Winning the play in round actually hurts a rebuilding team with the loss of draft position. Nobody expects these teams to win it all, and if this marks the beginning of being better, losing the high draft position now hurts that much more.

To be fair, pushing hard in the playoffs as a non-contender gets your young players some playoff experience and shows that they're already headed in the right direction. Sliding in pick position might not be too bad if the core is improving

@@dbeast03 It's a fair point, and normally I'd agree with you. The biggest difference this year though, for both MTL and CHI is that they would have had top ten overall picks instead of 15-20th. They could have had the 1st overall pick. That can significantly speed up a rebuild, or in the case of the early 2000 PIT teams, load your team with a dominant roster that leads to multiple cups. The system was designed to lead to the best teams fading and being forced to rebuild over time. The worst thing for a franchise is to be forever mired in the middle where you don't get the generational talents that come with the overall top picks, but you are never really in contention either.

There’s not a doubt in my mind that we would of lost a 5 game series to the Red Wings as well playing this badly. We lost to the Sabres, Ducks, Kings, and Sharks all in a row before the break, and went 4-9-2 between the end of the regular season and playoffs. Absolutely terrible. Add one more loss to that for the exhibition game.

Let me take the time to remind you that the Hurricanes got sweeped by the Rangers this season. But, wait... Hurricanes won against the Rangers in playoffs. Season hockey isn't the same as playoffs hockey. The wings are trash, Montreal is a team who hasn't been performing well against bad teams lately. So if a team is super trash, it's basically a hard counter for the Canadiens. But I wouldn't be so sure if the results would be the same during Playoffs.

I was laughing with 6 minutes to go in the game when it was tied at 0. Why? Pittsburgh was listless, turning to puck over, sending Montreal on rush after rush. I could sense the win coming. It was at that moment I realized the Pens team that shows up when the pressure is on is still in 2018. They weren’t going to pull that magic out of their ass, not this time. They didn’t against the Isles last year and the fact they couldn’t in Game 3 should’ve been proof enough of their demise. Welcome to the dynasty dust bin Pittsburgh. Enjoy the company of the 80’s Oilers, 80’s Isles, 70’s Flyers, 2010’s Hawks and Kings, 50’s-80’s Habs, 90’s-00’s Wings and the Leafs pre-1969. You may be there awhile.

As a Habs fan I am happy we won, but honestly I would be happy just with the team showing effort and the young players showing promise of a better future. The win is just a cherry on top of a great series by a team that every analyst had them lose 3--0.

Maybe the Hawks pull some bullshit and make it past the round of 16 but I have serious doubts as a Hawks fan that they'll be able to take down a 1 seed. But there's always a chance, so we'll just have to wait and see.
