I love those cute Christmas packages behind you! It would be cute on a composition book as a Christmas planner or Holiday journal!

I also became a huge fan of composition books about a year and a half ago when I saw one of Melanie’s videos. Not only are they perfect for journaling, but they seem to do a wonderful job for dumping all your creativity without the fear of destroying something precious. I have adopted composition books in my art classroom as well, mainly because they are way cheaper than all the fancy paper and fancy sketchbooks that seem to get wasted more than used properly. Below are a couple of links to composition books I found on Amazon that are absolutely perfect in every single way. The paper will take fountain pen without ghosting, and if you glue two pages together you can paint on the paper and not worry about anything else. The cover is thin enough to add your favorite scrapbook paper without making it too stiff. I like grid paper because it offers a ton of options. The second link is for a Japanese notebook that has a paper I have never seen before. I cannot describe it other than it is smooth like silk and takes fountain pens on both sides without the tiniest bit of ghosting. The third link is for a smaller size journal, which is also Japanese, and perfect for fountain pens. It is the current journal I use at the moment. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080R9C0O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012OTICE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LY37XW2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have ONLY ever used comp books for journaling, loved this video! The brand Roaring Springs makes unruled (completely blank pages) comp books, which i had to order in bulk on Amazon but are still I love that what i put in them is what makes them valuable, since they are so cheap!

Love Melanie's content, so happy to hear you bring her up! I started using composition notebooks for my junk journals years ago and still use them today. They are super easy. I do at times sew my own and use fancier papers but you just can't beat the price and the endless pages that a composition notebook brings! Thanks for sharing.

regarding ghostig, some people only use one side of the pages, others glue pages together with glue stick to be able to write on both pages or have 2 page spreads.

*Noodles Apache Sunset ink? *There's a composition notebook art journaling group. *I can't use comp notebooks for journaling because I'll only use fountain pens for journaling. And I'm too - um, "formatted"? - to journal on one side and do something different on the other. Just can't... Recycled and handmade paper doesn't work with fountain pens. It's not just the ghosting. The worst is the feathering ink - it drifts everywhere, like a river overflowing its banks, if that makes sense.

Composition notebooks aren't really a thing in the UK, like they are in the US. I mean, we do have "similar", but looking on Amazon, they (composition notebooks) aren't very cheap. Anyway, like you, I saw Melanie's video, and became all inspired to get some, and I love the paper in them. I use them for watercolours and doodling, and I love the way the paper gets all crinkly, and the sound it makes when turning the page. definitely a fan of cheap & cheerful :)

Very helpful video!! I’m so glad to know my composition notebook obsession is shared by others. 🤓📓 I’m a traditionalist though... I love the basic black & white marble design, because it’s so classic, so I don’t cover my notebooks with craft paper or buy other designs. Maybe just a few stickers. btw, “fromage” is pronounced Fro-MAHGE (soft G). It’s French. 😉

Michael Roger’s Decomposition note books are listed for $17.00 on Amazon. I love the covers and if they had great paper, I would consider them. But the 50 cent or less is my go to for Composition note books. Thank you for sharing so much great information it is very helpful.

I love comp books because they fit in my Webster's Pages comp planner holds them perfectly. Lihit Lab also has a cover that comp books fit in. My parents were artist so pens are a huge weakness for me so I am not limited to just fountain pens, use those more for calligraphy.

When you tear out a page find the corresponding page on the other side of the binding and remove that as well. Taking out the entire sheet (or folio) will help the binding stay intact

Sometimes, there's a smell due to the solvents used in paper processing, or because the books were stored somewhere moist or musty. I had a pack of moleskines that smelled like pee no matter how long I aired them for, and it was the solvent issue.
