Located in a densely populated area in South Bandung, YT House is a residence that highlights the owner's desire to maintain privacy. Designed by Pranala Associates, this house is located in the corner of a residential complex, utilizing trees to maintain the privacy of its residents so that all that is visible from the outside is the fence and trees. From inside, the view outside is directly focused on the trees, not facing the road in front.
Design and Layout
Pranala Associates followed a strict grid in designing this home, creating a seamless transition from outdoors to indoors. YT House, even though it is located in an area of Bandung where the temperature is relatively high, does not require air conditioning because of good air circulation from the large openings.
Ground floor
On the ground floor, there is a prayer room adjacent to the living room and dining area which can be opened or closed according to the owner's needs, providing more privacy. The floor is installed at the same level to facilitate movement because the homeowner often holds events at his house. Pranala Associates also experimented with the sequence on the ceiling to give the impression of a wider space and provide large openings to allow enough light to enter the room.
Interior Design Elements
Several details in this house are inspired by kikkou, a traditional Japanese pattern depicting a turtle shell symbolizing longevity. This can be seen in the ceiling in the living room which is decorated with synthetic rattan woven and wooden screens in the bedroom. To increase residents' privacy, wooden screens were installed on the bedroom windows on the second floor, allowing sunlight to enter through the gaps. This bedroom window also faces a roof garden planted with reeds. Residents can also see the green leaves of the trees planted in the inner courtyard on the ground floor.
Sitting room
The living room is designed with a focus on open spaces and fluidity that facilitate movement and interaction. Large openings and strategically placed windows allow natural light to flood into the space, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. At night, soft lighting highlights the architectural details, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for gathering and relaxing.
Bedroom
The bedrooms are designed for comfort and privacy, with large windows overlooking the roof garden and inner courtyard. Wooden screens on the windows ensure privacy while allowing daylight to filter in, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere. A visual connection to the outdoors is maintained, providing a peaceful and calming environment.
Stairs to Second Floor
The staircase leading to the second floor is an important architectural element, combining functionality and beauty. Made from high-quality materials such as polished wood, this staircase not only functions as a connection between floors, but also as an attractive design element.
Conclusion
YT House is a harmonious blend of privacy, natural light and sustainability, enriched with cultural elements that enhance the living experience. The design of this house reflects a commitment to comfort and aesthetics, creating a calm and comfortable residence in the midst of a busy residential area. With intelligent use of natural elements and design that pays attention to detail, YT House offers a residence that is both functional and beautiful, according to the needs and desires of the owner.
