Complete Guide To French Cleats - Beginner's Guide, Locks, Stud Mounting, Tips And Tricks, Holders
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
To answer a lot of questions I made my complete French cleat guide showing how to make your cleats, different mounting options, the science behind the cleats and different tips and tricks along with safety notes when cutting your cleats.
*** correction to the video I have a mistake in what I said was my measurement for cutting down a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood. You achieve 19 cleats and you’ll have a round a one and a half inch scrap piece left over this piece is great to be used for your first rung or your top rung since usually you’re not gonna have a functional cleat there.

@@BitnerBuiltquick question: When you were talking about the spacer blocks and them possibly having imperfect measurements, if one block is slightly shorter/longer then flipping the block wouldn't change the skew. Wouldn't you actually have to switch the blocks from left to right side in order to alternate and thus not exasperate the imperfection/skew?
Just want to say a big Thank You for the Simple 5” 2” settings for ripping the French Cleats it works and so simple to use.

Thanks so very much. no fuss, just the facts, and no attitude. You provide an adult learning opportunity to allow any moron to feel they can do this, and I am a dyslexic moron. Easy, fun, and useful, thanks again. I will return the favor as I build my shop using your ideas and guide, to then share my triumphs and failures, as otherwise I would still be honing a square rock. Cheers Steven

Which one was the top?
For your spacer blocks idea, If you keep your blocks orientation the same and switch them back and forth, move the left side to the right side and vice versa each level it will also cancel out any imperfection.

Awesome thanks Kenny!
As far as your stop blocks, why not just label them one and two with an arrow pointing up so they are always in the same orientation and just switch them back and forth, #1 on the left side for cleat one then number #1 goes on the right side for cleat number two. If the blocks are off at all they will cancel the mistake on every other cleat.
@BitnerBuilt

There’s gonna be a follow up video to this one. Honestly, if you make your stop lock perfect there’s no need to rotate them at all, I was trying to anticipate the comments being left about using stop blocks. I actually just designed a 3-D printed stop block that I’ve been using, which has been working great that I’ll have for free download in the next French cleat video.
I've been wanting to do a French cleat system for a few of years now. Long story short, I bought a sheet of 3/4" plywood and with a circular saw and a Bora track guide, made some cleats and mounted them on my garage wall. Initially, I was very pleased. But I quickly discovered how bad a job I did with my circular saw. So I decided it's time I invest in a table saw and redo my project. In the mean time, I came across your video and it was VERY helpful. I have an old friend that lives hundreds of miles away that is also interested in French cleats but he just can't find the time to do it yet. I retired over a year ago and he's about to retire. So he's kind of depending on me to help guide him and avoid some mistakes I've already made. I've sent him many links of worthy French cleat videos but I told him that he MUST watch this one before proceeding. BTW, I've not seen anyone use the framed foam to hold your hand tools as shown at 31:34. Yeah, I'll be giving that some strong consideration that when the time comes. I've liked and subscribed and expect to spend some hours watching your other videos. Thanks.
