we are in northern QLD Australia so i daytime temperature is always 98 in summer months. Bullets do not work as the water bypasses it. Paper bags prevent the water from bypassing. We have over 20 Seperate placing booms Up in High rise as we speak and we ONLY use water washout. We never lose the line. This is the preffered method by the Manuafacturer. This video is here to educate the un-educated. I have a pile of Blowout stands you can have. We used those in the 80's and 90's.

Ah okay that makes sense. I've never ran a placing boom before. longest amount of line ive pumped through was over 2000 feet of 5 inch for a tunnel pour, which we blew a go-devil through to a catch and back to the pump. which seemed to work pretty good. I guess that's why Meales is the leader over there! You guys looking for operators? lol

paper bags must be used. Try rolling up empty cement/flour etc bags and insert into another bag and keep rolling until its a nice fit. depending on the bags used 3to4 per plug and it shouldn't be so tight that you cant insert it in to the 4ft pipe. (We purchase new empty cement bags). we put 3 x bag plugs in the charge pipe and the followed by a Go-devil. The go devil gets returned back down the line with air. We Use this method to clear well over a Mile of line. We have never had separation.

Thanks for the good info.. I tried this with 2 washingpluggs instead of paper bags. Got huge seperation. Now we went back to blowing back with air. Its scary to try it again since we want to be sure we stay out of trouble. How tight do you fit these paper bags? 1 sidenote: If you blow back into the mixer you can still use ALL the mud if you use crane and bucket.. But still I like this method. It is indeed safer. Thanks for explaining.

could you put a go-devil and pump water behind it, then retrieve the go-devil and blow it back down to the pump ??

Oh meales .. 3 flour bag bullet & rubber pig in charge pipe .. 1 x sponge to bring water back ... I know because im a original specialized boy ... before you bought them out ..

No the moment the Go devil gets to a bend it allows water to bleed past. Though a Go devil could be used after the Paper Plugs. the last stage of concrete and water is wasted in to a bin on the top deck and nobody wants to go fishing for a Go devil in the bin.

@sibalogh Not true. A typical high rise has air connected at the boom and the entire line is then pushed back to ground level in to a waste bin or Agitator bowl. this is then dumped. this is normally about 3-5 cubic metres. A typical water wash out does not see 1.5m3 wasted. maybe only 0.3 to 0.5m3. This job has extra as they are using coloured concrete. It is not possible to use air to push concrete up the building. its not about water recycling, its about waste concrete and injuries/incidents

It all seems very well but still there's no utilisation of the 1.5m3 of concrete in the waste-bin though, is there? That's a more valuable amount of concrete to be wasted than the water to be reused to flush the pump with.

Check the Title of the Video it says "High Rise". You cannot suck back that ammount of concrete. We suck back with Mobile pumps just like you might do.

lol....if they have never done a standpipe that long....it would be hard to guestimate how much mud it takes just to fill the vertical.... I have done these that held OVER a full 9 yd load and then took a bit of the next truck before they saw aggregate on top. The BIG bummer is the load of grout that MUST be placed somewhere. When its this much, they engineers usually go for a "grout seal" around column bases and certain beam pockets. Got to be GOOD though...once its all gone, its GONE !

Good theory on paper. What happens when it's 98 degrees outside and you are pumping hot 10,000 in columns and waiting to wash out the pump, try and get all those damn clamps clamped, etc.? We blow it in a mixer truck with the bowout tree come-alonged down tight. Easy. If they need it up top, bucket it with the tower crane. You would rock pack like a bitch trying to push concrete here with paper bags! Try using a bullet. Harder for water to get around.

It's easier to retract two washing balls, and then use water to clean out the hopper. This procedure looks like a complete waste of time.
