This concrete tornado shelter was a must for this family that experienced an F5 tornado that ripped through Xenia, Ohio in 1974. This shelter was designed for easy and fast access in an emergency situation. and was constructed during the process of building their new home. tis home is within an area that sees on average a tornado every 10-15 years.

Thank you for posting this video. I was looking for a storm / mud room and found your video very informative. Loved the practice run as well - it helps to see how fast one can get into a shelter when centrally located such as this one is. And to the home owners, beautiful layout!
I'm 71 and was raised next to a family that had a bomb shelter built under ground with a submarine door to access it. I chuckle now at the attitude the people had back then that we could survive a nuclear war. If I lived in that tornado area I would have safe room built.
