Comparing the failure of different materials
Ғылым және технология
Fracture is the separation of a body into 2 or more pieces due to stress. Fracture occurs differently in different materials! In some cases, it might shatter into many pieces, while in others it might break into just two. In some cases, the fracture occurs via spontaneous crack propagation, while in others stress must be continuously applied to continue crack propagation. Some materials will deform first, others tolerate no strain. Flaws, like surface or internal cracks can drastically change the probability of fracture and failure. We show this with some examples of ceramics, plastics, and metals.

You are a gem to engineering student. I'm a bioengineering/chem major and this is so useful. Thanks

I love hearing this type of feedback!!
I'm in an MSE intro class that's kicking my ass right now, but these explanations make it so much easier to understand the concepts. Turns out materials science is really interesting and fun once I understand it haha thank you for these videos you're a lifesaver 🙏
