Nice cages. One thing that bugs me about keepers here in the states is the opinion that tiny tubs are big enough.

Thanks! And I agree with you. I’m not for keeping big boas in small racks. I can understand some of the big breeders that keep them in lets say Freedom breeders boa racks, due to space. But I don’t want to keep my animals like that

Just watched this again, and liked it. However, I would recommend a slightly lower temperature on the cool side: about 75 to 76F. My adult boa imperator spends almost all her time on a cool side of 75 to 76F - she rarely uses her basking spot of 85F, for a day or two after feeding. My juvenile hog island boa behaves in a similar way.

Thanks for watching! All boas are individuals and if you have big enough enclosures you can for sure keep a cool end at 75-75°F. But only 85°F for basking spot I feel is a bit on the low side. Especially the big ones will very rarely use it, but I think it's a good idea to offer them at least 90°F as basking spot. But if it works for you and your animals, I won't tell you to change your setup. As mentioned, all animals are individuals and have their own preferred environment

You probably do already. Look into different morphs. Dwarfs might be your area to look if space is an issue.

Hello love your contente👌( am french sory for my english by advance)😉 My first snake is realy crazy all what i gona say next is true ! my first snake " hebi" i get it when she have just 2 or 3 mouth so the day one the snake is realy stressed and make loud noice on my so i handle it just 5 to 10 minute a day for one or tow week max , and one days the snake scrach his noze so so hard for opening the enclosure get his noze injured bad The snake reaaly wan to get out the enclosure ( a veryyy big and and équiped enclosure 😢) so one days i did it am thinking i know how snake work i know what they need so why i dont let my snake be free like a cat or dog so i did it whith one room only. The things i never expected that the snake coming back for poop on the enclosure most of the time ( 80% of the time ) 🤯 So all the équipement be placed on that room ( my bedroom) like heat or water , looking what can be a danger for the snake etc .. I précise that snake realy love interaction realy i NEVeR force my snake to be handle or somthing like that , the snake like just chill on me the days or stay in a place he like but the night or when he decide he com into my bed and stay on my stomach or betwen my legs sleeping all the night that adorable ❤ lot of pepole sayd me he size you before eating you 😂😂 no that not how snake work bro That snake have never bite some one ( one time me but its my fault i wana hand feeding but the snake get my hand and instantly stoped 1sec after see its my hand 😅 that moment my snake be so frustred and dont have event eat the rat ) . And now 5 year laster that same snake who now 2m50 is just like a dog or cat you can do what you wan touch where you wan she is more than okey she love attention ❤ i have one rule when pepole coming into my appartment Let the snake do what she wan to do that the only rule (but its if not safe dont let him you know ). Snake are realy ander estimated 👌 Sory for my loong and certenly usless coment

Changing substrate monthly is silly. Spot clean thoroughly whenever there is poop or urate. Doing a change monthly disturbs the snake, and is very expensive even if one only has a few animals. When I change substrate, I only clean/disinfect water bowls and furnishings if they have urate/poop on them. Snakes that rely mainly on scent recognise their familiar environment quickly if their own pheromones are present when they are placed in their minimally cleaned enclosures. Excessive hygiene is as bad for us as it is for them.

Once a month might be a bit exaggerated, but especially urate you don't always see all, since it can be quite a lot and not visible. As long as you keep your snakes healthy and it works for you, just keep doing what you are doing. I wish you a Happy New Year!

I got my rescue purvan red tail boa in a 8x4x4 home with a fogger to keep humidity up

If it works for you it's fine, but with a good substrate you shouldn't need to have a fogger. And make sure to clean out the fogger system on regular basis, it's a growing ground for bacterias

Kul med fler svenskar 😀 If you have it in a tub, like in a rack system I do underbelly heat, with heat strip/matt, regulated by thermostat. If it's a smaller enclosure, I like to provide a basking spot, but for youngsters I usually have underbelly heat to. Once again, regulated by thermostats. There are aquatic boas as well like Anacondas that require much different care vs. ground or arboreal boas. Red tails are the most common/easiest boas to raise. Just sayin’.

That’s true. This is for ”common boas” not the aquatic or tree boas, that both require different husbandry

@@bl1969 what kind of substrate do you use? You shouldn’t need a fogger to keep the humidity for a boa. It’s also very important, that if you use a fogger, that you clean it regulary because it’s very easy to get a lot of bacterias in the system, which later on leds to respiratory infections on the snake

@@bl1969 If you have access to a store selling acrylic it might be worth checking out how expensive it would be for an acrylic sheet just large enough to fill in the mesh area. Holes can always be drilled for airflow but will be better than the mesh normally

Tubs are not suitable for all of them. I have just taken in a three month old Hog island boa. He is in a 4 x 2 x 3 ft viv. He spends half his time on the branches, the rest of the time hidden, or buried in the substrate. These boas are far more arboreal than most, and need opportunities to climb.
