Comparison: Sig Sauer Romeo 5 and Romeo-MSR
Product pages: sigsauer.com/products/electro-optics/red-dot-sights/romeo5/
www.sigsauer.com/products/rom...
Prices have changed since my video - currently best MSR price as of 11/3/19 is $119 at Palmetto State, and Romeo 5 is on sale on Primary Arms for $99
At these priceses, Romeo 5 makes a little more sense to purchase, unless you need a sealed sight such as MSR. Though $20 is not much of a difference.

At 20,000 hours you could leave the MSR on for over *two years*. Obviously 40k is better but after a point it almost becomes academic.

Yeah, once you pass about 15K hours, just swap the batteries every New Year's Eve and quit worrying about it. So what if you end up throwing away a battery that still has a bunch of hours left in it? They're a dollar, maybe a dollar and a half apiece!
@PracticalWeapons

Those batteries should be a lot cheaper than that. I buy 12 for $5
@geodkyt

@@PracticalWeapons Yeah, I was being conservative on cost. I'm a cheap bastard myself, and wouldn't pay a buck and a half for a single coin battery. Heck, the reason I love CR123 is I calculated they are actually *cheaper* in the long run than AA batteries, when I took into account how many batteries go dead just waiting around. 😎

Well articulated and thought out presentation. If I feel I need a red dot for home defense, which does not seem pragmatic because the target will be in the same room 10-15 away, I'll just leave the MSR on continually and change the battery every 6 months or year. Again, I appreciate your time spent in making this video, God bless

First, thumbs up. Good breakdown. I like the buttons better than the turret, less to get snagged on things. I use a Romeo 5 XDR. Even smoother, AAA batt, and more options. Came with the riser for my magnifier. For 180 bucks, I love it. The Romeo 5 seems to hold zero better than my friend's MSR as well. Parallax seems a little better too, as it's a bit shorter. But I didn't build his rifle, just mine.
@PracticalWeapons

I looked at xdr recently as well, on sale for about $150 which is not that much more than basic Romeo 5. The battery is a big plus
Thank you for the video! I wonder why the rubber-banded covers on the Romeo5 and other like it, haven't adopted a see-through window on both front & back cover. I'm sure it cost slightly more, but it would be a really nice feature. Before the cover gets scratched up, the see-through would provide quicker acquisition just like what you said about the MSR.

Just purchased an MSR simply because of the green reticle. Romes5 XDR has green or red but where I was shopping didn't have one. I also prefer the dial as opposed to the push buttons. Obviously prices are subject to change, but the msr is currently priced at $100 still, and the 5 is now $25-40 more depending on the source. Makes you think more if the motion awake and common sized battery are worth the extra money.
@PracticalWeapons
4 жыл бұрын
Quite possibly true. Though for me 20K hours is just as good as 50K since I change batteries every year anyway. For use in home defense motion awake - if reliable, is useful, but just keeping the sight on might be less complex. And more complex things break easier :)

It is amazing how green version is easier to see than the red one, for the same price.
2021, the MSR is $92 - $106, and the batteries were easy to find. Personally I prefer the MSR mainly because the covers cannot get lost, and you can shoot without having to flip them or remove them where the cover can be easily lost on the 5.

@@SylentONE if the dot is turned on (hold either button for a few seconds), it will switch to low power "sleep" mode after 2 minutes. After it detects motion, it will instantly come back on to whatever brightness setting it was on before it went to sleep. DJ Oliver Bisquit there’s no specific setting. If it’s on and you leave it on MOTAC will take over and shut it down after a while and turn back on as soon as if moves at all. If you power the optic down it will stay off until you manually turn it back on
I own a romeo 5 and its been superb. I think the romeo 5 is alot more sleek than the msr yet i like the riser mount better on the msr for the weight savings. I just want to know how long will it take for these optics companies to finally listen to the customer? Absolutely not on the LEFT side.. when running a both eyes open optic system, majority of people being right handed, it makes PERFECT sense to put the largest knob on the RIGHT side and not right in the path of the non dominant eye obstructing fov.. 🤨. Infact, Primary Arms newer 25mm red dots have the knob on the left side.. and the reason I will pass on it until they do another generation with the knob on the correct side.

@@RideForLifeCR250R i have to disagree with you in a sense. I understand everything your saying but shooting with both eyes open isnt something everybody does and more times than not i prefer not too. That knob would BARELY obscure any pov but would bring far more benefit and ease of use being on the proper side where you dont have to reach over your optic to adjust it or turn it off and on. For the record im right handed and many people complain of this issue. Not everyone is in a war and needs to train with both eyes open.

Using an uncommon lithium cell is why I didn't buy a Sig Romeo MSR. It's about $85-90 currently, versus $110-130 for the Romeo5. The CR2032 batteries are very common, very cheap, and used all over the place. The most reliable spot to find them is in basically every desktop computer and most key-fobs, many watches, and plenty of other remote controls and pocket-size devices. I'm not worried about shelf life either, as that's advertised as about a decade for typical cells (so in reality, probably 15+ years).
