I think the Tony Hawk games would be perfect for this series. I was floored when I found out they were still making PS1 ports all the way through Tony Hawk 4. Tony hawk 3 crosses platforms between PS1/N64 and the original Xbox. Plus with weird quirks that change the level graphics and characters exclusive to certain devices.

The GameCube version of Tony hawk 3 looks the worst of the 6th gen consoles, yet it also is the only one with icicle effects besides the pc. Interesting stuff

They are supposed to be thestrals because if you pay attention, after Osric dies it pans over to the main character and you can see that he watched the death and in the back ground the thestrals shimmer into view. You can only see them if you've experienced death so its a really cool detail they included.

saying you need to read 7 books to fully enjoy this game is basically saying it’s a bad game, it’s like when ppl say ‘oh you need to read the book to get the movie’ I should be able to understand and enjoy this piece of work without having to reference something else. The parts of the game that reference the lore are placed for hardcore fans, you should be happy that the devs bothered to do something like that, but the game should in no way rely on these parts to make it into a fully realised experience

I think it would have helped if your character had asked Fig why he/she could suddenly see the thestrals and that made Fig realize Osric didn't make it

@@MIAsuxdonkey No it's not. Because by that logic, Elden Ring is also a terrible game because it has less story than this game and it's all lore based which you have to find and read in the game. I don't like Elden Ring myself but it's not a bad game. The game could have explained it for those not in the know, but for those who are fans, it's a cool little easter egg. Plus, you can learn about thestrals later in the game via the field guide iirc (there's a stable full of them on Hogwarts ground). A lot of people not familiar with HP are enjoying the game from what I've seen.

The only thing I think is missing is Jeremy Soule's Soundtrack... That soundtrack is so iconic and Nostalgic it's criminal that it's not in the game. Hopefully modders can add it in some how..

@@jazz8000 not entirely, you can hear some of the storybook theme from the philosophers stone in the Greenhouse theme, I nearly lost my mind after I heard that lullaby’s tune in someone’s gameplay preview. I have a comparison video on my channel if you want to see what I mean.

@@megalord3740 imo it's too watered down that you can't even tell. Which is why I am Happy with Modders adding the menu music and inventory music and the official happy hogwarts for the room of requirement, along with broom flight music from cos and buckbeak flight from poa games. I also replaced the spell audio to the old harry audio.

I really wasn’t expecting much, especially for a AAA game, but this Exceeded Expectations for me. I’ve been enjoying it any chance I have to play it! I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed the dead pan expressions after a character finished talking. It’s like they’re putting up with me and faking a smile until I leave

HP gameboy rpgs are sooo underrated. I loved them as a kid! And the early PC games were some of my first ever games on PC. Definitely want a part 2 and more from Hogwarts Legacy! This game is amazing and got me feeling the same happiness I felt when I played the first 2 tie-in movie games. Flying with a broom, doing challenges, discovering castle secrets and the main quest are all amazingly well done! The game gets an "O" for outstanding!

Surprised you left out the thestrals magically coming into the Avatar’s sight after the man was eaten by the dragon. That’s why they were invisible at first. Besides that, this is great to see these comparisons! The first PC games are immediately what I think of when I learn spells here!

I haven't played the game yet but from what I have seen I miss the feeling of a school. There are teachers but there are no first year students or senior students. Everyone looks the same age - but rather university student aged, not school aged. I miss some rules from the books. I miss some of the darkness from the movies. Also, everything is a bit too tidy and too cleaned up! The Gryffindor common room is famous for the clutteredness.

glad to hear someone else is willing to critique this game, i also get weirded out after certain conversations, someone will be crying about something tragic and just because the conversation ends their expression changes to a blank slate

Loved watching all your HP game reviews, so I'm glad you made one about Legacy!

I grew up on the old school Harry Potter games on pc, got Order of the Phoenix on the Wii when it came out and COD: HP Edition. I loved all your videos covering those games and this video is no different! Definitely need a part 2 for this!

This game was definitely worth the wait. I just wish the Felix felicis potion that you got for pre-ordering did more than just reveal chests on the map. Maybe if it increased the amount of galleons you get from chests or something

This game exceeded my expectations in every way. From the combat to the visually stunning settings. I struggle to see how they could make a sequel to this. The only things I wish they had was quidditch, a way to get house points like in the chamber of secrets and more in-depth class mini games.

Seems the portrait agreed the character didn't look fifteen, seeing as he played "What's My Age Again?"

I was impressed by the thestral introduction, actually - you only see them after the minister dies in front of you. It was more subtle than I was expecting.

Flandrew I've watched all your comparison videos and this is by far your funniest - keep it up the writing in this one was top. London cabby and step through the stargate both made me laugh out loud

11:22 Both of those things are a bit advanced for a society that still regularly used non-car radios that look no newer than the 1950s in terms of design in the 2000s and only have those antiquated giant cameras that capture single images (in spite of the images moving) in the 1900s _and_ 2000s. Polaroids were a thing when I was a kid in the 90s and yet they're still developing photos by dipping them in potions (which apparently also happens to be how the pictures move according to what Colin Creevey was told).

This is a really neat video idea, I think it’s awesome to compare old Hp games or games in general to more modern incarnations to see how they’ve evolved. Would love a part two on this and Star Wars games if possible!

Now this is the content I was waiting for before buying Hogwarts Legacy!! The castle from the original PC games makes up 95% of what I imagine every time I re-read the book series, so I am hoping the new game is closer to that than the films... I guess we'll see as I watch this video.

ive been waiting for a harry potter game like this the last game i really enjoyed was chamber of secrets and ye this is insanely good, i reckon btw that quiditch wasnt added was because they didnt want to push development time further, i dont mind waiting for dlc... as long as its more content than quidditch like maybe just make expansions for us to go to the next years

If you payed attention to the movies and the games intro when they get attacked and the guy in the carriage dies the thestrals appear, as you know only someone who has seen someone die can see them which is why they were invisible at first.

If you noticed, when the dragon kills the guy, the creatures appear and you’re character can see them

9:01 Ah yes, I remember Vegeta imploding his enemies.

This game was a dream come true for me. Hogwarts and the surrounding open world are so beautiful and interesting to explore. Flying around on both the brooms and mounts are exceedingly fun. And there hasn't been a single bad mission in the game IMO. I also really liked all of the characters. Natty, Poppy, and Sebastian all had great stories and they grew on me as the game went on. It's not perfect, but it is a dream come true and it's an excellent launching point for more Wizarding World games in the future. Also which console did you play it on? I played it on PS5 and didn't experience any of the weird glitches seen in your footage. I have heard the PC version has been a bit finicky.

oh i'm pretty confident that they didn't include quidditch because the flying needed a bit of work at first (MUCH better with the latest patch and with upgrades) and so they wouldn't have to deal with it and could just focus on the rest of the world. considering how it all worked out, i'm gonna say it was the right choice lol. whether it's somehow included in a dlc (really wouldn't fit into the story) or it's in a sequel, i'll be glad that they worked out everything else around it first

What's weird is that I encountered only one bug in my playthrough where I got a prompt to cast the petrification spell and there were no enemies nearby.

Great story and gameplay, didn’t have that much glitches in the whole play through. But the puzzles and caves start to feel like mindless work for the platinum. The fun element is completely gone in that part, at least for me.

You can find a note in the game that states that the injury on the quidditch pitch that got the season cancelled wasn't even that bad, and it implies that either Headmaster Black just hates Quidditch and cancelled it, or the the Pure-blood family of the injured student kicked up a stink about it.

it feels like a movie set in a high school even though the actors are in their late 20's

This does show how good Chamber of Secrets/ Philosopher's Stone on PS2 were for their time. Hogwarts Legacy most reminds me of those games, but it could do with a few more secret passages within the castle itself and a proper Prefect patrol system at night. Maybe we’ll get that in the sequel.

As someone who has played all original Harry Potter games this game brought back the best of memories and added a few new things as well the unforgivable curses were and are so much fun I give the game 9.1 outta 10

I personally really like this game, especially Hogwarts. However, I don't quite understand why they needed to add SO MUCH countryside. Thats definitely my biggest critique. The castle and its grounds are some of the most impressive and detailed enviroments in open world gaming, which makes the highlands with all it's generic villages and ruins feel like a publisher mandate to push the playtime. The story is quite nice tho, especially the companion quests.

Yeah the whole bottom right corner of the map felt pretty useless. I read another person say they felt the game was like "AA and ½A", and I completely agree. It was super close to being AAA level but just missed some of the overall polish and consistency that makes a game like the Witcher 3 so incredible. It was just so front loaded that the first 10-15 hours blew the 2nd half of the game out of the park, so much so that I was just ready to be done with it by the end. Absolutely blown away at how it turned out though based on my expectations, and I'm sure the next game they make will be better in that regard.

One minor thing I'd like them to add is the ability to pause during cut scenes and dialog most other games have this feature. So many times i got interrupted while playing and had to reload because i missed a lot of either because i could not pause it.

Wasn't expecting too much but it did exceed my expectations and I had a lot of fun with the game. The world they created was full of detail and just well put together, the combat was much better then what I thought it would be and some of the references to the older games made me quite happy but there is still stuff that could be better imo

I had not given Harry Potter much thought since the books wrapped up but watching your recap of the old games is part of what made me want to check out Hogwarts Legacy, but I'm glad I did its a good game and its been fun to return to the world

The disillusionment charm was in the books, it's not a mechanic that came out of the blue, although I get where you are coming from

i dont know about anybody else, but a big reason why the first games stuck in my mind, and why i could replay them fully over the years, was the excellent music the games had. It still is for the the best game enhancing music i've ever heard. i've watched multiple reviews of this game and none have said anything at all. I wasn't expecting the harry potter music btw, but no one mentioning it means its pretty generic right? how do the people that played it feel?

I play it on a purple/blue switch and I still have my purple gameboy advance with the first HP game - I love both of them so much :)

For small updates I wish npcs would react to what we do and that we could talk to them a bit more. More immersion like let us sit down, have students in the dorms at night etc.

The thestrals at the beginning of the game didnt glitch, they are invisible because ur character never saw somebody die, and the moment that he sees that dragon kill the guy in the carriage you can immidiatley see in the cutscene that the thestrals appear!

I won't be playing in a long time, so please part 2, sir! ♥haha (btw, excellent blink 182 cameo)

I didn't play this Hogwarts legacy and even other harry potter games but one thing very sure is that huge possibility of DLC is most difference point between Hogwarts and old harry potter game.

1:30 Funny thing is that when the goblin told me to get nto the car the PTSD from the PS1 game came back instantly. Thankfully we didn't had THAT minigame here.

7:49 I mean the barbers in WoW can do a lot of inexplicable things, not least of which is give you a full s*x change. There's no way they're not using arcane or nature magic for that.

My major problem with the game is the lack of difference between the attack warning Spider Sense thing. The warning for a blockable/parryable attack looks way too similar to the warning for an unblockable attack. It always takes me a split second to decipher which one is which.

The game really does need a good mini game of quidditch, you finish the dueling club too fast and the other mini game with pulling the ball is kinda lame after a bit. (SPOILER) I know you do talk to the flying professor and in that convo she alludes to talking with the head of sports in the ministry to get quidditch back in time for a short season of games so maybe in DLC? or hopefully a sequel. Just needs more mini games to keep you at Hogwarts for longer imo

I would definitely change needing an internet connection just to start the game. It's a single player game and you need that internet connection just to play the blasted thing.

Yes, that carriage really was pulled by Thestrals. You can see them appear after... George is killed by the dragon.

Ngl I enjoyed playing the Harry Potter games and replayed most of them from time to time. 3 and 4 using my PSP, 5-8 on my PC. Can't wait to play HL on PC once I get it

my only exposure to the previous games are your videos. I'm thoroughly enjoying HL (even with all the bugs) . It's exactly what I think the HP community and universe deserves. Your comparison videos really do go into great depth and does more to compare any other "comparison" videos out there. Feel free to create more content on this
