Record companies and individuals may submit recordings to be nominated. Nominations are made online and a physical copy of the work is sent to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Once a work is entered, reviewing sessions are held, by more than 150 experts from the recording industry, to determine whether the work is eligible and entered in the correct category for official nomination. The resulting list is circulated to all NARAS members, each of whom may vote to nominate in the general field (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine out of 30 other fields on their ballots. The five recordings that earn the most votes in each category become the nominees, while in some categories (craft and specialized categories) there are review committees in place that determine the final 5 nominees. There may be more than five nominees if there is a tie in the nomination process. Whereas members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are generally invited to screenings or are sent DVDs of movies nominated for Oscars, NARAS members do not receive nominated recordings. After nominees have been determined, final voting ballots are sent to Recording Academy members, who may then vote in the general fields and in no more than eight of the 30 fields. NARAS members are encouraged, but not required, to vote only in their fields of expertise. Ballots are tabulated secretly by the major independent accounting firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.[14] Following the tabulation of votes the winners are announced at the Grammy Awards. The recording with the most votes in a category wins and it is possible to have a tie. Winners are presented with the Grammy Award and those who do not win are given a medal for their nomination. In both voting rounds, Academy members are required to vote based upon quality alone, and not to be influenced by sales, chart performance, personal friendships, regional preferences or company loyalty. The acceptance of gifts is prohibited. Members are urged to vote in a manner that preserves the integrity of the academy. The eligibility period for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards was October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014.

@Oscar Landrum I'm sorry, I feel horrible. I lost my 13 year old Cocker Spaniel suddenly without warning yesterday to a massive seizure or, the vet is pretty sure that was what it was. He was my life, it revolved around him. For 13 years he followed me every step I took. My late husband often said there had to be a cord attached! If you're a praying man, keep me in your prayers. I need peace and comfort that only God can provide!

Totally agree with you about that , this is brilliant.
When I was a little boy my mom and I used to listen to Connie once a day, every day, all day long. Memories.
I thought that was the prettiest song that I had ever heard back in 1964 and that voice put so much feeling to the song.Great singer and great song.Connie Smith is a wonderful person .Country music was truly blessed when Connie appeared.

My aunt would sing this in the 60s right on tune perfectly. My father could mimic Elvis Merle Johnny cash you would think it was the actual singer. I know a singer instantly that’s good or bad, but the problem is I did inherit a singing voice I cannot sing for the life of me. My sister could sing I was left out.
I love country music and I happen to come across this. Beautiful voice, beautiful woman, beautiful lyrics.

This is the only song I know really by Connie Smith My parents listen to this wonderful artist. I definitely enjoy this song. I'm in my 40's. A true country from the tender age of 10 years old. Dad is the one who got me hooked on country music ❤❤ Love it.

My aunt was able to mirror image this song in the 60s. They played this song continually in the 60s. I’m 60 so I know country further back. On Pandora I play 50s and 60s country like it’s still back then, new country sounds like rock music.

This Connie Smith as I saw & heard her for the first time in my life on TV. Best female singer I have ever heard. Others agreed. Released in August of 1964, and by November it was #1 on the Country music charts & stayed #1 for 8 weeks. No female singer since has ever had a song at #1 that long on the County Music Charts & this was the very first song she ever recorded. Fantastic post. Thanks so much.

I'm obsessed with this song. The lyrics are mostly funny, but also a bit sad and angry. I love her belting and almost yodeling, but think it's a bit too fast to convey the ironic lyrics. Jones's version conveys the lyrics better but doesn't have the punch either. So glad I discovered Connie--I live in Boston where real country is virtually unknown so ppl don't know about Jones, Connie, etc but I'm learning!

If I remember correctly, Johnny Cash was asked who was the best female singer. He named two. One was the great Anita Carter, and the other was Connie Smith. I’ll agree with him on that!

You will be happy to know that Connie Smith is still a real charmer & still can sing this song on the Grand Ole Opry like you are hearing it on this video at her age of 75 years young. Few people would guess that Connie is one of the longest time members of the Grand Ole Opry for 53 years now. I din''t know all these years that her & my Mom are best friends until 2006, when Connie had to run down the street from the the Ryman Auditorium to catch my Mom on the day my LDS (Mormon) crew had finished remodeling the Ryman so you can hear a pin dropped on the stage equally as well in 90% of the Ryman, so it was the grand re-opening of the Ryman. I had met Connie when I was with my partner & best friend, Ernest Tubb, in the business of selling records. ET described Connie's singing voice as pure honey. But after meeting her with my Mom, she & Marty Stewart soon became my best friends in the country music industry. She is still extremely lovely physically, but has internal beauty that will never fade. I am part Sioux Indian and especially glad she married Marty (19 years younger than Connie) on the Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation and that marriage was good for Connie because it seemed to make her younger & more energetic with that fabulous personality of hers & got her back to cutting new records. Oh, and she normally wears dresses. Best wishes Milton.

Thanks for the info share, Mickey. I just turned 72 and have admired her for decades. My two favorites song are YOU CROSSED MY MIND A THOUSAND TIMES TODAY and I NEVER ONCE STOPPED LOVING YOU. Also love her duet with Nat Stuckey, WHISPERING HOPE! And of course many other songs like this one, but the ones listed above are first and foremost in my mind. Not many gals are in the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME, only 17, but so pleased that she is one of them. (Just found your reply on my smartphone. I can't keep up with all these videos so just check for comments as I revisit channels to watch videos. Thanks again. Incidentally, I love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Hymn CD's..."Crown Him With Many Crowns," "Fairest Lord Jesus," "As I Survey The Wondrous Cross," and other immortal selections.
