How do I use oil and liquid pipes and oil and liquid engines correctly? Here are all the answers!
My tutorials and how to guides are aimed at new players, who may have skipped the in game tutorial or found issue with the same. This game has many hidden features, and I aim to show you all of them.
WR:SR is an amazing sandbox city/republic builder, that allows you to control all aspects of your new country, from citizens happiness, health, education to production chains, vehicle and resource production, import export. You can do all this by truck, train, ship, and in the near future plane. There are a million ways to make your republic your own and that’s what we will do.
I just started this channel, and I hope you enjoy the content. I’m also active on:

Thanks for these tutorials! This explains why it seemed before why "overflow" seemed to work sometimes and not other times. I never would have noticed the difference between setups on my own before. Awesome catch!
Love the tutorials! I always find out something new.
Maybe some additional input: My experience was I think 1.5 years ago, in a advanced gameplay, that the vanilla pumps are not powerful enought when the refinery runs on full power and the pumps configurated behind each other, to empty the factory storage. To solve this problem, I changed the arrangement and put a tank between them, adding a second parallel line to them. This works until I got three refineries, feeding in one common tank system. This maxed out the capacity of the vanilla pumps, that's why I made some experiments and yes - beside I know you just playing mainly vanilla - I switched to the simple forward pump from the workshop, which is more powerful but a gamechanger for pump over large amount of liquids. So I changed also the configuration of oil fields and just pump the oil directly from the wells with the vanilla pumps into a storage, and then with the simple forward pump to the factory over large pipelines. That worked well.
There is one topic that didn't got covered: interpretation of storages by distribution offices. If, for example, you connect oil unloading to pump to oil storage, distribution office won't deliver any oil to it. If you open oil unloading building you won't see any connected storages either.
It is amazing how needlessly complicated they make aspects of the game

Needlessly complicated is realistic.

@@josephbischoff2469 Not necessarily. You'd think that liquid in a container, when the container is full, spills over into the next one connected to it by virtue of sheer pressure.

Honestly, this seems more like a bug than intended. Especially because if you fully fill up one storage it all stops working.

@@dijego-jelle It has been in the game for ages though
I would love if they added just the forwarding pump like the mod does. But this recent update did make the, as you say, two level system more obvious? But again it's there :)

I don't know that anything was made more obvious in the most recent update...

@@bballjo Well, the normal overflow stopped if there is no engine/active connection now. So kinda is more obvious with removing the old feature :D
Any gameplay today? Waiting for it 😉

S5 returns Saturday. Also, you may want to check out my schedule when I post it;)
So... since a pump has 3 outputs, you can connect a storage tank to each and then each has 2 outputs, so you can add 6 on top of that. This means that with vanilla pump and storage tanks, you can store 10x the volume of the tank by using a single pump (1 tank between factory and pump). The question is why would you do such thing and how would you get it out of storage without Distribution Office...

Exactly
Having not watched your actual gameplay videos, I've got a question that this video doesn't cover; Is there any practical reason to connect more than 1 storage silo to the Oil Refinery per oil type? :D Seems like running out of storage space would indicate a transport bottleneck instead that ought to be fixed, right? In what scenarios is 1500 tons of Fuel (let alone Bitumen) storage not enough?
@bballjo

Easy...ships. but yes, you can definitely work with less storages.
what happens if you connect pump input and output to the same tank or loop through tanks in a similar way? Will it crash the game ? :)
From these come out my false accusations that liquids can overflow to next silo without additional motor/pump and others do not have. Because I have never connected multiple warehouses without engines between them and liquids (as a fuel setup) I did. So, basically, they are all the same, right? Pushing always available through 2 warehouses after an engine or into the nearest one

I need a quick tip if anyone knows. What water quality requirement is for a standard [vanila] oil refinery? Still have some time until start planning the refinery zone but not much so I need to know if water treatment is necessary or if I just can finish the job with water of lower quality directly from wells? If anyone knows this please tell me. Another way is to start a new save just to check this info and then back to the main save. I play with the realistic mod on, and everything is on hard settings - [if that info is necessary to know before answering]. Thanks in advance

All buildings tell you the water requirements in the details before you build them for industry usage, outside of that every building that contains citizens requires drinking water and sewage connections (is also shown as water usage in the details window).

@@bballjo When I was searching for that info I only found the volume of water required for the building but can't see what minimum quality it needs to be. There are 10 cubics needed for the refinery and that's ok but I am trying to avoid water treatment building for this industry zone if possible and instead give it water of lower quality directly from the source [nature water from the well].

Look again...for contrast look at a Food Factory or Concrete Plant. they clearly state what water they need for production (next to a blue water symbol), they also all say the drinking water requirements in the details...drinking water is the same for all citizens.

@@bballjo Yes you give a good example, concrete plant really tells what quality it requires also a food factory. It is not the case with the refinery but I have checked it on another save and it requires "drinking water" so the quality is the same as for citizens in towns. Thanks for the answer, already learned from you so much!
