College Party Culture in the 2000s

Ойын-сауық

This week we're talking more about college life in the 2000s and exploring the culture of excess drinking and partying among college kids at that time. From college party movies like Van Wilder and Old School to activities like Beer Olympics or Tour de Franzia, partying was built into the college experience. I talk about the various ways my friends and I partied in college (sneaking vodka into the dorms, basement parties) and count down the top 5 most common drinks of choice among my friends back in the '00s.

New episode is always so welcome! Btw i showed your teen jobs episode to 7th graders for my English class (it was the topic they'd had). I think it was a big success, their English level wasn't much of an obstacle, so they understood the whole story you told. Thanks and love from Russia!

Our WI drinking culture really is the best 🙃 I have a 20 year old scar on my elbow from falling on the sidewalk during Halloween weekend in Madison. Aahh the good days 🍻

I went to Beloit, fancy WI private school and it was all about the theme party on campus. Underage drinking was out in the open on campus in the dorms.

This entire video was spot on. However, I went to school in Stillwater Oklahoma. Oklahoma State University is more of a rural previously A&M college. We definitely had the drinking culture while I was there. We have a similar “strip” of bars. Luckily we had a dance club that was 18 to enter 21 to drink. Half was a country dance hall with a huge dance floor and the other half was DJ hip hop music. We were there EVERY Thursday night. When we were 21 every night had some sort of ladies nite free or cheap beer at a different bar every night. House parties were epic! Loved all the drinking games. It was so fun and I wouldn’t change any moment of those memories. I have a list of most consumed beverages also. For years I couldn’t drink orange juice because I thought it was tainted with SKYY vodka. Thanks for reliving that for us all. Good times for sure!!😊

I remember Asher roth’s “I love college” came out right before I went to Missouri state and it was played at EVERY party I went to.

It’s so interesting hearing all this as someone from the UK where the drinking age is 18, so there was no risk or worry about drinking in the dorms (we call them halls). I also don’t drink at all so another reason why it’s interesting! I still went to parties but I too went to much more parties at school, by university I really wasn’t into partying much anymore, I was quite antisocial in my uni years haha. I remember the drinking games too! We had beer pong too, ring of fire, and the classic never have I ever

As one of the only youtubers I follow, I make it a point to pay close attention to your videos so I can actually enjoy them. But there was one thing you said that not only grabbed my attention but gave me flashbacks to a video by another youtuber I follow. You mentioned La Crosse, Wisconsin. It reminded me of a documentary video I watched about Ed Gein. Yeah, I know, not the best thing to remember when one is watching a video like this. My brain makes me remember weird things at weird times.

Also a lot of people used to think that there was a serial killer in La Crosse specifically, throwing college kids into the river. I remember a lot of theories about that flying around when I was younger

@@jennaabarclay I think every town is going to have their criminal (or alleged in most cases) folklore. As odd as it sounds, I actually really sympathized with Ed. Does his upbringing and mental break give him a pass for what he did? Absolutely not. But it explains a lot. Damn, I took a fun podcast/video and went in a disturbing direction with it. Hopefully this doesn't become the basis for a future one.

This one was a banger, and would loveeee an episode on small town WI summer festivals. I feel like every single town had one and they were usually named after a crop or fish ala Apple Fest or Bluegill Fest
