I can go outside at 3AM, I live in a Conceal Carry state and I always have a 9mm on me, with 3 extra clips. I'm also not afraid of a fight without backup for the same reason. I don't go looking for trouble, but if it happens, I'll be the one still standing.

Lock all windows and doors, get a big dog or if legal, a big cat, like lynx, or/and a gun/melee weapon, cameras, etc for your house. It is serious, you could end up really badly if you don't do everything to protect yourself

On the outrun a tornado, are you talking about on foot or in a car? Because most cars go faster than a tornado, especially on a highway, no cars around, top 100 mph, space to swerve if you need to, I don't see an issue.
