@@shubhamsaini4770 The Xian WS-15 has much higher thrust (180kN) than the previous Shenyang WS-10 engine (or the Russian Saturn AL-31), and will enable extended supercruise as well as thrust vectoring supermaneuverability (as already seen to some extent with J-20s fitted with the WS-10C engine). Additionally, the WS-15 is more fuel efficient. Given the very large internal fuel tanks, these upgraded J-20s will have a huge range and combat radius compared with any Western fighter, as well as outstanding performance.

Haven't they already put some WS-15 in the new J-20s already? I thought they figured everything out recently and it's ready for mass production now which is why China has like 150-200+ J-20 by now.

A valiant effort by China's military industrial complex, I'm not sure if those small advantages would really add up to an overall game, I'm thinking, or at least hoping that equipment reliability and pilot skill would leave them over matched, let's hope we never have to find out!

They are two planes designed for different strategic needs. There is no need to compare which one is better, just like you won't put a Ford F150 and a Dodge Viper together to make comparison. For the US, F22 was designed in the 80s when cold war was intense. They were supposed to put in front line in Europe. The range and fuel capacity are not main focus. For China, breaking through the second chain is in the consideration. A long range and high fuel capacity are necessary. The US has got much better engine technologies, aerodynamic shape is less important then. China doesn't have such powerful engines, a better layout needs to be figured out to compensate. I think both are good planes that meet requirements.

One is an aircraft built and designed from scratch after 100 years of air warfare, one is copy of both ruasian and US Tech which may never see conflict. For anyone that cares we all know the cold war was at its peak late 50's 60's and early 70's not 80's and the FF-22 was designed and built in the 90's 20's long after the collapse of the soviet union and did not enter service until 05 even its predecessor the YF 22 was not released until 90.

@Warlock f 22 perfect? j2o 's sole weakness was engine and that's been dealt with with WS variants approaching maturity.

People should understand that it doesn't matter one bit which of these fighters is slightly superior to the other. This isn't the era of World War 2, where aerial superiority between the opposing powers became a matter of supreme importance. This is the nuclear age- where any conflict between major nuclear powers will be very short.

J-20 will be about 500 in production. 200 by the end of the 2022 years end.

China rather have much longer range and combat range than super cruise fast for no reason. No point being fast if you can't even make it to the fight because it's out of your combat range without aerial refuelling which will just get picked off and reveal your whole operation.

The new J-20 have double seated jet engine. Overall, performances and cost, J-20 is the better option compares with F-22.

The stealth coatings can't withstand the temps at those speeds. What they can do and what they will do is different. Their speeds are most certainly restricted.

Being a former Air Force Airman, I have to say that I am bias to the F-22 but I think both jets are formidable in their own right.

That's all great China but it's all worthless considering the upcoming Columbia class subs along with many other advanced weaponry will wipe any country out with little effort. So good luck , it's insulting trying to compare the two militaries when you look at them as a whole.

Both beautiful jets. I would say however it will come down to which one falls apart while flying full speed. This I am sure will be the Chinese jet. I am sure they will have cut back on something but apart from that amazing jet

Sorry but in reality usa and F22 has never been tested in war vs a modern peer adversary who has various advantages over you like having double your combat and ferry range, having longer air to air missile range, faster top speed(so China can theoretically play hit and run since it has both the speed and the range to play such games, both combat range and also air to air missile range). Also, considering that J-20 is like 2 decades newer, it would also have all the benefits that 2 decades of advances in science would bring to things like electronic systems, avionics, targeting and detection systems, and most importantly, networking and information warfare systems. Like every J-20 can be networked and see the big picture, while F22 is basically flying blind. J-20 is a smartphone while F22 is like an old Nokia banana phone. There's no comparison in the technologies lz sensors and other hardware on board. I don't care how advanced your 90s tech was. It's still 90s tech and a cheap smartphone right now would be 1000x faster than an expensive desktop computer from the 90s.. it's like comparing ms dos or Windows 3.1 systems running on 90s hardware to current day OS running on current day hardware. So it's not just the hardware itself but also the software written specifically to make the most of the newest and best hardware.

Empty box and a computer is not the same. J20 has not been tested anywhere so no one knows the capability.

F22 has never been tested either. It's only shot down one weather balloon in its whole service life. And did it badly too lol. So in terms of being tested in combat vs a modern peer adversary, no one knows. F22 supposedly has a smaller RCS, but J-20 has much greater range and also the range for J-20s PL-15/PL-17 air to air missiles is much greater than anything the F22 can use. Also in conflict they won't be fighting alone and F22 probably won't be used in any conflict inside first island chain because it's not carrier capable and combat range is too lacking. USA knows it cannot do aerial refueling inside first island chain, the refueller and awacs will all get picked off instantly. Even carriers cannot get within combat range for their jets without putting itself at risks too high for it to take. So usa carriers would probably have to sit in second island chain or even further back. even Guam is not safe and a huge target. China will trade its artificial islands for Guam anyday. And any bases inside first island chain will be destroyed in the first counter volley after USA attacks China's military when China is just fighting a to finish a 100 year civil war and minding its own business under international law since Taiwan is a province of China and PRC/CCP is recognized as the one and only legitimate government of all one China which includes Taiwan. This is the UN, US, Japanese, Philippines, India and basically every country in the world's official position. So an attack against mainland China or PRC forces when China has not and does not plan on attacking USA makes USA the aggressor if it attacks China first. USA does not have a defense treaty with Taiwan either so that makes it even worse. They attacked China and had no obligation to. What's even worse is if China landed on Taiwan, and USA were to bomb Taiwan and kill Chinese soldiers, that would be seen as an attack against China proper. Same as if China bombed Hawaii basically. Except Taiwan is much more bigger and important and richer than Hawaii. Its like if Hawaii has a silicon valley and was the only company in the world that could produce enough critical components like semiconductors for this current and future information/digital/electric era.

requirement of a 5th Gen, does J20 satisfy that? Radar on forward Indian bases picked them many times..that in itself will knock out J-20 by F22 easily..which Jet is better is never judged on such youtube videos..even during aerodynamic simulation I had to wait for 3days just to get one data point on K2 supercomputer which is currently the worlds fastest..so you can never judge a much Complex fighter jets in such simple rudimentary way

J 20, with its canards, which greatly amplify its RCS, is not a stealth fighter. If it is a stealth fighter, then ALL fighter jets in the world are considered stealth fighters. It is an almost 4th generation fighter with very weak engines and can only carry a very limited quantity of weapons.

One thing that you MUST take into account is the Defense Industry is heavily based on Dazzle Baffle and Bull. What I mean is quite simple terms; overrate your adversary to the maximum to ensure you have a job. Worked in the Military for 2 decades and observed this personally, and it really makes sense. What occurs is Defense Contractors are tasked with evaluating the abilities of an adversary weapons system, or a Military Intelligence Agency is funded to gather and sort out information on that system. If the system is evaluated as not so great suddenly the funding is sent elsewhere. So it simply is you tell Ceaser what Ceaser wants to hear, the adversary has a top-notch credible threat platform that mandates more research to find a flaw. Then we must build a counter to this system. For example, Russian Mig-25, we painted it 10' tall and bulletproof, Soviet Tanks were far superior to anything the West Fielded, Superior Soviet Naval Vessels which by far outclassed anything of the West. All of these turned out to be absolutely FALSE. Now adversaries that we are not concerned about will always be underrated and ignored, so often they have been the far greater threat. Japan at the onset of WWII, dismissed their Navy as a marginal military force, the Zero was a bamboo kite with a big engine, they didn't have a working torpedo, Pearl Harbor was a safe harbor due to the shallow depths and so on. Underestimating an adversary is also dangerous. We need to review the pieces of the puzzle as they are and not which piece will provide the most funding for our interests presently to get the job done. Military Intelligence is the second oldest profession on the planet and has less scruples.

It all comes down to skill and experience of the pilot.. we can compare all you want but it's ultimately the pilot who can maneuver the jet the best.

This is true - but we're not comparing pilots here, that is entirely pilot to pilot dependent. The video is about jets, not people. Obviously, the J20 is superior in specs, not to mention cost efficient. Chinese are known copycats and would steal better features and come up with their own. This is the result.

There's a lot to be said about how close the aircraft are, the tradeoffs in design, the potential of advances to the j-20 with the new engine and vectored thrust. It's still catching up to the capabilities of the f-22, but unfortunately they are generations behind the flight programs and skills of American pilots. Too many people put their merit in the tool and not the pilot. There is no substitute for experience and there's also 195 f-22 and only 50 j-20.

Only 176 f-22s were built. Did you build another 19 for the USAF in your garage? The F-22 is extremely difficult to maintain, its hangar must be thermostatic, and its stealth coating technology is outdated and easily peeled off. After a series of crashes, hurricanes, etc., I doubt there are more than 100 F22s available now. Under the latest concept of air combat, the most important element of the aircraft is the information capability, f22 is already far from being a match for F35 and J20, those who are still comparing fighter capability with 1VS1 dogfight mentality, I suggest you update your knowledge immediately.

@@leonzarc4345 The J-20 should really be considered a 4++ generation aircraft, as it's stealth capability is still far behind that of the F-22. J-20's stealth is useful only in the forward quadrant, while the F-22 is an all aspect stealth aircraft. (The J-20's RCS has been equated to that of an F/A-18F Super Horner in clean configuration.) In addition, the J-20 is not as maneuverable as the F-22, having a smaller wing area, greater wing loading and a lack of thrust vectored engines. Even worse for the J-20....there has been a flying prototype of the 6th generation NGAD fighter undergoing testing for over a year.

Not sure if all critical metrics were covered but some of them (e.g. range, ceiling, load) spell one for one dominance. Of course there's a number of ancillary mitigants/countermeasure supports the U.S. can leverage (air-to-air refuling; aircraft carriers; regional bases)

actually all your numbers description on either jets are wrong since both aircrafts are top secret.

On paper the J20 looks like the better plane, but I have many miscellaneous items around my house that say "Made in China" on them that clearly don't stand up in quality or workmanship to the comparable "Made in USA" items. So I would still pick the F-22 over the J20, despite the paper comparison. ;-)

@JCG Thewordis I certainly hear what you're saying. That was really a bad comparison on my part, as my comparison was much more on private company product manufacturing in different countries. But like you eluded to, the government contracted R&D/Thinktanks are much more better funded. My view on Russian made technologies is not as optimistic as yours but that could be misconstrued by media and propaganda, as I'm certain every country does their own flavor of public manipulation. I just try my best to keep an open mind. 🙂

Are you out of your mind ? There is no comparison between a true 5th generation fighter and a 4++ generation fighter. The J-20 is almost stealthy, the Indians don't believe it's even almost stealthy. Forward mounted canards renders the J-20 very visible on the F-22's radar...so the engagement happens before the J-20 even knows the F-22 is anywhere near it. The F-22 fires an AIM-120 which will independently acquire, track and destroy the J-20 without it ever "locking on" to the F-22....Game Over. Thanks for playing.

the J-20's engines cannot sustain 2100km/hr as displayed here. It can barely break Mach 2. Im sure the F-22 can exceed Mach 2.25- its proclaimed top speed albeit at the expense of its stealth coating. I think it should be capable of at least Mach 2.5 +.

None of the specifications for stealth features were mentioned. The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor has far superior stealth capabilities than other jets like Russia's Su-57. I am 100% sure that the Chengdu J-20 Mighty Dragon also has superior stealth abilities than the Su-57. However, I would love to know how it compares to the F-22 Raptor.

There is little difference between f35, f22 and j20 in stealth. Relatively speaking, the avionics of the f35 and j20 are more advanced than that of the f22. The functions of the f35 and j20 are different. The j20 exists as an air superiority fighter. The F35 exists as the systematic combat node of the multi-purpose fighter, and its real opponent is the j35. As for su57, it is the garbage of generation 4.5 and cannot be used as a topic of discussion

Without knowing the ultimate secrets for both but fully understanding the 80% of both to choose one, since the J20 is at least 10 years newer of high tech design I would choose the j20. Both great but one is better than the other

That’s actually a negative, they’ve had less time to test and perfect the “newer technology”. It takes a long time to perfect these aircraft and the F22 was perfected at the time but it’s be decommissioned for a while now.

@@James_Edward59 unfortunately it's been decommissioned because we have total idiots that make these decisions in the Pentagon and they chose to stuff their pockets and pillow cases with lobbyist money and I care about the nation's security or superiority at one time which no longer exists as we seen in Ukraine and we're left with a karate almost irrelevant F-35 that no enemy fears and nobody wants to fly and it is the largest screw up and worse decision in the history of the US pentagon the people that had the signing power to make that decision to go forward with it should be in prison

If there exist any Russian technology in J-20 that means this jet is crap of aluminum.

its all academic as the true capabilities of the F-22 are in fact still classified. That being said what we do know is that a single F-22 took out a squad of F-15's which to this day are still undefeated in combat. SO yeah good luck to anyone crazy enough to try and take on the F-22.

Same with J-20. No one knows anything for real on J-20 apart from what the gov reveals. And that is probably not the truth but probably an underestimate of it's abilities.

In previous years how the world laughed at the j20.....but now with its upgraded WS10 engines and nearly double combat radius capabilities the only area left for Chinese to catch up on is outright pilot skills........it won't be long I'm sure! 🤷

@@williamfieldsjr4144 Whether it's aerodynamic shape, engine working principle, avionics system, weapon mount, and strategic use, the J20 is different from any known 5th-generation U.S. stealth fighter. The only DSI intake structure that is the same as the F35 is currently used by the vast majority of stealth fighters around the world, it just like an airplane has two wings, you can't say it's plagiarism or reverse work. BTW, you may not know how difficult it is to reverse engineer a high-tech weapons platform, and in fact due to technology blockade, China cannot get any Western high-tech weapons as prototypes for development. SO, you should really study hard at school, good luck

They and Russia both are still having issues developing the engines to give the plane the expectated performance numbers. Maybe you’re misinformed or mislead but basically what happened was “Russia and China said fuck it, until we get the engine we want built, throw the best thing we can in it for now and send it cause we need a combat ready 5th gen competitor to the raptor”

in order to claim to be an "air superiority fighter" you absolutely MUST have a gun, otherwise it's just a strike plane, no two ways to look at it. And also, in order to be considered a "stealth" aircraft, the plane must have an RCS of > .005sm, the J-20 does not.

The real question is how long can the Chinese jet engine work before it has to be overhauled? The last time I looked into it, the Chinese jet engines had to be serviced every 10 flight hours.

J-20 Empty Weight is 15000kg instead of 17000kg now. J-20 has AESA radar with 2200 T/R module, maximum power 100kw, F-22 has AESA radar with 1956 T/R module, maximum power 16.4kw. J-20 has PL-15 air-to-air missile, with maximum operational range 200km, F-22 has AIM-120D air-to-air missile, with maximum operational range 160km

The radar on J-20 looks good on paper but it is probably inferior to F-22 and especially F-35. PL-15 is not proven in combat and everything is speculations. AIM-120 on the other hand is combat proven and upgraded according to previous experience so it is probably superior in range to PL-15

He also said that the Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS was insufficient for timely detection of J-20. After that, the U.S. military decided to retire 33 F-22s, reduce purchases of 33 F-35s, retire 15 E-3s, and retire 25 EA-18G Growlers. As I knew F-22 radar APG-77 power 20kw peak, it has 1956 T/R modules, F-35 radar APG-81 has 1676 T/R modules, its power should be around 17kw, but according to China state media J-20 radar power is 100kw. It has 2200 T/R modules. If you look at the ratio of power vs T/R modules, J-20 radar most likely uses GaN technology already. According to US military official news, F-22 and F-35's radar didn't use GaN technology, it's still GaAs technology. On April 29, 2021, Raytheon Intelligence & Space delivered the APG-79(V)4 AESA radar prototype to US Marine Corps, powered by gallium nitride (GaN), the APG-79(V)4 is the first domestic implementation of a GaN-based fire control radar, with GaN Transmit/Receive Modules embedded directly into the array.

Absolutely no evidence that J-20 has better radar and it is even ridiculous to even believe that because America is by far the best in the industry. So there is no evidence to believe that and I don't believe that.

@@napobg6842 It is not difficult to simulate the encounter between the J-20 and KJ-500 over the East China Sea and the F-35 and E-3. It is still not difficult to deduce some facts from what USAF Admiral Wilsbach is hard to say. If KJ-500 didn't detect and track F-35, Admiral Willsbach would never say he is interested in KJ-500's long-range kill chain. There would be no way he even knew it existed. It's impossible for a USAF general to talk about something purely imaginary in public. Furthermore, if it's not because of China Air Force, US military should never retire it's 33 F-22 and 15 E-3 and cut the 33 F-35 order, because all those should be invincible beings on the earth, especially only 31 E-3s worldwide are already in short.

@@ronaldwang9838 Just because he is interested doesn't mean F-35 was tracked. The order cut for F-35 is due to hardware changes. F-22 is already too late. The jet is expensive to maintain and operate because it was cut early from production. And E-3 is kinda old and also being replaced

What is there to compare with the F-22 whc has been relegated to the store room due to its untenability.

I would have died of shock if Chinese plane won. But considering the vast amount of money spent, it's to be expected. Respect to the Chinese plane for even being compared. They have come a long way in a short time. In another decade judging by their development, things can turn around. The US is unlikely to outbuild the Chinese in the long run because they can build anything comparable at an eighth to one fifth the cost! And they're now churning out world class engineers by the millions.

Will take a experience pilot in a slightly less performing aircraft any day of a week versus a lesser unexperienced pilot in a plane that's technically better on paper.

I’m sure they are both continually being upgraded!

If these stats are accurate, (unlikely), the range issue could be problematic. However, when it comes down to “who wins”, the single most important factor is the pilot. Has the US been recruiting and producing the best combat pilots in the last couple of years?

The single most important factor is NOT the pilot. Modern warfare depends on 1 thing, and 1 thing only. Combined Arms warfare. That means Army, Navy, Airforce and most importantly Intelligence gathering. In this regard, the USA is dominating by a mile, simply because they spend more and have the technological edge over everybody else. Your pilots can be the best in the world, they will get destroyed against an enemy with more numbers, better tech and more capabilities.

I like the J-20 but it doesn’t remotely hold a candle to my favorite fighter the F-22 Raptor in combat. The J-20 can’t even thrust vector plus an exposed nozzles makes it a big IR signature compared to the F-22 ‘buried’ nozzles plus it also a bigger target because it’s almost 10 feet longer.

So, which is the best?

The F-22 Raptor helmets can help the pilot to "see" 360 degrees (back, front, below and above) without having to look through the window. That is a huge advantage over J-20 pilot. Also, the F-22 radar can detect enemy plane as far as 80 or more miles. The J-20's radar...I don't know. Many of you are saying that J-20 is more superior than the F-22, but you don't know the F-22's pilot skills which is far more important. Look at Russian fighter pilots, they spent about 3 hours of training each month, maybe a lot less than that because they could not afford to keep their planes in flying condition (they are trying to keep their planes in "low mileage". The F-22 pilots are very well trained, at least 8 hours per month in flying. They are very disciplined. Maintaining their F-22s aren't the problem (they can replace engines). Pilot skills are important. Fighter planes maintenance are important. Also, the technology are important as well. The F-22's network are connected to AWACS, ground-based radar and satellites. Not sure about the J-20's capabilities? Do they communicate with other fighters, ships, etc? I don't know. Keep in mind, we have 10 Navy aircraft carriers operating around the world. The Russia's aircraft carrier (is a total joke), they have only ONE that is in operation and is spewing so much black smoke in the sky (the U.S. Navy aircraft carriers are powered by nuclear, they have UNLIMITED range). China has only one aircraft carrier, too. So, which country (USA, Russia and China) have the best military in the world? the answer is... USA.

Not yet. But that’s the purpose of the two seat variant. It is still at an airframe testing stage. According to its chief designer, this can go quite quickly as J-20 was initially designed with 2 seater variants in mind.

@@napobg6842 For what? Two-seater does exist, confirmed with photos. The back seat definitely has too little forward vision to serve as a trainer. As for the purpose of the two seater, that’s taken from a Chinese interview of the chief designer. Drone is a long term inspiration. Short term it is going to be used as squad command. It’s the same with many two seater version of the flanker family. The 2nd seat is not weapons or radar. Chinese believe that lone pilot can’t handle the work load of both flying and lead on squadron tactics. They believe the American F35 squadron would leave too many important decisions to AI.

The Americans may have a slight leg up where their drones just took off and landed autonomously, but that’s about it. If anything, China has the largest drone company in the world in DJI. Besides, there is a reason why aspiration is call d aspiration:

Pretty similar, but I'd put my bet on the F22 for the simple reason that USA pilots get more in-the-air flight time training (and some combat experience) in their aircraft than a Chinese pilot would (AFAIK, and don't even think about a Russian pilot beating a USA pilot!). A little over the top comparison, but its like pulling a person off the street, giving them some driving instruction on handling an F1 or Indy race car, then putting them on a track to compete with an experienced F1/indy car driver.

Few years ago aviation enthusiasts were still underestimating the J-20 and making fun of it. Today however, no one is taking the J-20 as a joke anymore. With the new engine on the J20 and the world first ever 2 seater stealth variant of it being developed, it's no lie that China has done an amazing job of catching up to the West.

More like copying the west, we know where their tech comes from, stolen from the US and bought from the Russians.

The J20 is a 4.5 gen fighter. The Chinese were trying to steal the lathes from the US, but luckily they were thwarted. The J20 can't supercruise and is only stealthy from the front. The F22 would have already fired on the J20 before the Chinese pilot would even know if it was there.

F22 or USA has never had a air fight vs an advanced, modern, peer adversary like china. Has USA seen 1000 stealth jets and been in a fight? Never. F22 has never even got one kill except vs a stationary weather balloon and that was even embarrassing to watch. If it was a spy balloon as they claimed and they were gonna shoot it down in the end, why did they even let it enter US airspace and fly around for days/weeks instead of taking it down as soon as it crossed into the US air space. or even earlier if air space has the same rules as the ocean, like you get 12nm out to sea from your coastline as a buffer zone I guess. It probably was because back then 12nm was more than enough to keep out of range of cannonballs and also to stop them from doing a landing and invading for real.

No it can’t lol. It can’t go faster yet (key word yet) and it currently does not carry more. I don’t remember the numbers off the top of my head we’re not talking about a 2:1 difference, either way, but it’s something along the lines of raptor can carry 8 , j 20 6 internally or something caparable to those numbers. People are misunderstanding information and there’s a lot of misinformation being fed…
