Confusion after MEP releases 'peace dove' from bag in European parliament
A member of the European parliament released a white dove in the parliamentary chamber on Wednesday, in what he claimed was a gesture of peace.

Miroslav Radačovský, an MEP from the Slovak Patriot party, made a short speech in what he said was his 'last intervention' in parliament. He wished Europe and the world peace, before releasing the bird from a bag around his waist. 'Let's let this dove unite all of us. Let this dove, a symbol of peace … let us realise that what we need most is really peace,' he said.
A French Green MEP said the gesture was a violation of parliamentary rules. 'What are you going to do now to get this animal back?' asked Caroline Roose. 'Where is animal welfare in this speaker's gesture? I find this absolutely unacceptable.'

No, he exactly said that she will fly home, you can hear it in video if you listen carefully. The reality is that this is exactly what trained pigeons do, they are released on whatever place and they are capable to return home, to training station.

@@davidwuhrer6704the EU directly issues monetary packages and develops EU-wide policies The UN is just for coordinating different countries, and occasionally send people with blue hats in war zones, where they have no authority except for that of the government in place. The EU is undoubtedly more political than the UN. Economy is a massive part of politics.

The fact the Dove flies and perfectly sits aligned next to the others just cracks me up.

Totally agree with you sir peace for all .....
The symbolism though... A naive gesture, virtue signaling gesture. The dove flies a few metres, parks on the leadership desk, flies around, while the EP tries to catch and contain it. Having said all that, peace is the most sacred thing to strive for. Never give up on peace.

you know, it would not even be very practical to have every deputy be present in every single debate… You cannot have expertise in every field, and besides sitting in parliament and raising their hand in favor or against a certain matter, they have other tasks to do, e.g. preparing speeches or forming their opinion on complex legal proposals.

Based on my own experience of trying to get a live bird out of a public building, I think peace would be achieved by watching the insane and stooge-like antics involved in trying to get the dove out of there. Kinda hard to be at war when you have guys in suits chasing a bird around a building with sunflower seeds and a primitive net fashioned from two mop handles and a towel (if you're curious, yes, I have seen this happen in real life and no, it did not work, the bird eventually left on her own when they realised she was staying because of the food and stopped putting seed down)
No one ever releases a giraffe, yet they are peaceful.
