Complex Fractions 1 Simplify (Some with Variables)
I cover ten examples. At a minimum- familiarity with simplifying fractions, multiplying fractions with variables, and combining like terms- is assumed. On the first problem, I show that a complex fraction is a way of indicating division by a fraction. With the remaining nine problems, I show how to find the least common denominator, and then how to use it to start simplifying the complex fraction.

These devices get me all the time.(:
Thank you Mr. B. Question: In the very last answer, why couldn’t 40x/-10x be simplified further to 4x/-x...? What rule am I misunderstanding here? Where can I learn that rule and related rules? Thank you sir!

Those terms are being added or subtracted, so you can't divide or reduce them. If the fraction was just 40x/-10x, it would simplify to -4. I appreciate your question, as I should have addressed that matter on 6, 8, and 10, but I did not. Best regards, Mr. B
