Ehh this video felt a bit questionable. For most people bulk cut cycles are neither sustainable in the long run nor likely to work early on. Most people will bulk and never cut or cut and never gain muscle. Very few people have the ability to start out with bulk cut cycles and they can very quickly lead to unhealthy habits. For most people the right starting step is to simply start lifting if they are not doing that or if they are fat to simply start tracking calories. Or do both. But purposefully boosting calories is almost always bad advice for people new to lifting. And cutting calories if you already have a reasonable body fat percentage but have not started lifting with the intention to start lifting after you hit an ideal body fat ratio is also a terrible idea. Bulk cut cycles might be ideal if you are training perfectly but they are not very healthy and most people fail at them. Further you can get a really good physique without using them. His section about sets is also pretty misleading even if technically correct. For natural body builders it is really difficult to apply too much effort. When he talks about training until you are a couple reps from failure that is correct. But the way he talks about it suggests that people are pretty balanced in falling over or under. The reality is the vast majority of natural lifters don't go anywhere close to hard enough. It is really hard to truly push yourself to be 1 or 2 reps from failure every set. He also overemphasizes machines vs free weights. There might be small differences but they are highly debated and not meaningful for the vast majority of people. As he correctly points out the exact lifts you do are not that important. But the reality is choosing lifts is more important than machines vs free weights.

@@Dan-sw8tg I am not trying to troll. The video is problematic because most people should not be doing cycles of bulking and cutting or even bulking and cutting at all. There is nothing wrong with giving advice about how bulking and cutting work. But this video is directed at people new to body building and gives them the bad advice to concentrate on bulking and/or cutting when this is generally terrible advice for new body builders.

Joe, i have been a fan since you were Michael’s skinny brother….. always interesting, informational and entertaining.
Absolutely the clearest, most straightforward and honest video on the subject I've seen. Brilliant!
This is the best gym/workout/fitness video I have ever viewed, no bullshit, this should be the first thing everyone watches in their journey. Absolute slapper of a vid. Prime YT right here. Happy to be here to see it.
This was the perfect breakdown done in an easily digestible format. After 17 years in the gym without more than a couple weeks off, I can tell you that Joe hit the nail on the head with every point. Keep it simple.
I've seen so many of these.. and yet, Joe's vids always motivate me to jump back into the fray once more! Thanks Joe, thanks for keeping it so simple and clear. It really makes the whole idea of "getting fit" more approachable in my mind
This is the video so simply broken down that sometimes even experienced fitness people need to hear. Exercise always gets so complicated, there is so much information out there. This should be the first video people watch when getting into fitness! Extremely well done Joe all the way from Oz! Love all your videos and thank you for what you do!
Dude, your content has got me on the path of a PPL split after training for 1 year without tracking workouts calories - now doing your recommended split and exercises for a year, whilst on a cut! your such an inspiration
"fleeting moments of self acceptance"... This is the state we enjoy most but visit less frequently than one would desire. Perfectly expressed in 5 words... Genius!!
Hey man, been training pretty hard for over a year now and you were a great source of motivation and information, thank you for what you dooo. 🙌🏻
I've got to be honest here Joe... Amazing mate... the time and dedication to edit a video with so much free information is off the scale... can't thank you enough
I usually don´t comment on YT videos. As a PT myself with some experience I have to say that this is the absolut most comprehensive, easy understanding informational video about body composition I´ve ever discovered. Great job!
Years of practical knowledge condensed succinctly. Thank you for this amazing, high-quality vid.
I've followed your advice and others' since last summer and basically started doing calisthenics a couple times a week + started bouldering at the rock climbing gym once or twice a week since then, and I'm looking way way more shredded than I ever have. Changing my diet also helped immensely; I started eating way less food, and ate way more protein. I'm happy with my progress after 1 year
Straightforward and to the point. Joe is the MAN! Bookmarking this to send to all the newbies. Good stuff man. Thank you!
This video deserves a million views by now. Joe, you are awesome mate! Love your humour and no b*llshit approach. Definitely sharing this to the masses.
Joe is the best I’ve seen on youtube at making all of this complex science actionable. Been watching fitness youtube for years. and this is quite the crash course.

Schrödinger's calories? LMFAO!
Great video Joe. I used to lift in my 20’s and 30’s, now in my 50’s and enjoying getting back in shape. This video really does cover everything you need in a nutshell. I so wish such motivational content had have been available 20 years ago.
You are the best fitness influencer out there! A combination of fun & knowledge. Thanks!
Easily one of the best (and funniest) overview fitness videos I've ever seen. Awesome. Thank you!
Incredible! Very straight to the point, cut to the chase, only the essential fact. Love it much all, for it has provided me multiple ideas and inspiration to my training. Thanks, man!
Bruh...Thanks for this... Simple, Easy and No BS. Tired of all the others who over explain, make it too complicated, make it sound like magic and try to sell BS products. Keep up the Great work 👍
Hands down, best overall explanation of how to do "Fitness" I've ever seen.
Basically , it takes years... I'm 57 been in a gym for past 8 months and am delighted with newby gains, I weight the same but lost 6%body fat and those shorts are tight, you never disappoint mr Joey D
The most no BS fitness channel on the internet. Thanks for dishing out the facts.
A spot on classy and direct video as usual!! If I could add one thing from experience is: Listen to your body. Push beyond your limits but do not push beyond pain... or it will be months of time off due to injury!

@@DennisThoughtful It does explain everything great in simple to easy to understand language. The problem is what it is explaining is bad advice. In particular the advice to go on cut bulk cycles. It is very hard for most people to make major adjustments their diets. It is especially hard to reduce calorie intake. It isn't that hard to start lifting comparatively. . Recommending people go on bulk and cut cycles when they start lifting will lead many people to quit because it is so difficult. This is tragic because new lifters will see good results by just lifting . Bulk cut cycles are also not very sustainable or healthy. Further many people who bulk will never manage to cut. They will just develop unhealthy eating habits and get fat. Don't trust me though. Look up more reputable body building advice. They will all recommend that non obese/anorexic people simply try to start lifting and eat healthier without trying to either bulk or cut for the first year or so. For people who are obese or anorexic they should focus on these problems not body building initially. There are other errors in the video. But this is the most problematic part of the video. Bulk cut cycles are the most optimal way to body build if you follow them perfectly and care only about how you look ignoring health of sustainability. But it is bad advice for general beginners.

actually one of the best fitness videos on this website
Love that you just get to the point !!
Another perfectly presented video from Joe. In an ocean of misinformation, this channel is the little oasis you've been looking for 🏝️
The PUSH app is by far the most slept on, effective, beautiful UI, and driver for progress in the gym I've seen so far. I was using it yesterday and it automatically adjusted weight and a rep down based on some prior activity. Something I would have never done on my own when tracking let alone lifting in general. It kept me from going to failure too early and potentially slowing me down in another similar exercise.
Really well said bro....a nice summary of many different principles.
A masterwork. Dozens of videos distilled and condensed into 1.
They say that when you really understand something, it doesn't take you a lot of time or a bunch of arcane language to explain it. Well, JD understands how to get in the kind of shape that most people want. Best overall fitness KZread video I've ever seen.
I have been hitting the gym on and off since I was 14 (which is quite a while back). Joe Delaney communicates the basic facts extremely well and sprinkles in quite a bit of fun as well. Extremely recommended for beginners.
You are the definition of inspiration, Joey🙌
“I don’t wanna get too big” is something I’ve only heard people who have never worked out say and they are the same people who then complained they saw fuck all progress within like 2 months 😂 if you’re natural it ain’t gunna be an issue

This is the most straightforward and informational video I've ever seen on this subject. ... And you definitely look better than that guy at the end. He's shredded but looks smaller than you.
Perfect video. And amazing editor skills 👌🏻
Fantastic video Joe, so much information in 12 mins
Thanks, Joe. This was a good one. After cutting forever (13 months) to start, I've been taking a break and basically maintaining (maybe slight upward trend). I really liked hearing that it is hard to lose fat and build muscle at the same time. I'm just going to concentrate on building muscle for a while and then I can go back to cutting at a later date.
This reminds me of your old school info videos. Nice work Joe 👌
