As some of you may have heard from our recent episodes, we’re launching some new videos on MCMTV2 that are created by us and hosted by people who are experts in their field! The first new series is called ‘Go Fast Brett’ which is all about turbo things, blow off valves, general choo choo activities and aims to explain common turbo questions, boost issues plus showcase some of the awesome stuff that Brett has made during his time as a mechanical engineer. Some of you may recognise Brett from our early MCM videos. He’s an automotive mechanical engineer who has invented and developed all sorts of incredible turbo bits and pieces that are used in cars all over the world. He’s helped us out with numerous episodes over the years from our Blow Off Valve Mythbusted episode 7 years ago through to including making the custom supercharger pulley for the MCM Mini. We hope you enjoy the series!

Dude you just explained exactly what is occurring on my Forte5 1.6Turbo. Thank you so much, I’m pushing 18-23+ on a stock K04 and have serious surging under acceleration. I lowered it down to 16-21psi and upgraded my bov and wastegate solenoids with pierburgh solenoids. Completely fixed my issue. I owe you a beer

"Even though it sounds mad hectic in your VL..." LOL
"Mad hectic in your VL" I almost fucking died thanks mate.
Very professional explanation that anyone interested in cars will understand. Well done Brett and MCM
Brett I am currently studying my first year of engineering, looking to move into mechanical when I get further through my degree and what you do has sort of been an inspiration for me to keep pushing forward and do something I love. Keep up the great vids!!
Excellent explanation Brett, i think this series is gonna be good. Technical info like this is gold!
Brett is such a legend! Has helped me out numerous times with technical questions👍🏽 Hope you keep these coming!
Fantastic video, I love the depth with which the topic was explained, and I can't wait for more videos like this in the future!
I really dig the information here and think this is going to be a hit. Thank you MCM and thank you Brett! Keep it coming!
Best explanation I have ever heard for compressor surge. Please keep doing these videos!
mad episode! looking forward to the rest of the episodes. Good to learn and expand some knowledge
Awesome! I had no idea how the flutter sound was made before this video. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Seen this guy on here more than once. The enthusiasm and knowledge is great. GG.
Ooooh, more videos like this, guys! Love learning new stuff about cars!
good work Brett really informative and easy to follow, I like! look forward to seeing more
best explanation ever, keep up this new series ... we learn much about stuff, because of youre creative genius heads MCM RLZ
Top of the class me son....excellent clarity in your explanation without going over the top....wish I had known about it years ago....but ...never too late.
This is the best explanation of this I’ve seen... EVER! Well done guys.
Great video i hope we get to see alot more of go fast Brett always good to hear knowledge from a professional
Nice one guys! You just got a reference in a piece of project work for my degree! We're doing material selection for turbine wheels and this helped massively in my understanding of the potential failure modes due to extreme conditions. MAAAAAD
I love videos like this, I hope to see more of these on this channel!
Very informative information. Brett definitely knows his stuff!
Thanks! Great video can't wait to see more in this series!
Another brilliant reason to stay awake till 3am (uk) to watch another interesting video by mcm. Im only 15 but have a big dream to build and work on cars. Starting off with basic videos from this channel has upgraded my brain faster than a mustang can hit a crowd.
This video is really interesting watch, very informative. Please do more of these covering all sorts of mechanical topics.
Must admit, prefer these kind of videos more than the "engineering explained" videos. Not sure if it's the style of it, the music, or Brett isn't awkward.

Disagree. The math and physics in Engineering Explained very helpful in understanding the subject.

Yeah I have to disagree. The drawings helps a lot and explanation is so much better from Engineering Explained. Not saying this won't get better, but yeah. Also Engineering explained is not supported by a specific brand. Not saying Brett isn't knowledgable, but his part of a parts company, particularly blow off valves. A BoV seller telling you that you need a BoV, not really right to me.

No idea what you guys are on or whether you're also American. But his voice alone is enough to turn me off from watching him. Let alone the ridiculously indepth over complication of it all. It's like sitting in a Uni lecture
Didn't ever think about stalling when it comes to compressor wheels, that's super interesting to know, great video!
THANK YOU! As a mechanic. i have told sooooo many people not to flutter their system, because of the same reason you explained. they seem to think that because Mark Trueno in his R32 gtr "Flutter" video does it, it's ok. thank you very much. it's like talking to a brick wall.
Really well explained. Simple and interesting, awesome. Habe been looking for BOV explanations for days hahaha
someone finally explains it properly! thank you MCM
MOAR!!!!! This is really really helpful stuff, especially since I'm about to turbo my NA car!
Good job Bret, looking foward to more technical nerdery from you!
Yes this new series is awesome. Good job boys keep it up
Brett did a great job. keep these videos coming.
this is so informative, i never knew this. explained so well! cheers big ears
I love everything turbo related and although I 80% knew why it happened I always want to know moreand/or the technical reason fofr this and things like it. Love all your work guys!!! :D
Great vid, explains everything ive always wanted to know how an why this happens. Looking forward to the next 1
Brett is amazing, he has designed and produced some of the best aftermarket car parts around. He knows his shit not just from his book knowledge but also from his hands on knowledge. I have had the pleasure of speaking with him in person at his factory in Peakhurst, handed over my car (SG9 Foreester) to him so he could use it to produce a short shift kit and also test the fitment of underdrive pulleys so he could release them to the market.
Thanks again for yet another awesome video!
nice video, great info i've never heard before. keep up the good work
Fantastic first ep!
Look forward to more videos from this series.
Already looking forward to the new episode. This is a really nice addition to MCM. Remind me a little of Haltech's "Technically speaking" series.
This is a baller new show, guys!
It would be good if he explained that off throttle surge has been proven to have very little effect on the turbo in the real world, in terms of causing damage and reducing the life of the turbo most of the time.

Is it safe to block off a bov on a journal bearing turbo (2020 veloster n performance package) to be exact We have already done and but I seen someone say it’s not safe on journal bearing turbos so now I’m all worried
@jamesford3549
3 жыл бұрын
@@zaneelliott7538 it’s safe. Off throttle surge won’t really damage a turbo. Turning up the boost etc will do way more harm.
@gingerashly4240
3 жыл бұрын
@@zaneelliott7538 its safe, but the journal bearings will recieve more wear as they can't handle it as well as the ball bearings. but otherwise it shouldn't do much
Very good AND informative video on the subject!
Love it! I have a GFB diverted kit on my Audi solved A LOT of problems.
Very well explained. Thanks for the info!
Great video, very informative and to the point. I used to think turbo bark was the compressor wheel spinning backwards.

Pretty much this was the main thinking behind comp surge in early 2000 haha.
This is so good. Im just getting into cars and the see silly shit is nice most of the time but a bit of useful information by someone who actually knows what they are doing is excellent.
always wondered about this hearing rumors here and there that its bad and not being able to find any good advice about it well now i know thanks heaps guys keep up the great episodes and looking forward to this new series as well
Good to listen to some one that knows what he's talking about on you tube, excellent.
Great video! More of these would be awesome
i like this series helps makes things simpler to understand!
I like this. hope to see a lot more in the future.
Awesome video! I love the tech stuff on MCM.
Great segment.
Perfectly explained , Top job.
i wasnt too excited for this when you guys announced it because we already have engineering explained but this was pretty interesting
This is awesome so far! Great idea having actual experts share their knowledge for once. No offence Marty and Moog😂
love this series! more pleazz
I didn’t know you guys had a second channel. What???? I’ve been watching you for over 12years!! 😮
Awesome video. I feel like I've learnt something today.
Excellent. Been self tuning my 1.6l ecoboob and this answered the flutter I've been logging. 25lb of boost, bone stock, and still no negative corrections! Only positive! Admittedly 25F ambient. Damn flutter. Guess that means less boost, more timing. 😫
This is awesome. Keep it up!
i like this little short series
I like it. concise, intelligent. well done.
That was maaaad. Thanks Brett!
I dig it! Keep em coming
love the new concept.
That was technical..... AND AWESOME!!!!

Love the tech stuff. Give me more!
i really liked this series
I love it. Call it MCM school, it's a great idea guys!!
great idea lads very interesting
Very good.informational video
I'm so glad he covered the actual on-boost surge. It's always left out of these videos.
Very instructive. Bravo! :-)
Thanks alot for the info very helpful 👍
I love everything about this episode and the series idea.. I do wish there was examples of what a good and bad system sounds like, but I'm only being picky
awesome video
Right on man, good info
Nice new series in McMTv2 i hope this last 4 ever at we can joy your work and learn something too :) :) :)
I always wondered what was going on under hard acceleration in my Mk6 Golf R. Thanks Brett, wondering no more.
