The phrase "ass in a sling" came form the canvas seats in military vehicles. The seats were metal frames with a canvas "sling between the tubes...They hurt

My age too. I'm a sort of cynical optimist. Yes, I believe the world's in a mess and people seem to be increasingly neurotic and yet life is so much better when you always look on the bright side of life, as I do now. And remember, almost everything is funny, including the sea of neuroses out there.
