Complete White’s Tree Frog Care Guide 2021

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

White’s tree frogs, dumpy tree frogs, or Australian tree frogs have been kept in captivity for many years. There seems to be a lack of youtube content about them so i'm hoping to change that!

ABOUT ME:
Hello! My name is Emma and I have a very large passion for educating the public on reptiles, amphibians, and rodents on proper small animal care. I do like to also keep my channel fresh and make some lighter hearted videos as well! I pay for most of my animals things, and I’m an extremely dedicated keeper. With that being said, I would never give up on my animals, they are my kids. All of them are in above minimum enclosures. I am constantly researching new care, and ways to improve my pets well being and life. I’m very open to CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM) hate is not tolerated. We can have a civil conversation if you have a problem or have concerns, thank you!

I recommend having a basking spot or heat pad and thermostat that measures up to about 85°. It’s great for their digestion or if they just want some extra warmth! Sorry I completely forgot to discuss that

Had a white tree frog for over 15 years handled it almost everyday with not a single problem I always washed my hands and arms before and after with no soap or any chemicals and like I sayed never had any issues had a few friends with the Same results so personally I think it's fine to handle them but you do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Thank you for all the info! I'm taking care of my kiddo's WTF and wasn't given much instruction (husband got Covid, kiddo had to stay away and is very difficult to reach when away). I went to the pet store yesterday, utterly clueless, and they got me fixed up with some small crickets. He hadn't eaten in 2 weeks, but I was assured he conserves his energy well and has gone longer without eating by his own choice. Still, I'm a mom and one of our go tos is ensuring things are fed! 😆 Initially I felt Really bad about feeding him the crickets. I reminded myself I used to put them on a hook to fish and this was similar. She has the same froggy cup and he was lounging in it, but once that cricket touched his lip he reminded me of our dogs, begging for another treat. He was so eager to eat that I forgot to feel guilty about the crickets. Now I can't help myself - I'm constantly peeking in on him. I mist his enclosure when it gets dry and angle my head every which way to ensure he's still breathing. Never thought I'd care so much about a frog, but The Detective is a pretty cool little dude and I'm enjoying my time with him. Your information helped answer some questions I had (or reinforce answers I received) so thank you, again.

Amazing video! I got my whites tree frog at the beginning of august this year. When I got him he was about an inch and 1/2. He is now much larger, maybe even double. I’ve been feeding him 5-6 small/medium crickets a everyday, with the occasional worm. Do you think I should move him to feeding every other day now? :)

I just recently got a little Australian whites tree frog and (using he because we don't know the gender) he kinda just sits there, we usually feed him 5 crickets once per day but he only eats around 2-3 of them (he's 2 months old) he also doesn't move a lot and sleeps at the end of the day. Is this normal? We got a decent size cage for him and yeah. So, Say hi to Pickles :D

I am getting a white tree frog soon. I have a 20 gallon tank set up with everything from heating lamps to fresh moss and automatic mist-ers. I however am not thrilled about the crickets as they are loud. If i fed my frog calcium/frog vitamins and meal worms (or other quiet bugs) would she get the nutrients she needs? Or do i definitely need to feed her crickets?

It’s completely normal for a white’s tree frog to not eat up to the first week even. If it goes beyond that or they continue losing weight I’d recommend getting them checked out at the vet. Try a variety of insects, and if you do have a male they are known for going off food for mating/brumation reasons.

I personally use 50% cypress mulch 50% top soil mixed and my frogs seem to do well with it. You can use just one or the other just make sure it’s only top soil and nothing with fertilizers/pesticides in the substrate! For a baby 0-6 months I’d say daily and 6-12 months every other day!
