Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands and makers as well as the collectors!
In this channel, I will give information found in my research about the brand, the construction, and the materials, but I will express my personal opinions about how I feel about the boots reviewed.

    CF Stead do offer an "Original Waxy Commander" and a "Soft Waxy Commander". They also offer a " Desert Oasis Wax" leather with a long nap and a "Waxed Rough Out" which is a reverse suede. I'll leave it to you to work which is on which boot 🙂.

    Teik, your videos are fun - and quite educational. Thank you. I just purchased a pair of Thursday Captain Coyote Tan Waxed Roughout. I thought waxed roughout boots are for wearing hard and required no care; however, applying wax and blow dryer seems labor intensive. Learning about all that, I'm not sure if I'll keep them now 🤔

    Great video, very informative! Waxed suede is really great. It doesn't go very well with formal outfits or suits, but it fits pretty much anywhere else and looks better the more you wear it. I have a pair of ebony colored waxed suede chukka boots and it's like at least three shoes in one. Can't unfortunately buy endless amount of shoes or boots for different occasions in this economy, so they're godsent.

    Do you find that the ebony color has lightened up a bit with wear?

  • @eero2973

    @eero2973

    @@RoyalFizzbin I haven't had them for very long so I can't accurately estimate how the color evolves in the long run. However, I think they may have been a little bit on the lighter side after wearing them for a while. I applied a little bit of Saphir Dubbin grease to the boots and it darkened them slightly. I was aware of the effect before application, but personally I don't mind the darker and more polished look. Apart from the possible color changes, the leather itself gets scuffs and marks here and there with wear. This seems to be by design, but the worn down look can be reduced with shoe care products (like the dubbin grease). I think all of this adds to the versatility, because you can have the boots looking either rugged or nicer depending on how you want to wear them. I personally want to keep them looking a little bit nicer for now, but maybe as they age I let them look a little bit scruffier.

    Nice video. Grant Stone offers a waxed roughout called Dark Oak from Stead. It is a thick, hearty, heavy waxed but gets very nappy with highs and lows. It is my favorite leather GS offers and quite different from their Earth leather.

    This was very informative and well-presented (as usual). As you say, Teik, your videos are quite fun. I know that when I click the mouse on the Mac or touch the iPhone for one of your videos, I'm going to learn something about a topic I'm sure to like. It's nice to get something for free that's so enjoyable. I'll say it again: focused, organized, informative, engaging. The best of KZread for this type of stuff. Did you stay out of trouble with your local OSHA director for using the hairdryer, by the way?

    @@alltherezechaj I’d probably first try to clean the suede. Dampen the spot and blot with clean cloth to pull up as much grease as possible. Then when dry, use a suede eraser on the spot to remove dry residue. Then use a suede shampoo on the spot. Let dry, brush with suede brush. Clean up with suede eraser and brush again. It won’t be 100% but should be a lot better.

    I would like to let you know that this video is directly responsible for me pulling the trigger to get an order of a wanes boot in rames waxed suede in their summer opening. Bordon stated on their facebook that the Rames suede is a shrunken waxed suede but based on the pictures available it doesn't look like it has waxy layer on it like their medium and dark brown waxy. Oh well, I'll see when I get it, I was hoping I can eventually turn it into something like a natural waxy commander. I was hoping to buy less this year. So far bordon makes my third purchase this year.

    I’m not at all sure but I think when they say it’s a shrunken waxed suede, it’s more like Rambler rather than Waxy Commander.

  • @cheekibreeki9155

    @@Bootlosophy Yes it does look like that. I predict that after a few years of wearing it, I'll most probably dub it up due to my tropical living conditions once the waxed suede's original waterproof characteristics degrade. It is the one reason I've put off buying anything in suede for such a long time. I was actually also interest in Bordon's W&C harness in natural, but their roughout configuration for the tongue in Wanes boot killed my interest and Bordon was probably not going to be able to answer questions about customizing 2 hours before the orders closed.

    Hiking boot. But anything that is tough and supporting, not too heavy, suited to the weather, and has a good outsole but enough cushion to soften some of the impact.
