Hi Dr. Tala. I'm an NNP student and have found your videos so helpful for review! I would love to see a video on coagulopathies in the neonate and interpreting and treating Coag results.

Yes/ we definitely need to do this. We’re all in process of trying to get US certified at our practice here- so in meantime- I need to find a radiologist who would help!! I’ll work on it! Thank you!!!

Could you do a talk on identifying urea cycle disorders in the newborn? Specifically OTC deficiency.

Ooof! That's a tough one! I can definitely speak to identifying a urea cycle or a metabolic disorder- the clinical scenarios when we'd be concerned (symptoms and labs). I would be the first to say that I don't have the urea cycle memorized! But I agree- the important thing is to keep metabolic diseases on our radars and know what to send next (before we call metabolic/ genetic specialists!). Thank you- I will definitely do this!!!

Hello; wonderful channel; could you direct me to a resource of how a good doctor would identify by blood count abnormality (eosinophils, neutrophils, etc) the source of an infection in a preemie? If all the samples came negative for bacteria fungi etc but signs of infections would persist how would a blood count direct us to a probable cause? Thank you!

That’s tough! Often we call it a clinical sepsis if blood and clinical picture is bad but we don’t find source. (About 1/3 time can have meningitis without sepsis). Sometimes we use CRP etc to help although everything is pretty non specific and non sensitive!

Dr. Tala, I was wondering if you have ever worked in NHS as well? Your accent is very British.

I grew up in England until I was 16 and I've moved quite a bit since then- so now it's a really weird mixture, and nobody can quite place where it's from! I get South Africa a lot- even though I've (unfortunately) never been there! I've never worked as a physician in England, sadly! Where are you based?

I am working in England. I have moved a lot as well. Trained in Paediatrics from Pakistan, now working as a Staff grade Paediatrician. Your videos were really helpful when I was finding myself rusty with neonatal concepts. Amazing work.
