Mistakes in my work used to cripple me! Then I read that Navajo weavers purposely put a mistake in their work because only God is perfect. Now when I spot something small, I call it my Navajo mistake. That has helped me tremendously! I loved seeing your first sweater! I gave it A+. You did the best you knew how to do. I hope you keep that sweater forever!

Learning about that was what also made me be less harsh on myself whenever I made a mistake. Sometimes, it is good to take a step back and enjoy all the hard work you've put into a project. 😌

I used to stress about mistakes in my knitting until I was told about an old knitter's superstition that mistakes allow bad energy to escape that would otherwise be trapped in the stitches. 😅 On a more practical note, I've embraced that the nature of handmade garments is to have mistakes. It adds to the charm and it always teaches you something. 💖

This reminds me of my excitement in my first two scarves I made. And now, although I love knitting, I feel there's so much in my future knit wishlist that I'm forgetting some of that magic in my own accomplishments. No matter how long they take, I need to come back to being more present and grateful.

Many of the videos I have watched are way way beyond my skills. I like your videos because the patterns are lovely but also accessible.

I appreciate this episode very much. Your thoughts at the beginning of the episode about our knits not having to be fancy or intricate, but some thing that we hand make and are proud of, really hit home for me. I always feel the pressure to keep up with the new trends, the new constructions, etc., but my heart is really in Classic constructions and classic knits. and I have been knitting since 2004. Off and on……

Absolutely loved this video concept! I can definitely relate to a lot of the points you made. I just finished blocking my Marysia Cardigan and it's my first textured garment. Blocking made the sleeves grow to a point that they completely covered my hands. I was really upset, but I've spent this afternoon shortening them and it's reminded me how I will always make mistakes and that's okay. I have the skills to be able to fix them now :)

My first projects were simple scarves when I was 12. I wore them to school, despite it being perfectly warm out! I was soooo proud of them. I'm currently very nearly done with a No frills sweater, I have about 12 more rows then the cuff. It's my third one, and it's crazy to me how different my knitting has been in just 2-3 years. I'm better about getting gauge, I know more about fibers, I did a few things to close up the armholes before weaving the ends in, I'm shortening the sleeves, and I decided to do a tubular bind off for this one. I feel like a lot of growing as a knitter is getting those details sorted out.

This reminds me of my first knitted jumper, also way too big but so extremely proud I was wearing it! The art of making something yourself is just so much fun :) thanks for the video, happy Monday!

One thing that has really helped me when it comes to being proud of what you make, Retro Claude's "good, better, best" has really helped me. Go for good, not best. Anything above good is a bonus. Yes, my sweater is good and that's enough. It doesn't have to be the best thing I've ever made.

Such a beautiful video idea, thank you for sharing the encouragement! My first sweater is lovingly called my „bat wing“ sweater because it‘s huge with almost triangular sleeves, because I started the sleeves with way to many stitches. :D But I‘m actually very proud of it, because I didn‘t use any pattern (had no idea ravelry existed). I used a youtube video with instructions on how to calculate your own raglan stitch counts.

Arthur’s sweater is a beautifully done garment. I love it.

Great idea for a podcast Bethany! One of the first garments I made was a sweater from WAK and my tension was SO tight that after I seamed it I couldn’t even get it over my head. As in, not even close. There was no saving it. However it taught me a lot and so when I made my next WAK too it was near perfect and I have kept it just so I can look back on it and see how far I’ve come. You are inspiring me to also record an episode on my last knits 😊

I also leave ends just hanging on the inside of the garment, unless I am making it for someone else then I weave them in. Same thing with blankets.

Wow, I use knitting as a check up point for my energy levels :D If I don't knit I know something is happening. I just checked my YT playlists and it shocks me that I have 255 socks there and I think I knit only 32 garments. I have the same thing in regards popular patterns I don't join and then if ever I do I am so many many years behind :))))

I remember making a ribbed jumper when I was about 12. I wish I still had it but I'm um mid 60's. I still make mistakes x
