Comparing ZT Hinderer 0562 Ti to Hinderer XM-18 side by side. Hinderer vs. Hinderer

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Thanks ‪@NeevesKnives‬ for cluing us in to the XM-18 Batch!
Are you one of my viewers who are on the fence as to which version of the Hinderer design to pick: Zero Tolerance 0562 by KAI, or the original Hinderer Knives XM-18?
Here's all you need to know to make the call in one video! I purchased both of them at my own expense because I am unaffiliated reviewer, the only way my channel produces any revenue is through advertisements placement and the Amazon links to my favorite finds on Amazon below. Thank you for subscribing, liking, sharing and revisiting my content! I wish you and Yours a Happy and Prosperous 2024!

Right. Neevesknives provided the link from which I bought this knife. I think metal complex had it too. Getting people to buy knives from affiliated links is not what I do on my channel. But I’m thankful to the guys who do.

The 0562ti is my edc and i love it and i would not change it to an xm18 just because im not in to knifes with different scales 😅. For me the 0562ti is my all time favorite but my new Bailout is in the mail so we will se if its still when it arrives.

I would be disappointed if you found the Bailout of all things to be better than the 0562. It's a nice piece, the aluminum variant but not quite iconic.

Just a little work on the detent hole/ramp, with a diamond pen, and the 562 will easily deploy via the stop pins. Just be very patient and careful, for anyone who attempts it! Baby steps! You can’t undo it, if you remove too much. To be honest, it took me a period of a few months, and probably 5 disassembly’s, to achieve the perfect balance between the flipper detent and the *thumb stud* detent.

  • @CuttingBoardRx

I appreciate the suggestion! I may look into replacing the thumb studs with the stepped cone style like on XM-18 first. That would do the trick, I’m 90% sure 👌

I had a chance to grab a used Shiro at Nations gun show this weekend, but passed up in order to get an inlaid large Sebenza and a one of a kind CKF Malyshev/Bondarenko Baugi colab. Both just too good to pass up over a standard Shiro…

@@CuttingBoardRx CKF is just an overly expensive Chinese brand to lead customers to believe they’re made in Russia. Made by Kevin John who is well known for making clones and counterfeit knives. A inlaid Seb or a CKF aren’t in the same ballpark as the Shirogorov’s I have. They’re on another level compared to all of the higher end production knives IMO.

I think it's possible that the designer put the grooves on the flipper so that it helps with traction when the knife is open and you're choked up on the finger choil... Right?

Possible! Especially if you’re pulling the blade out of the dead man’s rib cage! I bet that’s what the designer was imagining

About screws. It is doubtful for me that it was produced from titanium. Many kinds of stainless steel are not magnetic at all. I guess that it was used for screws, because titanium will be too soft for screwdriver contact. About knife - I like both of them. ZT has one bad moment - steel bearing, because it is pretty old model, now even cheap Chinese knives offer ceramic bearing. And generally - thanks for your content. I have discovered your channel recently, but I am very glad to meet man with high level of understanding and without all this advertisement garbage. And thanks again for your English - it is clear even for not native speaker like me :) Happy New Year! Many new knives and reviews :)

Thanks for your kind words and I’m happy to be of help! The small screws are totally available in Ti, just check the boat load available for the most popular knives like Bugout and Para 2 & 3 They usually are anodized in various colors but any and all coatings and finishes are available to a manufacturer like ZT. The recommended torque for T8 screw is only 10-12 inch-pounds so it won’t matter that Ti is softer than steel. Think of how much more ductile the aluminum is and then think how many knives have steel screws threaded into the aluminum frame. If you use an assertive expression like “it is doubtful to me…” it sounds like you’re disagreeing with the other person. Instead, try using a question like “do you think they might have used a low ferrous content stainless for the screws rather than Ti?” To which I would say no, such stainless is as soft as the Ti and twice as expensive than the kind that’s magnetic. These grades are used in chemical vessels, food prep machinery, salt water equipment etc.

@@CuttingBoardRx thanks for answer. So, you are sure, that most factory screws for main brands (Benchmade, Spyderco, ZT, etc.) are produced from titanium? Or it is about only about some anodized screws?

@@CuttingBoardRx - own several hinderers - I'm pretty sure the factory hardware is all steel; however, and as you're probably aware, titanium hardware is available for purchase (except the pivot nut) or included on hinderer special configurations. But I am pretty sure the base models come from factory with steel hardware despite not being magnetic. Overall, I am a fan of the channel. thank you

Only reason I like to carry the hinderer tip down is because of the lockbar cut out when carried tip up my pants gets snagged when pulling the knife out and it makes it way easier to slide it in and out when not dealing with the lockbar cut out.
