    Thank you for the video. I ordered the Midnight Library. I’m in a job that gives me anxiety but can’t leave until I find another one. One of the reasons I want to leave is because the manager doesn’t share my values. It’s funny, I was thinking about that and then saw your video. In the past I would have whined and complained about the manager but now I learned the best thing to do is leave. I have no reason to fight an institution.

    It is absolutely true that companies will not hire you if you are overqualified. Their goal is to fill the position with the person who is bright enough to do the job and will be content to stay in the job for an extended period. If the person they hire is overqualified then it will be a poor fit and the company will need to fill the position again in short order. You either need to work for free as an intern or get a trainee position that is intended to move you up through the ranks fairly quickly. I'd love to know what industry you wanted to break into! It is also true that bringing knowledge and skills from a different sector and applying your skills to a new sector can bring synergy to the new job with exciting results. Best of luck with your new ventures.🎉

    Thanks for this video Emma I needed it. I quit my job in September after 12 years in my company as nursery nurse. Childcare in the UK at the moment is in a bit of a mess I think and I was so burnt out. After 6 months of me just being at home and my husband supporting us both I just couldn’t do it anymore I thought I’m only 36 I want a job. I applied for some other nurseries and I really messed up the last interview I went for at the setting I really wanted but they took a chance on me. I swore I’d never go back into childcare but it’s all I’ve known from leaving school and I know I’m good even tho it’s very low paid for how stressful it can be sometimes. This new place seems like I would be happy and so I thought I’m going to just give it my all as I have nothing to lose anymore ❤️

    Absolutely! I did exactly the same thing in medicine- went back again as it was all I’d known- so totally get it. And you never know it might work out- but if it doesn’t at least you’ll know you’ve tried. It’s win win xx

    Great video! When you mentioned at the end that the coach asked your husband what did he want to do when he was a child...I've been fortunate enough to do as an adult a lot of what I wanted to do as a child. It didn't really hit me, though, until many, many years later that I'd done many of those things. As a kid it was all play and no one took it seriously. I still have to remind myself to follow my intuition, because it is so easy to fall back on other people's opinions.

    WOW! That shows how much personal strength you have. So few people can do that. I have nothing but respect and admiration for that. But yes- as you say- it's always a challenge- but it speaks volumes that you have the insight and resilience to follow through xx

    Thank you! Many of the things I did were in a "volunteer" capacity so I fulfilled some dreams that way because I couldn't have a career in all of them. :)As for following the intuition, I am definitely not perfect at it by any means. I'm going to look up the values things you listed. I do need to work more on trying to figure that out. @@Emmaanders

    A great video, thank you! Amazing insight and helpful. I am struggling in my current position as admin support for a large healthcare organization. I need to walk away for myself and my mental health. And find what I can contribute elsewhere. Healthcare fatigue is everywhere. We enter the profession to help, and the barriers to accomplish help are real. I don’t even know how to articulate a better response.

  • @Emmaanders

    @Emmaanders

    I think you articulated that perfectly. It's awful times in healthcare- but we only get one life and you've got to make sure you're really living it. It's so sad that you're in that situation but just know where you're at is one small place in a much bigger picture and there are plenty of other places you can go. Once you're out you'll wonder why you stayed so long... but that doesn't mean getting out is easy xx

    wow. Just wow. Thank you SO MUCH, I really needed to hear this (I watched it through 3 times XD) I'm going through a confusing time as well, I feel like I don't have the tools as my disposable to go after my dream of opening up my own pilates studio but I think about it every day (and night). Can you share how exactly you got started on your own business, down to the nitty gritty steps that you took in the very begining? Also thank you so much for the book recommendation, I've placed the order and can't wait to read it. Have an amazing day!

    I wanted to be an artist when I was young. But because I was “smart” and supposed to go to college on a scholarship, I focused on academics. I am in my 70s now and finally making art, just for myself. I felt I could not die with the regret of not having given it a try. My friends and family are very supportive now as they see how happy I am. And on the plus side, they do also enjoy the art I am making.
