Thank you for this video. It was driving me nuts looking at the show vlan and not seeing some of the ports I was working with because I didn't know it only shows access ports.

Hey Rowell good videos but can you make a video on Layer 3 switch interVlan routing where you connect the switch to the ISP modem and all of the Vlans can access the internet without a router. intervlan routing on Layer 3 Switch

I don't see "encapsulation" in my CLI. My options are "allowed", "native". and "pruning". EDIT: Nevermind. Just a piece of advice, 3:19 you should have stated that your first method applied to ISL on older devices. You did not mention that. Newer switches don't support ISL... there is no need for an encapsulation command because only one encapsulation is supported.

Hello sir i just want to know how can i configure 2 isp connection in single managed switch? Means i m a cable operator and i have 2 isp line and i want to setup both line in same switch and want to mix both line in all ports so i can provide internet connection using router in customer home using any port from my switch.. 1 isp is using static ip and other is pppoe so i want to setup my singe switch with 2 isp so i can provide Internet connection using unmanaged switches connected to my managed switch in office.. At end point of customer i will use router and will set pppoe or static ip connection so customers can use Internet.. Sir help me in it with command so i can understand how to configure

if you have 3 switch, to set up the trunk, first set up the second switch or in the first or in the three

metalliciano By default the ports are usually trunks. In a real world scenario, I configure all the switch ports first and then cable them last.

i don't get it, why do we need to issue the encapsulationdot1q? because i have vlan 10 & 20 on SW1, and vlan 10 & 20 on SW2, i can just configure 1 port on each switch in trunk mode..and i can still ping from vlan10 SW1 to vlan10 SW2 right?? so why the encapsulationdot1q?? can someone explain? and i've also seen some people they didn't even configure the link between two switches, but can still ping, and their explanation is that, the packet can still go through because the link between two switches are in the access mode, as long as they're in access mode then packet can still go through (different vlan but same subnet) but it will drop the vlan tag..but if you configure the link as trunk mode then it will drop the packet, cause the moment the packet goes out from the trunk port on SW1 it will drop the vlan tag, and when it reaches SW2 it will tag with vlan20 but will drop the tag again once it reaches the port that connected to the end device...is this true???

This is an older switch. You don't have to use encapsulation dot1q with newer switches.

You can configure it as a trunk port without a cable connected.

I used packet tracer to replicate exactly what you did on SW2 for Fa0/24 and after issuing the sh vlan br command I am still able to see f0/24 as part of the access vlan. When i configured f0/24 by going to global config, int f0/24, switchport mode trunk, switchport non, i didnt recieve any errors.

+Stephen Konig Update: Ok so just for my beginner level self, I figured out why it was not working. The devices must be connected to each other for the results to be shown the way you are getting them. *Feels silly* but lesson learned.
