130 km/h is the recommended speed on the Autobahn. This is very important when it comes to things like liability of insurances. But legally, you are allowed to go faster if there is no speed limit.

I live the snow, too. I think it's the best of winter. Unfortunately we get less and less snow. 30 years ago in my childhood we had a lot more of it and it stayed and didn't melt away so quick. I love it when it snows really heavy and then going for a walk. The silence through the snow is so amazing. It's just so peaceful.

Dear Friends U mentioned the snow in Köln...well i grew up in Düsseldorf just very close to Köln. Now i am a grumpy old german close to reach 62 grrr but i do remember my mother waking me up in the middle of the night because there was white snow, just a few hours later it turned grey because of the pollution. Now germany is getting more aware about the enviroment. And yes its because some smart adults, but most because of the children, they know its their world. I am proud of this young folks, all over the world, i call them green worriors

Servers Paradise, North QLD, Great Barrier Reef in north 👍 The dry climate with sunny day you get for free 👍 What I don't like : The flies are so annoying

I love Australia so much. The only thing I miss down under is the German bread variety. All of the soft bread types in Australia we just call "Toastbrot" = bread that need to be toasted. 🍞😅

Nice sum up for your close to one year experience here in Germany. As you looked a bit puzzled about a possible speed limit of 130 km/h on the German highway (Autobahn), it is just a recommended speed limit. So sum it up for you, we do have several speed limits on the Autobahn. For one, we have a minimum speed limit of 60 km/h - so if your vehicle combination (the car, the trailer and possible attachments to it) are limiting you to drive slower than that, you are not allowed to drive on the Autobahn. Next to it, in some areas you have maximum speed limits, some of them permanently and some temporary because of construction sites, dangerous sections like narrow curves, bad pavements or close to residential areas to lower traffic noises. The third limit is the recommended speed limit of 130 km/h. It basically means, that if you drive faster than that, you might held partially responsible when you took part in an accident if speeding faster than that. Besides those limits, you're free to go dependend on your car limits and your own safety while feeling comfortable. Besides the speed limit, you should also keep a distance of half the speed to the vehicle in front of you to be able to react in time - so for example if you drive 100 km/h, the distance needs to be 50 m to the other one (on dry roads). This is also checked sometimes by the police... To calculate the distance, just look to / count the street poles on the side of the road between you and the other one in front of you. What you might not have experienced yet is a really nice winter time with several centimeters or more of pure white snow (not the muddy, dirty looking slush at just freezing temperatures. If you are into walking in more rural areas with snow, you will notice and probably enjoy the calm, more peaceful environment as a lot of the environmental noices will be swallowed up by the snow.

oh my god - you honestly are Australian and decided to move to Cologne, Germany? Wow, just wow :D I can't believe this. I am german and currently in the visa process for Australia with my husband. We spent a year in Australia before Covid happened and decided to go back permanently. It is just a completely different world, a better one in our eyes. The climate, the open-mindedness of the people, the work-life balance, the wages (obviously).. I guess Australians, that have lived in Australia all of their lives, just want to experience something else for a while. Maybe a variety of different cultures close by. Otherwise, I cannot understand how someone could possibly choose Germany over Australia :D Especially cologne.. I honestly find it so crowded and dirty and noisy. Maybe you could make another video comparing your hometown to cologne and what you like specifically about Cologne? I would find that very interesting :D Do you plan on staying here permanently or would you like to go back at some point? Anyways, I do hope you and your family had a good start here in Germany and that all of you are happy!

😅😅 yes I moved to Germany 🇩🇪. Moving to Germany was never something I had previously planned to do but my fiancé lives here with his daughter so I made the move for love. Now I have my own son with my fiancé and we’re happily living here. One day I would love to go back to Aus as I love living there and it will always be home but Germany has been a wonderful place to live too. I haven’t been to this part of the world before so everything is new and exciting. Obviously the weather is better in Aus but I don’t mind the cooler weather. Hallo Elyce, wonderful video, really nice to hear your opinion after living for a while in Germany. It's really cool to have you guys here. In the most areas of Germany, complaining about the public transportation system is on a high level, sometimes we do not really appreciate what we have comparing to other countries. But being good gives you the responsibility to hold that level or getting better. Good Public transportation must be our concept for the future, beside of doing something by bicycle. I'm personally not a car driver, but for people that are not really used to drive her and haven't the experience to drive in Germany, it's not that bad to have a few lessons before, especially if you life close to major cities like Munich, Berlin or Frankfurt am Main, driving there is very specific, but that's just my personal opinion. Because of respect and tradition, in most areas of Germany, Christmas starts on Monday after the dead Sunday(Totensonntag) at the 21st of November. One week later is the 1st advent with lighting of the first candle on wreath. Thanks Robert! Germany certainly does have better transport schedules. I like that I can be here and not have to rely on having a car to get around. That’s a great idea. I love German bread. I am lucky enough to liive in the Adelaide and Mt Barker has a proper German bakery but of course in Germany there is far more variety . The Eifel is superb. I did a walking tourthere back in 1982! Justvloved it. And i did have to walk through some snow . Very new to me.

Australia does have those recycling machines but unfortunately they are few and far between to find! Not sure why!

130 kph are the recommended travel velocity. It's neither a law, nor valid everywhere on the Autobahn. Sometimes it's capped to 120 by a sign e.g. When you see the white round sign with 5 black lines coming from the lower left going to the upper right. This means that all previous restrictions are no longer valid and you can overtake again and drive as fast as possible. You're welcome. For the winter trip to the Eifel. Be sure to have winter tyres on the rims! Additionally tyre chains would be nice to have. If you have never driven on snow I urge you to practise first on a large parking lot or similar. It's not rocket science, but definitely needs practising. You don't want to see a curve coming and you steer, but the car still goes straight, because you were too fast...;-)

Lol I grew up in Ballarat and the weather can often be inclement and here in Cologne it's more often grey and cold but it feels less cold. Bread, health and cycling are definitely way better in Germany but driving is better in Australia because of the speed limit. I have the feeling that Germany takes better care of it's workers than in Australia. At least in the industries I have worked in (been here for 30 years). I do find the mentality of the Germans I mix with to be very compatible with the Australian mindset in many ways but regional Australia is certainly very easy going which is wonderful too.

Thanks for watching 😊. Rent can be pricey if you’re looking closer to the city and if you want a nice looking place, just depends on what you’re looking for and what you need in a place. There can be some more affordable ones that pop up on the websites though. It can be quite competitive to get a place. Most of the time you will need to fit out your own kitchen and lighting. If you’re taking over from someone else they might want you to buy their kitchen from them as a condition of moving in. Keep your options open as it can be hard to get the flat you want. I had to pay to take over the previous tenants kitchen and some of their furniture. I looked for a place around my work when I was deciding where to live. All the best 😊.

Hi Paul, I got public health insurance. TK insurance. It was a easy process to sign up.

There's the misconception that on the stretches without speed limit you can go as fast you want. That's not true. You may go as fast as you can though. ;)

I’m biased because I’m Australian so I still pick Aus as my favourite but I have big love for Germany too. There are lots of opportunities here to travel as you’re so close to other Europe countries which I love. I also think that because i don’t speak German good enough I feel more independent in Aus. These are things that I can always work on though. That’s just me personally.

German bread is untouchable - Nowhere makes better bread than Germany! You also missed the German cold cut meats!! German sausages are especially fantastic quality. To be fair to Australia though on the food front, Australia has a much better ethnic dining scene (minus Kebabs) especially with Asian food. Australia has such a diverse range of different cuisines from all around the World, of course Germany does too but not to the same extent. In Europe a lot of the Asian food I've had is "fusion" so it's not exactly authentic.

German bread is top notch! We love it. We don’t eat a lot of meat. I have had one while being here and it was delicious. True, Aust has a great food culture too. I’m from Melbourne so the food scene there is so diverse which is awesome.

4:12 I was like: what??? _(But I get it, it's rather about the availability 😆.)_ Because I recently looked up the prices for public transport to get around in Sydney (Inner West). And I was absolutely STUNNED! In Australia, I can drive 60 km for the price for which I can only drive 10 km in Germany. 😵.

There were several waves of immigration - South Australia in particular the Barossa Valley had a lot of German immigrants in the mid- late 1800s and would perhaps have the most remaining German culture. Overall Germans have been very good at blending into Australian culture so no suburbs with German ex-pats, although most capital cities will have German clubs to have a night out at.

I'd love to be able to discover Germany as something new. Difficult for a German, even though I've been living in Spain for more than 25 years. By the way, U wouldn't sleep with such big pillows either. And I miss Brötchen here.

The million dollar question lol. I have never studied in Germany so I can’t comment on that but I hear there are great options for overseas students to study here. Aus is a great lifestyle and studying there was a great experience but you may need to pay some upfront costs being from overseas. If you’re concerned about costs maybe check that out. My partner was living in Münster and it’s a University city. He absolutely loves it there and lots of people do. Melbourne or Sydney would be ideal places to study for great city lifestyles. I am biased because I’m from Aus so I love it with all my heart but perhaps other people will add to this and help you make a decision. Thanks for watching

I love snow and cooler whether probably the top 1 reason why I wanna move out from my country(not Australia). I am super confused between Australia and Germany(Even though Australia is warmer but the quality of life there left me confused😕). I want to move to a country where -quality of life is excellent -people are very open minded and won't judge you for your religion,colour,race etc -has better salary to project life smoothly -since I aimed for becoming a pilot, so a good airline company to work for.. - can buy a porsche or Mercedes - night view is awesome - country where snowfalls happen Helppppppp me to choose between Germany and Australia😩

Hello, I’m a 5th generation Australian and live in Melbourne. You can travel to snowfields 120 km east of Melbourne, Mt Baw Baw is the city's closest downhill ski resort and is perfect for snow newbies and children Otherwise Mt Buller and Falls creek offer good skiing opportunities a bit further away. The quality of life in Australia is still one of the best countries to live ranking a bit higher than Germany. I have been to Germany and it is a beautiful country with gorgeous towns, snowfall, close for travel to other European countries. In Australia it’s a long flight to get to Europe 22 - 24 hours. Australia has beautiful coastline, known for its friendly people, main language is English, work opportunities are great, more chance of owning your own home here than in Germany. The best states for warmer weather are Queensland, Western Australia, Northern Territory. Victorians usually holiday in the north to escape the cold of winter. Melbourne and Sydney are very multicultural cities. Germany also seems to have a good reputation as a place to live and work from what I’ve seen on KZread. Hope that gives you a few more ideas about what life in Australia could be like. Come to Australia for a holiday. You might just love it here. Good luck!

Nah, in Germany pillows come in all shapes and sizes. Have a look around. The best thing about German healthcare is that dentistry is included! Here in Australia, I pay through the nose. And every time I go to a GP it costs me $ 30, specialists even more. You are so right about public transport and cycling. Melbourne's pt system has improved over the years, but generally one wastes far too much time in transport, no matter how you travel. I still cycle almost everywhere in Melbourne, it is possible but the city is obviously geared for cars. It is soo hard to find decent bread in Australia! Australian food is the worst. Certainly the best thing about Australia is the toilet situation. Public toilets are frequent, reasonably clean and for free! Much unlike Germany.

@@elyce_patricia Australia has been my home since 2009. But honestly, I would love to go back to Europe. Germany is my home where all my family, except of course for my Australian wife. I miss German bread, I miss German Autobahnen, but what I miss most is the opportunity to just get into your car spontaneously, drive to Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, London and spend a weekend in a different country. Particularly from Köln those cities are so easy to get to, in 2 hours you're in Brussels, 3 hours to get to Amsterdam, 4 hours to get to Paris. Here you drive for days are don't leave the state you're in. In 2011 we moved from Sydney to Townsville and drove the entire first day to get to Byron Bay still in New South Wales and then we drove for two whole days to get up to Townsville in Queensland. Australia has a lot of open space but I miss the closeness of Europe. If I want to spend the weekend in another city I can fly to Melbourne, Brisbane or Auckland. In Europe I have Dublin, Edinburgh, Prague, Vienna, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Athens and many more which roughly takes the same time to fly to. My wife now is getting her first grandchild so I'm afraid that our chances to move to Europe are getting slimmer even though we always talked about moving to Europe at least temporarily.

Naja, ich wohne schon seit über zehn Jahren in Australien und finde es nicht so toll. Es gibt halt wichtigere Sachen als gutes Wetter und den Strand. Das Essen ist schlecht, die Leute sind konservativ und man verbringt viel zuviel Zeit im Strassenverkehr.

@@vive928 no, I moved from Germany to Australia 12 years ago. Now we have financial stability here, but I surely do not enjoy living in Melbourne. I'd much prefer living in Leipzig or Berlin. I rejected moving back to Berlin when my Australian wife suggested it a few years ago. I prefer Germany, but I don t want to desperately look for a flat and a shitty job again.

The winter may be very long at last.

This will be my first time experiencing the whole winter. I don’t mind the cold but I don’t really like how dark it gets. I miss the long summer days.

Hallo Super Familie ! Danke für das nette Video ! Ich würde Sagen jedes Land hat seine Vorteile und auch Nachteile ! Aber Australien ist deine Heimat ,da sind Freunde und Familie ,es ist bestimmt nicht einfach jetzt hier in Deutschland zu sein ! Grade jetzt in der dunklen und kalten Jahreszeit ,denkt man viel nach was das beste für einem ist ! Ich hoffe aber das ihr noch lange hier in Deutschland bleibt ,! Jetzt kommen Weihnachtsmärkte Karneval Grade in Köln muss man dabei sein und Spass haben ! Vielleicht hilft das diese Jahreszeit zu überbrücken bis es wieder warm und grün wird ! Danke schön! Das stimmt, Australien ist meine Heimat, aber ich genieße auch meine Zeit hier und Weihnachten steht vor der Tür, was ich kaum erwarten kann. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, das Haus zu dekorieren und die Märkte zu sehen. Wir werden auf jeden Fall die Kamera mitbringen, um Ihnen zu zeigen, was wir vorhaben. Hey, I found this website for Australians requesting a visa to work in Germany. australien.diplo.de/au-en/service/01-visa/working-in-germany/2073676 It may be some help. I have a British passport and I started living here before Brexit started so I didn't require a Visa. I'm not sure where you can find work as a carpenter but I would imagine you might need to know the language. I did some Google searches for jobs when I was looking and I found an English role. All the best. I hope you get the opportunity to live and work over here.

Expect a lot of rain.... and expect, you will hate it after two years.

Germany is the only country i guess, without speed Limit.

@@elyce_patricia That's so sweet. I saw her 4 times live in UK: Enjoy Yourself Tour, Let's get to it Tour, Intimate and Live Tour, On a night like this Tour. Had tickets for Kylie Fever 2002 Tour, but didn't attend. Still got all the ticket stubs and programs. I met Kylie in London at Tower Records, waiting 4 hours, the queue seemed endless. Very late (Ten o'clock) evening I finally was eye to eye with Kylie. She's so cute in person. She signed my Kylie Minogue 1994 Promo Book, the new CD she was promoting, we talked and my wife took photos. Great evening.

@@elyce_patricia I even named a Star after Kylie, that was a thing in UK during the 90s. I got in touch with Universal Star Listing and they gave me star options and they made a lovely certificate and Universe Map. The star I had chosen is (since) called "Kylie Minogue Pop Goddess" and the information is deposited with the British Library. I send the certificate and map to DeConstruction Records and approx 3 or 4 month later I received a postcard from Kylie herself: (my name) Thank you for such a thoughtful gift With Love Kylie.....Nice times.
