Concerts in the 90s & 2000s

Ойын-сауық

With so many IRl experiences moving to digital formats now, concerts are one of the few events that still generally rely on an in person audience - but that doesn't mean that the concert-going experience hasn't changed. In this episode, Jenna talks about how the process of securing concert tickets before online shopping was widespread, some of her favorite concert experiences, and counts down the top 5 concerts she wishes she attended back in the day.

It's pretty insane how the entertainment industry and the concerts have changed. In 2000s to early 2010s, it was more immersive, but now it feels almost mechanical. A recent concert I went to, it just felt so out of place whereas in earlier times it felt so lively and different.

My first concert was Hanson. And I still bring up to my mom that we never went to see the Spice Girls! I too hate the phones in the air the whole time at concerts. I wish people would enjoy the moment. That magic of everyone sharing an experience is gone.

1:25 Leaving the house is such a good goal. I have chronic pain and am couch / bed ridden for the most of the time. Getting outside of the house, even if it’s just going and sitting under the deck in the backyard is so good for my mental health. 11:56 I remember hearing about Hanson finally coming to my city in Australia in 2000 from my Dad. He either heard it on the radio or read it in the newspaper. And then because he worked in the CBD he would line up for tickets for us. Bless him. He even flew my sister and I down to Sydney in 2005 when they came back down here. He secretly enjoyed their music and still listens to them every now and then. Bless.

I don't even remember HOW we knew the concert dates back then. My first live show was NSYNC in 8th grade. We got tickets at Tower Records, I do recall that.

This brings back so many fun memories. I went to the TRL tour with Destiny’s Child and Nelly haha. My first concert was Boyz to Men and Brandy. Think I was in fourth or fifth grade.

I'm 1987 and I always wanted to make a show like this with my 1989 sister, about 5 years ago I was telling her to write down topics. Now years later we are sending each other all of the nostalgia people on Instagram. Some of you do it right, and some don't add anything new or get the eras wrong. So thank you for the entertainment and I'm looking forward to listening to these

My first concert was the Spice Girls (Geri was still in the band at the time.) The audience was crazy loud. Someone was clever enough to sneak in a dictaphone so I have a bootleg copy of my show that took me nearly 25 years to get! At least here in the UK, tickets were only available to official fan club members- there was no general sales. We got the order letter the year before! Only a handful of photos exist from the show. I loved how back then concerts were a surprise- the only photos were in newspapers and there was no set-list printed. Nowadays EVERYTHING from the artist getting their make-up done backstage is online, along with 1000000s of videos from previous shows. The element of surprise has long gone and that's kinda ruined concerts for me.

I saw Jessica Simpson and Chingy-pregamed a little too hard for both shows. Recovered fine after Jessica Simpson but Chingy was only a few years ago (I got free tickets when he came to Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee) thought I was going to be hospitalized the next day 🤣 those concerts in the 90’s and early 2000’s will always be epic!! Nothing compares to that today
