Yeah at some point I'd rather just by an original handheld for the games I want to play, a flashcart, and maybe mod it a bit myself (That's what I did with my GBA anyway) Significantly cheaper. Price to performance seems to be about right for this to me. It is certainly not the cheapest option with that impressive AMD APU, but its not badly priced either. So if its as well made as suggested, and feels like a real premium product... Being a 'real' computer you can do anything on is nice, it only seems expensive if all you really want is the old consoles that are not yet so old as to be stupidly overpriced... Though the lack of brightness control would kill it for me, I want nice dim screens at the bottom.

reconfigure your monitors in display settings to register as being side to side rather than top and bottom so you can move a window to the side and catch the other side on the other screen
I bought the OpenPandora handheld gaming device many years ago. It has a small keyboard on it. It's powerful enough to emulate systems all the way up to the PS1. It is still my favorite handheld, although my jailbroken/homebrewed 3DS is a close second.
I bet Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon would look fuckin sick on that behemoth
Wii u on this seems pretty sick. I play wii u on the steam deck which works pretty well, but ofc, one screen

I swear every video you release is like a movie premier. Fantastic work!
Top screen looks great, and I wish thats what the 2/3ds had! Wii U is also great, but im with you about the price. $800+ vs the $175 I paid for my JP 2DSXL (shipping included).

So many people hate on the Wii U. But I had one as a kid and loved it!
if you didn't know, if you press either alt + enter or ctrl + enter on either cemu window to fullscreen, but ofc borderless is nice to automate it
the music coming and going with the flickering of the screen was perfection hahahaha
This is awesome, but also one of those EXTREMELY NICHE USECASE kind of devices. Like, most of the stuff you could use this for can be done on a modded 3DS or another PC/Android handheld, but the Wii U emulation is something so unique to this that it works as a compelling selling point. I suppose if you're looking for a beefy handheld PC it also works, but as someone with a almost $4000 gaming PC that's not something I'm particularly interested in with any of these handhelds.
The KZread algorithm is so dumb. I haven't seen any Wulff Den videos on my feed for months and then just now I thought, "I wonder what Bob has been up to? Did he leave KZread?" so I search for your account and sure enough there's tonnes of new videos that YT hasn't been serving to me. It's such an overly reactive algorithm.
okay the real question is if it has a stylus

It's a micro switch D-Pad, which is perfect for many D-Pad type games, the trouble is, there are games perfect for micro-switches, like arcade platformers and shmups, beat'em'ups, platformers, and bad for others where you need to roll the D-Pad, but micro-switch offers precise and accurate feedback at least and is the best all-rounder D-Pad, once you get used to the Neo Geo micro-switch D-Pad for retro games, it's hard to go back to normal D-Pad's imo.

its always funny to me seeing people gripe about the price of these things, because while $800 is certainly not cheap (particularly if you are only looking for an emulation device) i think its crazy that a small company like aya neo can release a device like this at that low of a price point. if this was released a few years ago it would probably be like $2000. overall i think its kind of a dumb and niche product, but it excites me in a way that other pc handhelds outside of the steam deck havent. im hoping it does well enough that the concept doesnt just disappear because i think with a bit of work on the hardware design and software it could become a really cool product category

To fix the Chrome window issue: Plug in a mouse and keyboard, open a new Chrome window, move the window to the top screen (make sure this Chrome window is NOT in fullscreen mode), with the Chrome window up top hold the "ctrl" key on your keyboard and with that key held down left-click (so the normal click) on the mouse to close the window (so click on the "X" button top-right of the Chrome window with the mouse). This tells Windows that you would like Chrome (or any application) to open in that area of screen (unfortunately this does not always work).
Intro was so good! Masterpeice
I physically recoiled when he threw all the games on the 3ds
1:02 That was kinda scary
I really want one of these, so many cool use cases, even just for PC gaming, like you can have your trainers open on the second screen, or controller layouts and macros, it's just perfect for PC gamers who want a handheld, and the fact that you can play DS/3DS/Wii-U/Game&Watch/Dual-screen-arcade-games/Dual-screen-PC-games, or you can have your game hub or map highlighted on the 2nd screen, if you are playing music you can have your music app open on the second screen, game walkthrough both text and video form on the 2nd screen, and another really dope use, is I can use MIDI programs for making beats on it on the go, you could even just have the game cover art open of the game you are playing.
never was a fan of the handheld PC designs but this portable DVD looking device looks nice lol
The thing is that a second screen, cables, and mounts- to essentially turn your Steam Deck into one of these, still don't add up to the price of this device, it's not just overpriced in general, but compared to what's on offer for alternatives.

I could see people getting this as a handheld gaming pc and the (3)ds/wiiu capabilities is a nice bonus
The lighting fast “I didn’t” in the sponsor earned a like and sub. That killed me 😂😂
Using the Legion Go as a Wii U emulator is pretty great. Connect it to a TV, and use the bottom screen and tablet as the gamepad. It works very well.
The Wii Weather Channel Night time music...so peaceful. Reminds me of when I was 15, staying up too late. Too much nostalgia. Hard to grasp being older than double that age now.
This seems like it could be amazing in theory, but something has to be done about all of those workarounds and extra 3rd party apps. Cool concept!
18:01 that "Stilgar almost forgets to say it" 15 second video is literally on my home screen right now lol
I think from an innovation standpoint, this this is dope. From a quality control, user experience, price, and business model standpoint, YIKES. Can't wait to see ambernic, retroid, analoge, and others though follow some of the blueprints of this and make their own spins
FYI Citra now has a replacement, Lime3DS! (not Lemonade, that project has basically imploded)
If Wii U / Switch / Xbox / PS3 / PC games aren’t a necessity, I’d say a Surface Duo (2 if possible) is the superior DS device with a telescopic controller, ofc. Much better battery life than the Ayaneo along with dual OLED displays. Also, a lot les headache and tinkering with these emulator settings to get dual screen working for DS as Drastic works perfect for it. The fact that both displays are near 6” 4:3 displays that fold completely fold back, makes it also perfect for all 4:3 systems like N64, GC, PS2, SNES, etc. Pair this with any other PC handheld like Ally or Deck OLED and you’re at near the same price as the Ayaneo DS with one being dedicated more for a emulation system with longer battery.
I will say this has my attention and i would love for aya to do a second iteration on this model later down the line. But if my 3ds dies i would absolutely be interested in getting one of these when the 3ds aren’t easily available any more
To fix the DS emulator not having separate windows, you need to run DS games through the 3DS emulator like Citra. Citra has an option for dual windows.. that's how I play MM3D and OoT3D on my PC.. Also you don't need an app for borderless gaming literally just hit f11 or Alt enter for full screen...
Damn Bob, this video was next freaking level. Keep killing it!
I love your creative commercials. ❤
Handheld Companion allows you to create individual virtual controller profiles for each program or game. E.g. I have the virtual Xbox360 as default, but have a profile where it would run a virtual PS4 controller every time I fire up RPCS3 for PS3 emulation, so this way you don't need to switch virtual controllers every time. I does it automatically.
i was waiting for your video on this
I think there's a windows app that lets you send a window to another screen. It adds the the top bar next to the minimize buttons.
Why was the bottom screen so small lmao
Have you ever reviewed the GPD XD Plus? Its a bit old by now, but i was curious as to if you've reviewed it or could review it now to see if it holds up with its specs.
The Nintendo 4DS Pro Omega Super Xtreme looks so good.
I wonder if Bob will ever find a use for a tackpad on one of these handhelds.
0:42 Laughed so hard 😂 Great editing idea
20:26 Market's not yet calmed down enough to do that buddy!
I cannot stress enough how much i need this. That is an adhd nostalgia machine. Gonna start putting some cash aside slowly for this thing.
14:36 I think for borderless gaming you have to choose the process binary name (AKA the .exe option)... so it disregards the titles, and immediately recognizes the emulator. It'll save you from the annoying setup of every game that you emulate. The All-in-one solution. Give it a try Wulff Den.
I appreciate your video, but I find the cons you mentioned to not be enough, because the device has so much going for it, especially with it being the first attempt to make such a portable dual screen Windows device, when other people start getting their hands on it and start making mods for it or software to help with the functionality and stuff, that's when this device will finally shine just like the Ally and Legion Go are currently doing, as those devices also were pretty flawed when they were first released, but people are currently loving them after the community has gotten very involved into tweaking them as much as they can. I expect to eventually see people installing Bazzite OS on this device to get the Steam Deck experience, as that happened for the Ally and the Legion Go too, and for some people they are actually enjoying themselves much more using that, since that OS uses less resources and has better battery profiles which end up extending a game session without needing to recharge. What I look forward the most though is for people to start downgrading Windows 11 to Windows 10 and see how that runs on the Flip DS, as for many folks they liked doing that on the Ally, and I also agree that Windows 11 just gives off an icky like feeling, after I tried using it on my primary desktop and eventually reverted back to 10 due to conflicts and issues with the software I regularly use. I can't wait for the Ayaneo Flip DS to become available online, as I was tempted to do the crowdfund for it on IndieGoGo, but I do not trust such websites anymore after being scammed so many times through Kickstarter and stuff.
Best thing about this device is it enables ultra sun/moon to finally run at a playable framerate. It's like 2 or 3 second delay going from a pokemon menu back to overworld.
I think this could be great in a couple of years when the price drops. Being able to pull up a walkthrough video on KZread on the bottom screen or pop up the steam community comments would be fantastic! I think the gpd win mini would be a better choice for anyone considering the keyboard variant instead of the ds. I feel the gpd line has done more to improve over the years and earn customer trust than Ayaneo has imo.
The software dimmer by Nelson pires may help with your screen brightness troubles. I can’t remember if this is the one I used to use on my computer but it can dim your screen past the normal brightness values
These devices are cool to see where the current ‘edge’ of handhelds can be. Also I think a lot of these PC handhelds are a good indicator for what Nintendo WON’T and will do. I don’t imagine Nintendo releasing a handheld with less than 3 hours battery life which definitely limits them. I just cannot imagine a Nintendo device that would only have 1 or 2 hours when it was brand new. If the next Switch has 3 hours I will be fine with that since I rarely play that long in portable anyways and you can always bring a big battery charger along if you end up playing longer on a flight or long road trip. The other thing I’ve really appreciated about seeing all the devices that have come out since the Switch is just how damn efficient the Switch is. They really nailed it with battery life from day 1 with the Switch and somehow made it so devs could make games for 8 years though I think we hit the wall in terms of what Switch can do pretty fast at launch. The balance of power and efficiency with affordability is a difficult one Nintendo engineers have no doubt been dealing with. If we can get a portable PS4 power Switch I’ll be pretty happy though I still don’t think Nintendo is there yet. The development of the mobile space and all these portable PCs is rapidly changing and that is one reason I am glad Nintendo has ‘delayed’ the next system until 2025. Better late and better than early and weak sauce. The Switch 2 would do well to become a line of devices like iPhone where upgrades can be added on yearly or every other year basis but I just don’t think that would fit Nintendo’s image. I just don’t imagine Nintendo Switch 2 will be even as strong as Steam Deck but that would be amazing just to be on par with it.
Been waiting for this one
I could see myself getting this sometime down the line to be my dedicated DS/3ds and possibly Wii U emulator because it would be nice emulate those on a device with that form factor. Same reason I picked up a GPD Win 4 to strictly be my Sony emulator. Unless there happens to be a more affordable dual screen device that's capable of Emulating 3ds and Wii U and no I'll not simply just buy a 3DS and heaps of games; getting some other sort of dual screen device and emulating ALL the games is more affordable.
