Confucianism in Taiwan

Taiwan is home to an ethnic Chinese society where Confucianism has had a profound
influence. As a result, Taiwanese people place great store in interpersonal
relationships, ethics, education and family. These values have laid the foundations that
underlie the country’s stable society and economic development. This documentary
shows how Confucian culture has been transmitted down through the ages in Taiwan.
It also examines innovations in the Confucian value system, as well as the inherent
beauty of traditional Chinese characters.

What I like/admire, is how the foundational philosophy of Confucianism has been maintained but brought into the 21st century. Impressive.

Does anyone have a feeling that it's sort of weird to put the rubric of "Confucianism" to cover so many things such as the calligraphic art in Taiwan? I don't think there is any intimate relation between Confucianism and calligraphy. But if you want to build the linkage between Confucianism and calligraphy, I think it's the regular script/style of calligraphy that aspires for the stable sense of the character expression, rather than the running script/style shown in the almost end of clip. I like the content, but I suggest that the title is debatable.

This is a wonderful video that shows the beauty of Confucianism (Ruism) and how it has been a benefit to Taiwan. Take some notes.

I don't know if Taiwan is the MOST Confucian country on the planet, I think Korea would give it a run for its money. Also, Confucianism does not advocate universal love, it loves with distinction. The Mohist school said love without distinction. They are not the same. The Five Relationships defies the theory of Universal Love. You're not going to love someone's kid more than your own. Or if you do, you're a weirdo.

Too much aggressive advertising. Tone down the praises and music, and focus more on the academic side of things.

The Mohist and Confucian principles of universal love are similar, but have important distinctions. Mozi envisioned a society where people loved and treated one another equally, to the point that all class distinctions and even family ties were destroyed. Mohi says we should love total strangers just as much as we love our family members, and treat them just the same. Confucius believed that all human beings were worthy of love and respect, but understood that we will naturally feel more for our own family than we will for strangers. So even though we love all people in our society, we express that love through different levels of deference.

THANK YOU! I was like... no... Confucianism does not believe in love without distinction. The Mohists and the Confucians disagreed wildly on this.

This video is pure propaganda. Canada do have use of priority seats in buses and subways, they line up and do not push each other to get their way through and also stand on the right side of the escalator. I do not doubt that taiwanese people are generally friendly, respectuous and helpful, but problem is this video is showing taiwan as the unique and only one perfect country. The title also is to reconsider. Something like "what makes the taiwanese culture special" or "beautiful heritage of taiwan" would be more appropriate.

What about it? There are a million videos on KZread dedicated to Western religion and philosophy, you are perfectly free to go watch them instead. Don't get you knickers in a twist that there are other videos that talk about other belief systems.
