the lil specks on the corners basically tell you that the card has been mass produced and was connected to other cards, while obviously fakes werent

in a nutshell - check for specs - make sure the coloring looks legit (like it's not super muted) - make sure the edges look similar to legit pcs

Yeah that's true but I got a weki meki pc once and thought it was fake cause the corners weren't very round but I checked the one I pulled and turns out it was just how all the pcs were

It’s hard to compare though for other groups. Because some photocards are just shaped differently, haha so if you have and compare a real to it’s fake counterpart then you can tell. But keep in mine not all real photocards are the exact same size if they’re from different albums. Sorry if I explained it weird haha

Muhammad Hafeez not always! Her legit love shot d.o. photocard didn’t have the “not for sale” on the back. SM doesn’t always do it. Also, I do not know any other companies who put “not for sale” on the back.

Gab Just as fyi, it was started when SM changed their company logo back in 2017. That was the last time we saw SM artis’s photocard with “NOT FOR SALE” written at the bottom back. As for EXO, you can compare to the 2016 releases (Exact/Lotto Album) with the 2017 releases (The War/TPOM Album) as well. In addition, SM nowadays pcs are just full logo of comeback and with the sign of member itself. Which is very annoying for us as a photocard collector.

On the other hand, when you order photocard from SUM Market. Then you’ll have a SUM Market written at the back. But we know SM only reproduce pcs for the artist that still stay under SM. Yups, we won’t be able to order Tiffany/Seohyun/Sooyoung/Jessica/Tao/Kris/Luhan’s pc on SUM Market LOL.

For the Don't Mess Up My Tempo Xiumin and Baekhyun cards. On the real photocards the back side is silver and bronze/gold/idk respectively, but the fake ones are off because regular printers can't print metallic colors. They can print a color that looks similar but there is no way someones home printer is going to print a actual metallic color. You can't get silver or gold or bronze or like... metallic blue using CMYK colors, just no way to mix it using cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Same with white and fluorescent colors. For white, metallic and fluorescent colors you need a 5-color printer. It's a printer where you can use CMYK colors + an additional color. For the 5th color you can insert whichever color you like. For example: If you want that Xiumin photocard to have silver back side, you need to add a silver color to your printer. In that case, your printer can use cyan, magenta, yellow, black and silver. if you have only regular printer (4 colors), the printer is not able to print silver and prints the closest color it is able to, what in this case is gray. Other option would be to print on a silver paper but that affects other colors you print and it can turn out really weird. That's a lot of information no one asked for nor no one needed, but I'm bored. Sorry, if you actually read all that

this video is really helpful!! i think if you’re buying from eBay then check the sellers feedback, their location (usually china is a big alarm), and the price of the item! if you have trusted sellers then definitely stick to them! i’ve mainly seen fakes for bts, exo and nct but always do research if you’re questioning them! it definitely doesn’t help when there’s multiple presses (e.g. chinese and korean presses!) but just stick to well-known sellers, or just don’t buy it if you’re unsure!

good examples of different countries presses are from SM too, e.g. EXO MAMA Chinese press vs Korean press that have small differences and also more up to date cards such as WAYV’s TOTM set which have both Korean presses and Thailand presses (they have different corners and are slightly different in size) but research is key !!!!

Yep, I think checking the quantity is good as well, like if there’s a lot available it seems a bit weird especially if it’s rare.. also is there a way to distinguish between a real pc being lightened from exposure to light or if it’s a fake with lighter colouring?

i think more groups have specs on the card. i looked through my svt, skz and bts cards. they all have specs but some of them aren’t as visible as the others but you can still see them. i also noticed on other inclusions like postcards the specs are also there but less visible again. idk but wanted to put that out there to help someone.

i also recently bought skz oddinary limited sealed album and pulled one felix pc, and one thing i noticed is that at the back of the pc, the cut didn't align with the color black print. it's hard to explain but i think it's just a minor error from the printing. one thing is for sure, the pc is legit since i bought it sealed, pulled it myself and it has some stem cuts to it in all corners :)

hi this video really helped me a lot, but today i just got a fake pc, and it was so good i nearly didn’t catch it. What surprised me and caught me off guard though was that the card had the white dots on it in the same spots as the real. But i compared it to a real one i had and realised the color was a tiny bit more faded and lighter, as well as felt a bit more rough and thick. Honestly this was the best fake card I have ever seen, no way would i have known until I had it on my hands. So be careful people, even white dots/specs doesn’t mean it’s real all the time.

note: kihno pcs have sharp edges and no specs

yups. And that’s kinda annoying at the same time for us who’s dedicated to be a Photocard Collector LMFAO 😂

sometimes even the real photocards don't come with those specs which makes it even harder to know if its real or not. there are sellers that are getting better at producing fake cards and people buy it without looking at the reviews from others.

omg u should definitely do like comparing first press vs other presses thatd be rly interesting to see too!!!

I don't think the specs are for mostly sm, most of my pcs have them ( i collect got7 mostly, but i do have a big variety of groups from different companies and almost all of them have specs)

It's because it's mass production. They get cut off there and it leaves those dots. It's like those cards that are attached and you can rip apart. The fake ones aren't like that so they don't have those dots obviously ♥️

having worked with many printers, getting colours right is supremely difficult when you mass produce, so sometimes colours are not a good indicator either, gotta look at it thoroughly and sellers too

I would be interested in seeing more about the different presses of photocards as that is an interesting topic. I think it's good that most of us care about having real photocards because we know that these were at one time in an album and therefore, in the initial purchase, that artist was paid for them. you can probably bend test them too. typically photocards are made with a similar quality of paper as trading cards. if you bend them, they shouldn't give out and crease unless completely folded. I've noticed, with fake photocards, they crease with bending.

I'm new to this and i bought a don't mess up my tempo kyungsoo photocard, there are little specs on the middle and bottom part of the pc, as a perfectionist i was sad about it hahahha then this vid is my savior, now i compared it to my official exo album pc that i have and it actually has specks too, turns out it's one of the important things to look at to know if a pc is official and legit

Yeah with the An Ode cards, literally the two cards I pulled from the same album, are slightly different colours on the back, it's probably something to do with inconsistencies in mixing the ink. But since I pulled them both from the same sealed legitimate album it didn't bother me at all.

Months ago i saw debates about fake pcs. Someone complained that sehun photocard she got from what a life album was fake, eventhough she pulled it from album. Her reasoning was the card had no specs on the edges. At first i was like "isn't it means the pc is good because it got cut cleanly and has no defects?". But then i read more and apparently specs is a sign that the card is indeed real lol

a lot of the times the fake ones are more “zoomed in” so the spacing is off and the quality isn’t as good, idk if you mention this later in the video or not but i just thought i’d put it out there haha

Sometimes the coloring is different in real photocards as well. I have two MAMA pcs, both are legit but the coloring is slightly different in the back

Started by using my mom’s Herbalife A4 Binder, then tried to buy a package of Bantex A4 sleeve with 9 pockets. Almost all official photocards have those specs not only SM. They have them because of mass production :)

For those watching this but doesn't want to compare it with EXO but instead with other groups, just look for the specs in the corners or not in the top and bottom (middle and there's supposedly 2 specs if it's on the middle) :)

One time I got a fake card as a freebee and I was so confused cause I thought it was real and someone sent me it by mistake, but when I checked it with some real ones I had I realized it was fake. Pretty much if you have any real photocard from the same set as the fake one you can tell easily. It’s harder to see on camera but in person it’s obvious

Thankyouu for this, my cherrybomb nct pcs the back all have a slightly different pink back… so i was stressed! But now i am sure they must be real

One thing I've noticed on fakes too is that the signatures sometimes tend to be either bolder or more fuzzy than the original ones.

I have two Ten Barista pcs and the coloring is way different and also the zoom in the photos are different too but it's hard to tell if one would be fake since it's not directly from SM

I think agencies need to find new strategy to make sure they make a hard-to-fake kinda PCs. Seeing this makes us anxious 😅😂

Ah this ! I rarely communicate with 'real' friend when in comes to kpop for my own privacy. So the only way to buy or trade PC is from online..but it is really hard to tell whether their PCs are real or fake. Esp if they also got the PCs from other seller and not from their own self bought album.

I have few real pc and i have many fake ones too and i have the same pc and i easily notice the difference, the color i mean the fake has darker or yellowish and its not shiny and it is perfectly cut while the orig is very light in terms of color and the paper itself and its shiny and the sides have curves like lil bumps. I buy fake photo cards since i cant afford many album and i just really live to collect kpop stuffs i hope this will helps too.

A lot of Fake cards are zoomed in on the photo and on the back. so if you see, that for example there is less space between the ear and the edge of the pc then in other pictures of the pc, then you should be carful of buying it. If in doubt, ask someone for a second opinion. Facebook selling groups or on IG or Twitter or elsewhere, there are many people who will help.

SM photocards are not the only ones with little specks on the edges. All official photocards (from every group) will have them because it basically shows that the photocard has been mass-produced. SM's are definitely more noticeable than other companies (from what I've seen at least) :)

My friend traded me a sound wave pc. It didn’t have the specs though. Is it fake or was it just not mass produced since it was a sound wave pc?

I think most of the Kpop groups have the specks on the photo cards cause rn I have Dreamcatcher and Gfriend albums, they both smh have it (in the corners or in the middle of the photos). I thought that they didn't cut the photos properly while production (extra parts), and I tried hard to remove them, but I was stupid, that was on purpose LOL!

i noticed that most of sm's photocards have those lil specks, the only exception i've seen so far is EXO-SC's What a Life photocards, even its corners are sharper

This is a specific question but I was wondering whether anybody knew if the back of the neo zone Kihnos is a slightly different colour to neo zone T version photocards. I pulled the photobook card and bought the kihno one and I knew that kihno cards don’t have the specs and have different corners but the black back is a different shade and I’m unsure whether that’s how they’re manufactured or mine is fake?

Why do companies make 2nd press photocards different from the 1st press?

i can't tell if my wayv take off cards are fake. do your take off cards seem different compared to the take over the moon ones?? the ones i bought seem the same as the one i pulled but they all still feel different compared to other sm/nct photocards. and none of them have specs, even the one i pulled

yerimie I didn‘t compare my WayV cards yet but I guess why it could be official but looking fake: I realized that the Take Off albums are more expensive than the TOTM albums, and I think that it‘s because of the press. It could be that SM decided the Chinese press for the Take Off albums - since they‘re a chinese group but maybe it‘s easier for him to "create" (?) them in Korea. Created in other countries (US, Korea, China, Japan) they can come differences (like how Katie told us about NCT127 Neo Zone American vs Korean press (literally only a sticker), it can be with PCs too

The way all the fakes look like the scanned versions you'll see on Pinterest 😭 like if ppl want to mass produce good replicas they'll need to get a super high quality scanner and not just the ones we use to scan out pocas.
