Conservatives suffer huge losses in local elections
By any measure it's been a grim day for the Conservatives - they lost the by-election for an MP in Blackpool South thanks to a massive swing to Labour, they're on track to lose around half of the local election council seats they contested and their projected national vote share is down to a dismal 25%.
With so many losses, Rishi Sunak has described the night as 'disappointing'. But he’s sure voters will stick with the Tories come the general election.

@@AKMilli-sn4nx I would believe you if I had ever seen such anger among the Muslim community and British supporters of Palestine over the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of civilians in Syria and Yemen. Or the years of brutal oppression of eight million Muslims and Arabs by ISIS. Or the nearly 70 thousand political prisoners in Egypt alone. Or the fate of the Kurds denied a their own state by the Turks and the Arabs. Or the fate of a million Muslim refugees being expelled from Pakistan. Or if anyone cared about the tens of thousands of Palestinians expelled by Kuwait. Or if they asked why Palestinians are still in 'refugee camps' two generations after their grandparents and great parents fled Palestine. Of if they had demanded Gaza and the West Bank be given independence when they were part of Egypt and Jordan. But in fact you hear next to nothing about any of these. Because the perpetrators of the crimes are other Muslims and/or Arabs and there is a golden rule that nobody criticises the Ummah. They are absolutely passionate about Palestine because the enemies are Jews. Little Syrian kids were murdered by other Syrians so nobody cared. To be clear, I am not saying it is wrong to care about Palestinian children being murdered in Gaza. I am saying I don't believe your motives for claiming to care. Nah. When you start looking at the Turnout percentage, which no-one wants to talk about, Nobody won this election. For instance, in my Provincial Kent district, the Turnout was 37%. Thirty-Seven-Percent. And when you start Googling 'Turnout Percentage' it becomes REALLY obvious that this election was f**king DIRE. Sheffield: 32.7% Preston City: 25.8% NE Lincolnshire: 22.02% London: 40.5% Rushmoor Borough: 33.7% S Tyneside: 32.6% Nuneaton & Bedworth: 27.5% Cannock Chase District: 24.82% East Staffordshire Borough: 17.52% Lichfield District: 20.14% Newcastle Under Lyme Borough: 19.75% Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Locals tend to be lower turnout anyhow. If more people are staying at home not bothering to vote, maybe ask why. Could it be postal votes? Could it be that a few were turned away because of new voter ID rules ? Or could it be because of the political climate and divisiveness of the country?
