I love my SPC and the structural cummerbund but sometimes I do wish it had 3 levels to molle. Makes putting in my issued side plate pouches and issued mag pouches seem somewhat awkward with one level of molle being unused

I did the buckle mod on my avs mbav pretty easy if you own a sewing machine. $20 for a buckle off of austriaplin another $10 for a roll of milspec 2" webbing and another 10ish for some hook and loop. Takes about 20 minutes to make. Personally I rather enjoy my avs my only really gripe is the lack of padding or ventilation so when you wear it for 12 to 18 hour shifts you wind up sweating pretty bad. I also run mine without the harness system. I typically run a mayflower lpac for patrol but if I'm picking up a shift or on a special assignment I rock the avs.

If I remember.. the velcro inside the cummerbound was to go along with Crye's "smart pouch" series. Where they have openings on the back that can "slide" into the cummerbound and then velcro at the desired location, as an alternative to molle them in. You were pretty harsh on the AVS, it's got issues and some comments are totally warranted... but it's pretty much designed to be run with the harness. not running it makes it like a jpc... but worse.. defeats the whole purpose. You can setup the AVS harness to be as fast as the SPC to put on and off, in almost the same fashion as the SPC. The SPC is an evolution of both that came before it into a slim and ultra-lightweight design. It's better than the JPC for sure.. and for I guess.. light to medium weight should be ok but for heavy stuff... I would trust the AVS with the harness. I also heard multiple times the issue of the blowout at the shoulders, it's a long-running issue. Each of those systems has its uses in various scenarios and mission needs. Keep in mind they were also designed many years apart. I respect your experience but I don't agree with all points.

I appreciate your input and thoughts, we all have our own personal preferences on body armor. Whether we agree or disagree. I think we both can agree all three systems are great plate carriers regardless of their individual designs and issues. We just want to shed some light on all three systems and talk about the shared comments, likes, dislikes, and frustrations the SOF community has with these systems to help guys figure out what system will be better suited for their individual needs, missions, operational environments, and duty positions. That said after running all of these systems since their public and military release dates. I don't think running the AVS without the harness makes it "worse" than the JPC. In all honesty most of the guys I know have stated it makes the plate carrier more comfortable by shedding the harness and its weight, and when it comes to the light, medium, and heavy weight argument again I disagree. For one you shouldn't be loading a ton of weight on any plate carrier it will slow you down and that poses a lot of follow-on hazards and risks. At the end of the day, all three plate carriers are overt plate carriers. The SPC is the only one that has the ability to bleed into low-vis/concealable work. I've ran all three carriers with the same load-out and configuration, and all three handled four to six mags, mission essential equipment, and fully loaded back panels and comms equipment without issue. Since this video I've known of 10 - 15 guys in the SOF community that have purchased their own SPC Plate Carriers and shelved their AVS and JPC plate carriers for the remainder of their careers.

Just as an alternative opinion, in terms of load carriage and comfort, the AVS has been better than any other carrier I’ve tried. Including the SPC, Shaw Arc, etc
