Conquering the Backway to Crown King
A few months back we decided to give the Backway to Crown King another try. After a winter storm dumped a bunch of rain and some snow, it certainly made for an adventurous day. But we had an absolute blast carefully working our way along this fantastic trail through the Bradshaw Mountains!

Good to see you back!👏 WOW you literally were UP a creek! Snow, ice, mud as well. Very brave!
The last time from Prescott to Crown King was 1992. What a trip.. glad to be along with you for the ride.
I enjoy watching your videos. I have a 98 5.9 limited with a 7-inch long arm lift, a 96 limited on a 4.5 inch lift, a 94 laredo with 2 inches of lift. Me, my wife and son love overlanding and trail riding. Hopefully, we'll be able to come out west and explore the places you have shown us on your channel.
The backway is as rough now as it has ever been. Ambitious adventure in those conditions. Well done!! Love dirt. Thanks
Amazing footage, this is your hardest trail yet. As a zj owner, I'm so proud that your rig made it through this heavily rock climbing trail.
Oh my. This drive made my poor heart pitter patter right out of my chest just watching. I have a friend that would have loved this!
I've been to CK several times from Prescott on the forest roads but haven't gone the back way. Excellent video. Thank you...
And you came back with no flats! But as they say, "tomorrow's another day!"
Welcome back! Had a hoot of a time on 1-20-23 going through with 3 TJ's. Big storm the night before laid down some heavy snow. Passing the mine site in the creek was a blast with the water running. Saw no one else till we hit the top outside of Crown King. Boy, that was fun.
Good video. I've done that trail many times over the last 50 years. Different conditions every time, always a good time.
awesome.....wish i could do a trip like this!
Another excellent video. Did not know Fort Misery was on that trail. That would have been a nice spot to hear about the history of the fort. Thanks for sharing.
That’s amazing! Way too push through!
Excellent. I was told it was too diffucult for my similarly equipped 4Runner a few months ago. Lets see how this goes...
Another great video, as usual!! What a great Team to travel with!!
Awesome, thank you for sharing. The XJ dod amazing.
Great video. Always love your stuff it was great to see the zj push up this difficult traill. I have a 95 zj but with the 6 cylinder. I have installed a set of detroit tru track helical limited slips in it and it has transformed the performance completely. The helical gear system is the same torsen set up as the military humvees. Limited slip without clutches but if you lift a tire and it slips just ride the brake a touch and it locks up solid. Best investment I've ever made.
Good drive , I didn’t film but did Montana loop this year about same time and hit snow and ice , few spots made ya scared as side by side would slide with ice , wish I would of filmed 😐
nice video
Well done!!! We always enjoy watching your videos. we live in the Tucson area and try to explore as much as we can. Have you considered lockers for the front and rear?
The few times I've done this trail, remember the "bypasses" being the cheat/easy ways. Been years though. Have also heard this trail now is about a 4?
Ever though of installing lockers to help with the traction?
Way to push through. get lockers
