I am getting a lot of comments about the R colors. Just like I said in the video all cameras are set to manual white balance K6500 and processed with Canon Digital Professional. All cameras are calibrated straight from Canons factory. It’s a fair comparison and I always noticed the R to have more green colors. That was the main reason I didn’t get it personally when it came out. If you have the R and love it that’s awesome, I am not surprised because it’s still an amazing camera even thou it got the last rating from me personally.

I actually prefer warmer colors. I have the R. How would I adjust the color temp on my custom settings to remove the green tint. Move it more to the magenta?
As an RP owner I'm actually shocked how well it held up to the others in dynamic range and image quality in real world situations

The truth is, our eyes can distinguish up to 20-22 stops of dynamic ranges. But our brains can only read 10 stops of DR at a time. So you’ll never see too much of a difference between higher DR camera’s to a lower DR unless you’re going to pixel/image peeps.

I thought the same, although I may keep it as a back up, it doesn't offer the same shutter speed capabilities I've realized I also need. It does keep up amazingly well, it looks great in comparison to to the R6!

Its an amazing sleeper body and so cheap aside from the small battery it passes as a good B camera and even sometimes A
I remember going from my Canon rebel t6 to a brand new RP and I was SO proud and so many people said I wasted my money, I was going to hate it, I should have just waited and saved my money for a better one and as much as the R5 would be amazing, the RP has seriously impressed me and I love mine so much! I've been using my RP for a couple of years, and I've been very impressed with it! I've recently started getting more into wedding photography, so I'm currently looking to buy a second body.
That rp is looking strong in this i think.
I've been shooting with the RP for 12+ months yet & I've never felt like it's held me back on any of the shoots I've been hired for. I recommend it to anyone who asks about jumping up to Full Frame
I’ve had the RP for a year now and absolutely love how small and light it is. Great for travel. For video the 35mm rf is lens is excellent and the dual pixel autofocus is buttery smooth. I only shoot 1080 24fps so that’s all I care about. Favorite portrait lens is an adapted 135mm Contax 2.8 Sonnar. Also use an adapter 40mm Summicron which is almost too small of a package but gives unique images. An adapted 50mm Summicron is the perfect package to me for stills.
The RP's images are my favorite - hadn't expected that. Great review!
Thanks Irene, I have just purchased an RP (purely as it was the least expensive of the four) and it is great to see your comparison. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
R6! Price quality and features.
I have the R5 and the R. Both work well for my needs (wildlife/birds) I haven't really noticed the colour issue with my R but it was a later model. I like the R for it's 30 meg images, which is always helpful for cropping in. The R5 is superb and the R is great as a second body. Thanks for all your great videos Irene, I love that you focus more on getting the image you want than all the tech aspects of gear, and your results are beautiful.
RP looks amazing in this comparison and I guessed it to the first photo. And most importantly, this comparison shows that the dynamic range is not much worse than others, and the color rendition is one of the best. On R6 I liked the detail, despite the fact that it has the lowest resolution. R5 looks great, but in my opinion, it is better to spend these extra $ 2500 on a good lens.
I've just upgraded from the R to R5 - both great cameras really and the image quality of the R is comparable to that of the 5d-mk4 let's not forget! A good photographer will get great images from both (and a bad photographer...). What I like about the R5 though is the ergonomics with the joy stick and quick control dial, and as someone who crops a lot (street photography), the 45 mp is helpful! The IBIS is also helpful in using the super lightweight lenses like the 50mm STM, which doesn't have in-lens stability. I'm sure in a year's time we'll be hearing about how the R5c or R3 (or whatever) is the new must-have, but I think if you're happy with any of the R's, then best focus on the photography than the equipment and enjoy!
Nice to see the RP get some love for a change! While my mains are R5/R6, I grab my RP for travel, or taking photos of my 1 year old around the house. It’s probably my most used camera these days. Whenever any hobbyist asks me what full frame to get, I always recommend the RP for the price and versatility.

I just bought the RP a few weeks ago and I love it! So far I only have the 50mm with it, but soon I'll expand to the 35mm and 85mm too. I also have a Blackmagic Pocket 4K for video so that side of the RP didn't really bothered me. This video makes me happy and feel like I made the perfect choice thank you :)

Wow, this is good news for my 2 years old EOS RP!
Great review Irene. Respect to the real world comparison. It's basically what matters most to anyone trying to decide which camera to buy rather than specs only comparisons which most people do. Hi Irene. I am contemplating between R5 and R6. More leaning to R6 however but a little skeptical on the 20MP sensor. The R5 bigger 45MP is good but the price difference way too big. Is the R6 20MP good enough?
Im blown away canon rp on second place…got RP 2 weeks ago… and im really happy with it..coming from Nikon D7500…really love the mirror less and full frame
We have the R and R5. We too found the colour shift seemed weighted to green on the R so we adjusted the white balance offset in the camera (under Camera icon, menu item 4) to ad a little magenta. We shot with a colour checker chart. Rather than use a LR preset, we found this to be a more convenient option.

Awesome comparison, I think the RP punches WELL above its weight, I use it as my main camera with the R as a backup usually, (yes I would like the R6 a LOT! ) I would be interested to add the M6.ii into this mix, personally I think that its on a par with these cameras although obviously a different form factor,
Hi I buy new canon 90d it is good camera? For photos shoot? Cus I really don't know ty
Do you sell any Lightroom presets or have links to which presets you use?
Which lens did you pair with the R5 when you were doing the photos. Did you use the 50mm just for video and the 85 for photos?
Hey Irene, I have quite an old Canon 600D Camera. Please could you advise which Camera can I go for good portraits which is affordable?? I'm a beginner
Nice comparison! Great! ... I have two RP bodies ... I use them with the EF 50/1.2 and the EF 85/1.2 lenses. One lens for one body. No lens changing. No dirt inside. :-) The old EF lenses are not that sharp and have a lot of color fringing - but I like the look! And even because of that I'm old, too - my eyes are weak and the picture quality is more then perfect for me! :-)
Irene, thank you so much for doing this video. Lovely photos and very informative. Your video finally convinced me to buy an RP which I love. So, thank you again.
Hi, Great video. What kind of technic did you use? What is dodge and burn?
I'm so glad I watched this. I've been debating which camera to upgrade to and I do a lot of outdoor photography in green areas. The rp seems to be the best option for me right now. Next upgrade will be the r5
Great comparison video Irene! I’m looking to investing in a mirrorless full frame camera - and for the price and quality- The Canon RP looks like my decision. Thank you for making great content!
WELL DONE on reviews of cameras. Showed samples all together as should be. Easily seen in comparison. THANK YOU.
Hello and thank you for this video. For me, in this comparison the two winners are the RP and R6? They give me the impression of having a more natural rendering, especially on the faces of the protraitons, don't they? I currently have the RP + RF 50mm f1.8 (and other EF + Ring RF-EF lenses). In what software do you process your images? Personally I find the RP's Jpegs really very good, right ?! Sincerely, Philgood ...
Thank you so much. I was very confused with other reviews but this one was brilliant
As a portrait photographer first step is calibration then all colours will match I use the colorchecker passport. Also are all firmware upto date?
hello! great shots! what do you think, if the RP is good enough for a first camera in 2023? As a daily camera I use my Samsung S21 :) and I want to switch to smth decent and mby full-frame, because as I understood the pixels are bigger and may get more light and the boke effect should be better with a full-frame. I plan to use it as a travel and every day camera for landscapes, nature, architecture (also street photography) and family.
I have a canon 200d and I want to upgrade it. Which one should I choose between RP and R6?
I was going to upgrade to the R from my Rp, but I don't think I'll bother now. Thank you for showing my little RP stands up against the rest 👍
Irene. When I do Dodge and Burn. I get Red spots on the skin. Any idea? I think the dodge and burn is causing it. I also don't really know how to easy remove red lines someone has beneath their skin if they were not caused by the dodging and burning. And i am talking about small beneath skin red spots but still visible enough
Thank you for this video! I've been eyeing the R6 and I like how it looks straight out of camera. I just have to save up for it
I love my canon R6 ❤️ it does everything I need for my photography. I do love warm tones.
Im looking to upgrade my EOS rebel SL2 to a EOS RP. So far it seems to be a decent upgrade. What do you think?
Great overview! I am thinking some of the color differences might simply be slightly different auto-white balance or even that the light changed slightly between shots and the auto-white balance simply did a different interpretation of the white point. Or did you shoot everything at at the same white balance? Anyway, I just ordered a Canon RP to get a taste of the Canon RF system - I love the ergonomics compared to Sony.
@STAR0SS
3 жыл бұрын
I did a comparison using another reviewer raw files and I could reproduce the green cast when using fixed white balance. When using the camera auto the R5 was actually greener than the R. It was pretty easy to match them by tweaking a little bit the white balance : imgur.com/a/Nr3YfIa
I have the R5 and looking to complete the system with a second camera (shooting landscape with a pair of RF lenses), currently choosing between R6 and RP - looking for best overall performance. You said you personally went with R5+R6 but gave the RP the second place nonetheless. From the sample images, it's not entirely clear which one is best - but the autofocus + video capabilities seem to clearly put the R6 as the better overall option. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!
Thank you for the review! It helped me make the choice of getting the RP. I have an SL2 and wanted an upgrade - thank you!
IRENE!!!!!! what a great video. thank you. I got the R5 and coming from a Sony and Nikon, i was lost. The camera takes amazing pictures and videos!!!! Still learning the buttons and programs!!!!! thank you.,
Should i go for RP for serious photography as my buget is little bit tight
Thank you for wonderful review, Irene!
Any suggestion! First time going to buy a budget friendly camera so RP or 90D better for portraits?
I’m planning to buy RP,upgrading from 70D What would be your opinion?
Kkkk
You are a life-saver! I'm going mirrorless soon and I was wondering which one I should get

Couple of other tips here: If you shoot jpg and just want to use auto white balance you can go in in the cameras menu and tweak the colors toward blue and red, don’t overdo it and do some testing. It’s under the camera icon menu and fourth tab called WB Correction. Now you will have a cooler tone or maybe more neutral tone applied to every shot or video. And if you shoot in raw it’s easy piece to correct in post with a cooler tone in white balance tool and maybe at a bit of magenta in white balance tool as well. Hope it helps.

Two card slots aren't necessary, but they can be handy. One time I was shooting a fashion show and they also wanted it shot in JPG and wanted the photos between the sets. Two slots allowed me to shoot JPG to one card and RAW to the other. Then I could hand off the JPG card between sets and drop in a newly formatted card for next set (while keeping the RAWs all on a larger card that stayed in the camera). After the show, I had RAWs, which allowed me to fully edit the shots for my own portfolio.

Hi, could I know how you obtained the RAW video from R ?
I have to admit this review was better than I expected. So many just talk (literally talk and not much else) about specs. It was nice to see some normal real world use. I've been leaning toward the R6 as an upgrade, but am concerned about the heating issues being mentioned all over the internet. Did you experience any issues with overheating?

@@IreneRudnyk That makes you the only person I know who uses it. But since it is the only sure way to get good colors out of the R5 and R6, it's not surprising. Trying to process portraits from an R5 or R6 in Lightroom is a nightmare. I've found the profiles from Color Fidelity to be quite helpful in that regard. I've played a little with DPP, but it's so slow and clunky. I wish Canon would put some programming time into improving the interface and workflow. Then again, since I don't really use it, maybe I'm not the best judge.
Nice comparison! That must have taken a ton of time juggling the four cameras.
Interested comparisons and you do such a great job 👍These modern cameras renders the world beautifully. You also had a fantastic lens😉 I have two R and that yellow I saw here was a lot more than I get. Though I use Capture One and they have superb camera profiles that doesn’t have that yellow tint. Per my experience is that Adobe isn’t that exact when it comes to colors from each camera but one can get there with PS. ... now I saw you used DPP. Yeah, remember every raw converter has it’s own look of colors and contrast and even between cameras as we saw here. It’s programmed by people with their ideas and not necessarily always “correct”. Thank goodness to all the companies that makes raw converters and gives us so many possibilities to tweak the photos as we prefer.

Very useful information. Good job!
Hello, iam wondering about buying the RP used since i can realy make a bargain on it now
I got the RP three years ago and it has been wonderful. My only complaints are: lower battery life due to LP-E17 vs LP-E6; having to use a bypass cable for vertical shutter release (and only 3rd party battery grips available); no vertical oriented scroll wheel on those battery grips; and your hand size may require the official grip-only accessory that adds 2cm to the bottom. OTHERWISE, IT PRODUCES EXCELLENT IMAGES. Third-party EF-RF adapters are $50, sometimes even with the function ring included. (Don't be suckered into buying the official Canon one unless you need perfect weather sealing I suppose. It all works the same.)
Just purchased the RP after watching your video and I can't wait to try it,I wish I could afford the canon 85mm 1.2 lens.
Was the Eos R updated to the latest version?
I just got my RP and is more happy now thanks to you
I currently have the RP and it's a great camera and even paired with the kit lens I've been able to produce amazing results. But of course I've felt like I've pushed my current gear to it's limits and as my skills and knowledge get better it comes to a point where I have to start saving for better lenses and cameras. I'm eyeballing the R5, everything it offers for photo and all of it's amazing video features. definitely want that 120fps.
Thank you! Now I am SURE I want the R6 as my next camera :D
Wow! This was great! I sold my EOS R and had been thinking about the R5. This pretty much nailed the choice down for me, but I'm also tempted to get an EOS RP as a backup just because of your comparison. And you pointing out the color-tone differences really opened my eyes! Thanks for your video!
I've owned and shot commercially with R, RP and 5D4. Results in this video do not correlate at all for me shooting thousands of images. For me EOS R first for overall photos and video, 5D4 second and RP third. Not sure where the green tint in the R is coming from here, I've never experienced it. I'm looking forward to trying the R6.
