    Tips from Comments: @Felaeris Embrace the power of Sprint Cancel to H1 -> H1. For this reason, and being able to cheaply walk through Mauler/Rager hordes without CD, I really prefer Thunderstrike IV. @cashcrop I was able to accomplish this by holding W and Shift while spamming Heavy Attack - this will chain Heavy 1 as long as I'm able to move forward. @Felaeris You only need to hold 'shift' long enough to change the animation (about a half second.) Just make sure you do NOT release left click. This has the added advantage of helping you maintain proper distance when juggling crusher packs. @Axehilt Maybe a bit too much emphasis on blocking, given the value of slide-heavy-attacking. I want to say 16:53 gunner is just out of range of this technique, but only barely. So the correct strategy there would be: 1. walk forward ~1 full second 2. whip 90 degrees left/right 3. immediately dodge-slide towards him 4. immediately start charging a heavy during the slide (and release pretty close to the end of the slide -- basically whenever you know you're in range of the attack hitting) This is particular effective if there are a lot of other shooters around too, as now you're within the range where they'll simply shut off their ranged attacks and waste time switching to melee (if they're not outright hit and staggered by your attack). Also the distance of that heavy attack hitting determines how long you actually needed to walk forward (you should block as little as possible, basically). With the right rooms, I'll basically ping-pong between several gunners set up in cover within a room this way (but again, if they're as distant as the guy at 16:53, then you need to move for a little while and that's where blocking becomes useful). At least until you hit Shield's dodge limit but by that point the room will often mostly be defused. To be clear block-advancing isn't a terrible way of closing on positions like this, it's just quite a lot slower at tying up all those ranged enemies so I think it loses out overall. (And blocking in place is of course horrible unless those enemies somehow happen to be actively taunted, and maybe you got burster-punted across the room. Rare, but it could conceivably happen.) Hadzi clued me in to the dodge speed with the Shield. This translates into a slightly longer slide than you'd get from some other weapons.

    The slab reminds me of how shields were in Vermintide 1, I think the only way to make it better would be to make the light attacks more single target focused. One day I'll get back to OG axe and shield bardin.... one day.

    I was more fond of dual-wield axe Slayer Bardin in VT2. Closest we get to the single-target Maul attacks is the Push Attack. I'm curious what other variants of the Shield will look like, now that we have new variants of the Shovel that are quite different, mechanically, from the OG.

    Ive been playing shield for so long my gameplay has melted into spamming heavy 1 (resetting the combo via tapping block) for literally everything. Plop on brutal momentum and just sweep the hitbox for great clear. Repeatedly smack crushers with it until they drop. It does basically everything! Though sometimes i use light 1 and light 2 to screen horde enemies from reaching my teammates doing something, but i dont do that too often. Against Plague Ogryns you have enough time between the downtime of their attack combos to do heavy 1 and then block the oncoming hit, its great. Against Bulwarks if im feeling lazy i'll spam heavy 1s into their shield and itll open them up in like 3 heavies. Ive been running carapace on my shield, might be cool enough for my dps against one crusher using heavies to never let him swing since he gets staggered once, falls over, and then dies before he can squeak an attack out. I never leave home without my rock and ive swapped from using taunt shout to going back to charge like the good ole days. +9 stamina, stam regen, gunner resist and ordos because im baller like that.

    I've been slowly trying to turn my brain off to Soften Them Up (I mean, I do like running Frag Bomb). Rocks are great, and everyone gets a kick out of them. I really have to try your Curio setup. That's so much Stamina. With the amount of Toughness coming out of the Talent Tree and the amount of innate Health the Ogryn has, I bet it feels pretty good. Just Uncle Moneybags with that Stamina. I do find myself swiping at junk enemies with Lights to save buddies from a swipe from an enemy. The stagger is good, and the damage isn't too bad against trash mobs. So you run Carapace. Do you run Heavy Hitter, as well?

    I personally run a grenade gauntlet with my shield, kickback/rumbler is certainly effective for deleting mid range specials/elites so its a matter of preference. The reason I love GG though is three fold. 1. The ammo economy is a bit more forgiving if you have a decently rolled one with Pinpointing Target. You get 35 shots on an 71% ammo GG. This is the average roll I would aim for assuming blast damage and penetration are nearly maxed. Reason for this is that with the ammo mod you get a total of 44 shots which is admittedly only 4 more than kickback but 12 more than with a similar ammo stat rumbler. 2. The special deletion has essentially infinite range. There is a little variance that can throw off super long range shots but you have nearly double the potential one shot range compared to the kickback. Rumbler even with a perfect build can be inconsistent as running specials often get staggered out of the blast radius and end up not dying when you need them to. Rumbler makes up for this with better unyielding/Ogryn damage but honestly as a shielder you should be focusing on simply not taking damage against these targets as you team uses their skills that are simply more ammo efficient. 3.The GG has an open blessing slot, Pinpointing is mandatory imo while there are 3 potential options for the 2nd. -Shattering impact enables your team against the monstrosities and carapace the shield isn't well suited for. The full 8 stacks on a boss results in a net 20% global damage buff with even full penetration weapons getting a hefty boost. Way you run it is that you launch two quick nades before taunting with shield, use shield to take no damage/dodge angry boss, then reapply the debuff between their combos. If the boss isnt aggroed onto you you can also do decent damage onto their weakpoint. -Toughness on elite kill is great, any damage you take aiming for the special/elite mid fight means nothing because when they die you get a third of your toughness. Certain curio builds means you essentially get a psykers entire toughness bar back every time you kill an elite. It more often than not means you can skip Smash em or The Best Defense (25% regen on 1 or 3+ melee hit) netting an extra talent point or two for mid tier perks like Hard Knocks, Towering Presence, Ready and Reloaded, etc. -Blaze away seems decent but is kind of a trap. The window for it stacking is absurdly tiny and you can only get 3 stacks before reload, the buff ends up being outweighed by charging PP for 1 second, the reason why its here though is that if you can nail that spam window you can then use the melee power increase for a solid few seconds and have it be buffed up to become quite a substantial source of dps and stagger allowing for the weirdest crusher combo ever where you nail 4 specials in a row and then start bonking a crusher and have it die nearly as fast as Mk1 club could deal, then switch back to shield for rest of horde.

    I've been trying to roll a new GG. The old dump stat used to be Melee Damage, so I have a bunch with 40% to 50%. Blaze Away, currently, stacks on melee attacks which is kinda cool. But yeah, I've never like the idea that you can only get to 3 stacks with it from ranged attacks (if they would just add a fifth round). It's bothered me that Shattering impact only adds 2.5% Brittleness per stack instead of the 5% stated in the description. However, being able to add Brittleness from range is pretty nice. I do like Toughness on Elite kill, especially with the breakpoints that can be achieved through Pinpointing Target. I put GG in the same category as Kickback, in that, you can pair them with just about any melee weapon and you're good to go. Sorry for the late reply, been busy with family this holiday season. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Additionally, thank you for subscribing. I really appreciate it.

Quite simply it's fantastic - If a group is struggling I'll pull out the shield to bulwark the party and get the mission done. The ability to reign in packs of shooters is 10/10. I appreciate that, I really do. I'll likely do a video on the Stubbers one day. These weapon deep dives take a lot of time to make, though. I've decided that, unless there are some major changes to the Talent Trees or we get a new Class, I'm kind of done making build videos. I'll throw builds into my videos, but nothing focused specifically on a build. For Gorgonum, here are a couple of builds: Melee-focused: darktide.gameslantern.com/builds/9a82d977-541f-45ca-9bcb-e53550e3e02c/big-hole-maker Range-focused: darktide.gameslantern.com/builds/9a6d828a-55fd-4ff4-bb03-8bb5a6cfada3/ultimate-stubgunner-for-oxmor For the ranged one, you could swap the melee out for Bull Butcher with Confident Strike and Slaughterer, but it leaves you at a disadvantage for Carapace damage, which the Gorg doesn't have.

    Great vid man. I've spent the last month with the shield glued to my hands in auric damnation and everything you say here is true. Only difference is I find I need to dodge dance a bit less in combat, and save a dodge charge for the inevitable trapper that sneaks up on you in Shock Troop Gauntlet. One thing I suggest you try is the cool down reduction on stagger (just getting started) for the aoe taunt build. I swear by it. Being able to easily farm back your super means you can use your super in more ways than just to taunt. I find the stagger on the taunt is useful to knock a crusher back down during his stagger immunity, along with just being a large aoe interrupt to everyone around you. Having the talent that gives you speed and stun immunity when you pop taunt also helps your team stay nimble after you stagger everyone with the aoe taunt. Then, you just farm your super back by using the king of stagger weapons.

  • @cashcrop_

    @cashcrop_

    I'll have to give the CDR Talent a go. I turned my nose up at it when I discovered it gave one tick of cooldown per strike instead of per enemy staggered. I'm such a snob. I think that actually may be a good strat for the Hard Mode Karnak twins. I've beaten it with the Shield and the Mk IIIb Bully Club. Taunt and damage to Flak/Carapace is critical. Shield was perfect. Dodging around the mines on the floor is a bit rough with it, though. Get Stuck In, the movement rate and stagger immunity, is also great in this fight as your team has to change positions frequently, and the movement speed to prevent corruption damage is great.

    You're welcome. It seems like they keep messing with Stagger. In Patch 13, they adjusted stagger, and Cleavers couldn't stagger Crushers anymore. Then they fixed that in Patch 14 or so, but Latrine Shovel still can't stagger a Crusher without a fully-stacked Thrust Heavy to the weak spot. However, you can perma-stagger a Crusher with the new Chain Axe with only Heavy attacks. Kinda all over the place.

    Maybe a bit too much emphasis on blocking, given the value of slide-heavy-attacking. I want to say 16:53 gunner is _just_ out of range of this technique, but only barely. To be clear block-advancing isn't a _terrible_ way of closing on positions like this, it's just quite a lot slower at tying up all those ranged enemies so I think it loses out overall. (And blocking in place is of course horrible unless those enemies somehow happen to be actively taunted, and maybe you got burster-punted across the room. Rare, but it could conceivably happen.)

    Finally my favorite melee weapon, I love running the shield, it's just great to be a giant wall. I was using the shield since the begining even before the first proper buff it got, was great to see it buffed around may this year. And the whole skilltree update has made the shield so much better with all the possible talents, Soften 'Em Up is great for its +15% damage from all sources. Only thing I'd personally want for the shield is the power activation that the Pauls have. I think it could be possible to do, just make the shield's mace power activation slightly worse than the Paul. Basically it'd set roles for the weapons, the Paul would be your all out damage and attack but it sacrifices defence, and shield is all about defence but with less damage. My shield usually has unarmored and flak on it with skullcrusher and brutal momentum. My ranged is the Mk2 Ripper, because it's just fun and hits hard. And my curious are just +21% health curios to become a proper tank. Great video like always. Keep at it dude, you're great, love to watch these weapon videos. 👍

    With what we got with the Shovels, it wouldn't surprise me if a Power Maul made it into another version of the Shield. If they made it as powerful as the current Power Maul that would be good, and then follow that up with buffing the Power Maul. It's in a pretty rough place at the moment. It, at least, had the trick of consistently staggering Crushers. It can't do that after Traitor's Curse Part 2, unfortunately. Everybody loves the Mk V, but I'm a Mk II fan.

    I'd say go for it. I've never looked at the difference between +20% Block Efficiency versus +2 Stamina. I would hope that Block Efficiency has much more benefit than Stamina for the number of blocks it can add to your pool. Stamina used to give +1 regardless of level, and they recently adjusted that, so it's worth more now than it used to be. Stamina does have the added benefit of additional Sprint distance (likely a small amount for this weapon @ 2.3 ish per second) and total number of Pushes. Of course, there are often strange interactions in this game, and Block Efficiency may very well interact with number of Pushes.

    I had started to suspect the shield slam started with the animation and not when the shield was placed but hadn't tested it, only just hit 30 last night. I never liked tanking in vermintide 2 or heavy attacks as you were locked into them (or it was a fever memory), so darktide makes me happy. Both tanking and the option to rush my heavy attack at the cost of damage make me feel good. By the by, do you know the math on bleed stacks and its cap?

  • @cashcrop_

    @cashcrop_

    7 ай бұрын

    Bleed caps at 16 stacks, and the damage varies by armor type. As far as I'm aware, Power will not increase its value per tick, but Rending/Brittleness will arbitrarily increase its value per tick by lowering the armor value of the enemy. IIRC, when you have stopped refreshing the Bleed, I believe there are four ticks of damage at the stack level you have achieved then each tick afterward is one level lower until it is gone. I haven't tested it much (I had done some testing with Burn shortly before Patch 7 - when they changed Burn and how it interacts with Flak+), and I think the minimum value per tick is 2. Can't be certain on that one though. Edit: I forgot to mention that Skullcrusher stacks and while the target is staggered will increase the Bleed damage per tick.

Traditionally the slabshields we have in game worked better on lots of smaller weaker attacks, while the smaller bucklers were less effective. As good as always. There is nothing else to say. We run quite different build tbh, ranged I go for Ripper gun, because the DoT stacking is just stupid and I like to have something to deal very quickly with armored, not to mention damage on boss (chain stab apply a very big dot). Most notable difference are I go for Lynchpin and Towring presence and run full stam regen and block efficiency. With Feel No Pain and all the upgrades, I have a stupid amount of passive stam toughness regen. I might drop Pained outburst for Payback time or Dominate, but I don't feel that the shield is a great damage machine, so as well amplify my good point, rather that trying to compensate for weakness I can deal another way (hello Ripper Gun). So... I won't pretend it's a way to go as I might lose quite some damage compared to your builds, but it's effective. My build. Most of the thing are per design, though I might take health curio. But running with 150+ toughness with all the regen is really great (and as Ogryn are Ogryn, HP value isn't low) My philosophy is about being super supportive and clutch machine. I still do damage, but if mate can freely shoot without worrying with defense, that compensate my own lower damage by there upper uptime doing some. darktide.gameslantern.com/build-editor?id=9ad8cf91-a0cd-4995-8c3d-3b8fe4702407

I could probably just bring some more passive (aura radius) and have a bit more clutch survivability. I think Pained Outburst is pretty tight, but I wish it would work on grab attacks (Mutie and Spawn). I may give the Ripper a try. I need to roll up another shield. The one I love has a 64% Crowd Control modifier and I wish it was ever so slightly faster. Great to hear from you, as always. I think it needs a bump in damage, a change to attack speed for Heavy Attacks, a new Light combo, or perhaps a mixture of the 3 PLUS bringing back chain stagger of Crushers. I'd be okay with other weapons being incapable of chain staggering Crushers, as long as the power weapons (Crusher, TH, Power Maul) could do it. A key thing is that using bleed builds up stacks of thunderous, so all you need is one heavy to gain maximum brittleness. You can then use slaps to throw maulers and ragers to the floor (skullcrusher will also increase bleed damage) and then you can do whatever you want to them at this point ad they will take massive amount of damage. Hey Cashcrop. If dealing with crushers that aren't surrounded by smaller enemies I usually heavy 1 over and over as it does more stagger and damage. What's the reasoning to adding heavy 2? I also like to run it with the MK II Ripper gun with can opener and blaze away to deal with heavy armour quickly with 2 stabs and a left click or delete a packed horde with braced fire. I also found that if I run triple block cost reduction I don't need a extra stamina curio so I went 2 health 1 toughness. For shield I run block cost, maniac, confident strike and skull crusher but considering brutal momentum after your showcase. For ripper I use flak and maniac. I run a similar build to your loyal protector build but will list my changes and the reasons for taking: Instead of reloaded and ready and reload boost I have lynchpin and 25% toughness as I don't get as much reload value with using the ripper. I use rock and slam instead of bombs away and soften 'em up because I like the utility of taking out a far away elite or special and because I use ripper with can opener I don't need bomb. Instead of ammo stash I have toughness dmg reduction (under dominate) to compliment my next choices. Instead of attention seeker and payback time I run strongest! and toughest! because I feel whatever I'm attacking is usually staggered and my ult is up pretty often with a bit of combat ability regeneration so I don't care much about taunt from pushing and I think payback time is too situational, being able to regain all my Feel No Pain stacks from a few consecutive pushes is just too good to me and the extra toughness regeneration on top just makes me near indestructable. Alot of this is personal taste and the ranged weapon I'm using though.

    torm0!!! Nothing wrong with Heavy 1 spam against Crushers. The stagger window IS longer. In the video the Crushers aren't surrounded by enemies, but in a mission, that's rarely the case. It's consistent to me, as I know what I'm getting (instead of being surprised by an ill-timed Heavy 2 or Light 3 when I goof it up - my Crowd Control modifier is 64%, so my clicks sometimes outpace what the weapon is capable of). The case for Block Efficiency versus Stamina is something I'd like to explore. Stamina has other uses besides blocking, but I am curious if Block Efficiency has other benefit (like pushing). Payback Time triggers on a block, and Attention Seeker triggers on a push. As you say, it is personal taste. I tend to run with the same folks frequently, so they know that when I taunt, it's + Damage to all the red-headed enemies. Last comment you made, you mentioned that you had stepped away from the game for a while. You back?

  • @torm0

    @torm0

    @@cashcrop_ The main reason I would take block efficiency is tanking more gunfire with the shield or force sword with deflector, otherwise it's good against boss's and for weapons with a low stamina pool like the combat blade. I think stamina regen is much stronger overall. I did not know payback time triggered from a block, that's interesting. I just wish the taunt from attention seeker triggered the 25% damage buff from loyal protector. My playstyle is pretty aggressive so I'm knocking stuff over more than waiting for things to hit me. Oh and yeah I have gotten back into the game quite a bit. Happy with where it is going. Just hope there isn't a content draught.

  • @cashcrop_

    @cashcrop_

    7 ай бұрын

    Either one of the builds I've linked in the description have decent damage because of Batter (Bleed on Heavy). Indomitable will provide mobility, knockdown, more bleed, and a mechanism for recovering Toughness. Loyal Protector will force everything to attack you. It will also force all Dreg/Scab Stalkers, Scab Shooters, and Dreg/Scab Shotgunners who are taunted to engage you in melee. Additionally, it provides a brief stagger. If you want to "tank" as much as you can for your team, then you'll likely need to swap Valuable Distraction for Just Getting Started for more uptime on your Taunt Ability. If you want more damage, you can opt to not path down to the Feel No Pain keystone, and instead path down to the Heavy Hitter keystone. I find that I prefer Feel No Pain, as it lets me get away with some very aggressive play due to the extra Damage Resistance.

    Hang on. 4:04. Given one of its heavy strike sis a forward smash which effectively hits everyone at the same time this attack should technically by pass cleave. It should just hit all in range with teh same damage OR all in range with a distribution of teh damage if it was to be accurate to the animation. Assuming it works under cleave as normal which target counts as the first hit target on that forward smash attack? Also Does it really take that long to kill Crushers with the slab shield?! With the psyker using Deimos they are dead in three hits. Not staggered, dead. Seems like teh Ogryn should be doing way more damage surely? I mean i don't know cos i've not played Ogryn since the last update.

    It cleaves and damages 11 Groaners (so probably less on other enemy types), killing 1. If running Brutal Momentum, it will kill 4 (pretty sure BM is capped at 4), and the distribution of damage should continue on across the rest until it reaches either the 0 damage point or stops at the 11th target. I'm uncertain. And yes, killing Crushers takes around 4-6 strikes with H1 depending on your setup.

    Could you go a little depth into the trees? You mentioned going heavily into the heavy hitter tree but I see neither of your builds actually take its capstone. Does the heavy hitter perk not actually allow you to hit any specific breakpoints on shield? Likewise do you know how damage reduction stacking works? We have 10% from the nodes, 25% from feel on pain and then up to 60% from the bleed perk. I assume it would stack multiplicatively for about 73% but I dont really know how i'd go about testing beyond anecdotal "feelings". Also just as a personal opinion, its such a shame soften 'em up is where it is. I ADORE the rock and the fun value alone makes it a mainstay in my builds, but that perks potential in team play is just godly and I honestly feel like I am willingly playing worse by not taking it.

  • @cashcrop_

    @cashcrop_

    7 ай бұрын

    Certainly. I mentioned heavily into heavy hitter if I were running Gunlugger with a Shield, which I don't like doing. The breakpoints there are basically this: If I have Bleed because I take Indomitable or Loyal Protector, I can 3 shot a Dreg Rager with Heavy 1 spam (block cancelling). If I don't have Bleed and begin attacking a Dreg Rager with the same combo at 5 stacks of Heavy Hitter, it takes me 4 strikes of Heavy 1. If I don't have Bleed AND I don't take Heavy Hitter, it will take me 6 strikes of Heavy 1 to kill a Dreg Rager. Therefore, I don't like running Shield with Gunlugger because I am relegated to taking Heavy Hitter to get any meaningful breakpoints out of the weapon. And this is why it isn't shown in my builds. I don't run that way because I'd rather take just about any other weapon as a Gunlugger. Some folks like it, though, so I mentioned it.

    If you can't kill one with a single Heavy 1, you can't kill the other 3. Running a Shield with Brutal Momentum IV and a 77% Damage Modifier without Unarmoured Damage doesn't get me close enough to kill one Scab Bruiser. It takes 3 Bleed ticks to drop it after the attack (83 damage shy - need about 17% more damage, but having a capped Damage Modifier of 80% would only net about 3 more damage - or 5.52 extra damage after all the damage buffs, so about 77 damage short). From what I've seen, Brutal Momentum and Unarmoured Damage will drop one. If you can drop one, Brutal Momentum will carry that same damage to the other 3 if you hit them in the head. I believe the cap of 4 targets is across the board for Brutal Momentum. Hope that helps.

Skullcrusher definitely affects Bleed (don't know about Burn) damage, but only during the timeframe when the enemy is in a staggered state. Your changes to the build I run will work just fine. Mine is specific for my weapons for Modifiers/Perks/Blessings.
