The cities are less impressive than some others in America, but we’ve still got the Mall of America, the Minneapolis Orchestra, Como zoo, and I really loved the Cathedral of Saint Paul and Saint Mary’s Basilica. Otherwise you can visit Lake Superior or see the source of the Mississippi River. I also really enjoyed visiting Taylors Falls and Eagle Mountain but it can get pretty cold up north, so sometimes it’s best to visit in spring or fall.

    Coming from a travel agent, it makes me cringe to hear you panic applying for the esta last minute. But also laugh. Love you guys! Also, you don't need to show it because it gets electronically attached to your passport number, so when they run your passport at immigration and check-in, it comes up and says that yes, you do have an approved one. Which is why you need to re-apply if your passport expires before your esta does. Same for the Canadian eta visa.

    The price of the US passport is ~twice as much as the price of a UK passport. In addition, until recently, travel to Mexico and Canada only required an ID such as a Driver's License.

  • @justinbell7309
    @justinbell73092 жыл бұрын

    In the US you can get an "enhanced" drivers license for a little bit extra, but way cheaper than a passport. This license acts as a passport to select countries that neighbor the US, giving access to an area of the planet that stretches from above the Arctic Circle to below the Tropic of Cancer, encompassing over 21.88 million square kilometers, which is 5x the size of the whole EU. Pre-9/11, you could access most of those countries without a passport. That's why Americans don't have them.

    There are visas you can get online within minutes?? I'm preparing to study abroad for a semester in Spain soon (from the US) and the visa process has been brutal. Luckily I already had a passport so I didn't need to worry about that on top of everything else, but I have to drive 8 hours away to the consulate in order to physically give them the necessary paperwork, and THEN I have to wait for them to send me back my passport with the visa which will take weeks.

    most visa applications are like that. the ESTA techinically isn't a visa which is why it doesn't take that long to get. i'm from the us and when i was applying to get my visa to study in the uk i had to go through a similar process (although thankfully i lived near a big city and didn't need to drive 8 hours).

  • @HarJBeRw

    @HarJBeRw

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's not really a visa, people call it that because it functionally is the same. European tourist entry to the US is technically visa-free, you just need the esta, which is essentially just an electronic security questionnaire that is valid for two years and which usually gets accepted immediately unless some of your answers to the questions require further investigation. Pro-tip: when they ask you if you were a nazi operating in germany between 1932-1945, answer "No". Yes they will ask you even after you mention the fact you were born in the 1990s

  • @catmarques2880

    @catmarques2880

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@HarJBeRw also, if I'm not mistaken, the ESTA is only for going for a max of 3 months, but as many times as you want for the 2 years that it is valid. To work and study you need a proper visa. And yes, they'll ask you that, and if you intend to prostitute yourself while in the US (among other weird questions...). A few years ago they started asking for your social media details but that's optional (which was weeeeirrrd!). Not sure if that's still asked.

    A year or so before the lockdowns I visited the US and had to get through customs in New York to get a connecting flight. there was 4 different lines, one for US citizens where they almost walked through, people who had ESTA's for more than one time (my line as second time getting an ESTA), first time ESTA then none so really those actually immigrating . That last line looked like HELL compared to the others (mine took 20 minutes) wouldn't wish that one someone I hate. Though thanks to current times, doubt I'll experience that for at least 3 years.

With a total of 193 potential visa-free destinations, Japanese passports are ranked the highest. Just one point behind is Singapore, with Germany and South Korea tied at third place.

    I think the ESTA is in the system. When you do the interview at the immigration they don't ask for it, but they challenge some answers you gave, like where are you staying and the purpose of the visit (or at leats that's what happened to me). Regarding some countries not having too many people with passport, in Portugal for e.g. we have ID cards. Unless you're visiting a country outside of the EU, you don't need a passport, just the ID card. And a passport costs around 60-100 euros to get (every 5 years). So most people I know don't have one, and only get one if (and when) travelling outside of the EU (or nowadays, to visit the UK).

    When travelling from Italy to Japan, I had to stop off in America. I bought the wife a VISA and it was approved before I left and when I showed up in Chicago, they cancelled it for COVID. They charged me $889 for a new VISA on the spot.

    Every single country that needs a visa to enter the US should absolutely request the same from them, it's only fair.

  • @silasriver109

    It's not really a case of "fair", though. It's a case of "how likely are you to overstay your visa, attempt to work illegally and not go back to your country". I'm English, so I would be unlikely to stay in any of the inferior countries that offer good tourism but a lower quality of life. Conversely, if I was from a developing country and went to a developed one, I'd be much more likely to attempt to stay, overstay my visa and work illegally. It's not a simple tit for tat scenario.

  • 2 жыл бұрын

    @@silasriver109 There's a concept in diplomacy called "reciprocity" which allows countries to treat others as they are treated, even if they have theoretically no reason to do so. It's used as a check and balance mechanism so that some countries won't do whatever they want regarding others without consequences. =)

    Oh, poor poor Connor, he needs online-instant-visa to get to the USA but American doesn't need anything. This is so pathetic complaint! Just you know you can travel to many countries where you don't need a visa like Ukraine, Kazakhstan and some other ex-soviet countries or South-East Asia countries, but citizens of all these countries have to go through the complicated visa process. You are extremely privileged guys and still whinny about shitty things. It's always amazed me how Western privileged people complain about the visa process to Russia even though it's quite simple compared to UK visa proccess.

Yep, I know which particular one he was referring to 🥲 Well I know there are less powerful passports out there (than Thai) but considering he holds 2, he must have mainly compared these 2
