My mom and dad married without a diamond ring just wedding bands because they don’t like gem stones. Also my mom hates dresses, she married in a gold silk blouse and a pair of wide leg trousers. None of their parents said shit and that was in the 80s Asia. I can’t believe the conservativeness going on here.

@@Duck-cb8rk thank you! They are both artists and mom is also a fashion designer, so she made her own blouse and wore a pair of flats. I, while enjoy being single (never 'want' to get married, but if it happens it happens), don't understand diamond rings, huge reception parties and all of that. Just find someone you love and begin a journey together is more than a bless.

If I remember correctly, the white dress wasn’t really a thing until the Victorian era, and even then mostly for rich/ noble born people since white was an expensive fabric to make and keep white. I don’t think the whole dress and diamond rings started to be a thing for somewhat ordinary people until the 1920s and 1930s when catalogs started portraying them as the ONLY way to get married. The modern symbology of a wedding is only around 100 years old and comes solely from a marketing gimmick

The daughter I gave birth to just came out to me, at 13, as non binary. As their mom, I just want them to exist happy, loved, supported and empowered. It they never wear a dress ever again, who cares? If they marry someone, someday, all that matters is they're loved and cared for. I'm so glad you're showing queer brides. Representation matters. in Italy white dresses for marriage are quite a "modern" thing, common people started to wear fancy white dresses only after WWII, before that time only rich people could afford such a dress so common people used to wear dresses that could have been adapted and reused and, most of the times, dresses weren't white but brown or black . I even have a photo of my great grandmother wearing a brown dress at her wedding in 1930

Not really, she loves her daughter, it’s just she planned everything for her and nothing went her way, it’s pretty sad. In the end they both love each other no matter what and I think the mom just needs to make some adjustments and let it fully sink in.

That is precisely how I interpreted the mom, as well. You can tell that, even after two years of her daughter being with another woman, she's still extremely uncomfortable. i love how lori and her crew always support the bride. its so sad when family sometimes cant hold their tounge... i mean its her choice after all. im glad that she felt confident in telling the world how much she loves her partner!

I don’t think her tattoos worked well with the white dresses but they really looked better with the black versions. It just felt like it was in the same ball park with her personality and her appearance.

@@chastiana I disagree, I think mom is way too controlling. She isn't the type to say she disapproves, but there's subtle signs that she does. She is really uncomfortable and it feels like she is trying grasp control of her daughter in any way she can i.e the dress.

Ok but can we talk about how sweet and a gentleman her brother is? He’s so accepting of his sisters choices, and he’s soo easy on the eyes. What a sweetheart.

HerHollyness my father once got really sad cause the radio talked about how difficult lgbt ppl in Japan have it. He got sad and started talking about how he could not understand that parents would do that to their kids. He talked about how those kids deserve just as much love and suport. He talked about more but the thing is , is that my father is quite a stoic guy. My parents are really open and always say that they wouldn’t mind if we where gay. They always say: boyfriend, or girlfriend instead of just future boyfriend. Even though I’m not gay and neither is my brother. I’m happy that my parents love so much.

okay why so many hate comments to the mom ;-; i feel like she spent all that time raising her daughter that she had an idea of her life, when it didn't go as planned she wanted it to at least go her way a little... i feel like with these things you really can't say the mom doesn't have a say because its not her wedding, she does. When you have a daughter you have an idea for whats best for them and imagine carrying a baby, planning and dreaming for years to find out that not even a single thing goes as planned, its honestly kind of sad...

I wish Mom would shut up, esp since she's not paying for the dress. If Melody is paying for it, she should get whatever dress she wants, period! It's not Mom's wedding, she shouldn't be trying to live vicariously through her daughter on her wedding.

Moms have a vision too and if you seriously don’t respect your moms opinion nor do you want your mom to be honest and give it. Then you must not have a good relationship with your mom. @@Whydtheyaddusernames There is such a big difference between forcing your beliefs on someone, and simply giving someone a motherly and helpful opinion. This woman was hell bent on getting her way and her way only. That doesnt sound like an opinion, that sounds like forcing something. You can already tell she wasn't happy with the marriage to begin with so the dress is one way to let out all of her "opinions". This entire attitude she seems to have towards this wedding actually isnt about the dress, its about the marriage. So if its the marriage she has a problem with, then mother or not her opinion is completely irrelevant. If someone thinks they have the right to impose on someone elses relationship no matter who they are and what their intentions were, thats officially crossing the line.

The mom is definitely trying. She didn’t grow up in an accepting era. We can’t judge her because we don’t know what our views would’ve been even a decade before we were born. She’s trying and is becoming more open minded. She’s able to grow as a person and that’s what matters

Yes! I think the mom is wonderful. You cant expect someone to immediately change their lifelong cultural views. She is very obviously trying to adjust & that is something that we all take time to do when things are different from our conventional lifestyle. The bride is completely untraditional and that's probably hard to swallow for such a traditional parent. That being said the mom is understanding that it's not about her and it's about her daughters happiness. It may take a bit of time but she will come around full circle one day.

The mother is trying really hard not to be homophobic because she knows it's wrong, so even though it's a bit cringy, I appreciate the effort

If they do go the route of a sperm donor, they CAN know the identity of the man who gave them the sperm if they want and in that case, if ever the kid wanted to know who the man was that never planned on being a father to this kid, the kid can know. People donate A LOT of sperm because it's easy money.

I like how at the end, mom lets up a bit when she realizes how happy her daughter is.

You can very much tell that the mom is NOT okay with her gay daughter and is very uncomfortable. And you can see that every time the daughter is fighting for her black dress that she’s got pain behind her voice and in her eyes cause her mom wants her to be ‘normal’ (not gay)
