@@bassman3235 that's half of why I like 'em
I appreciated this demo. It was nice not to hear slap or aimless noodling around on the blues scale. My favorites in tone were the Music Man and the Hofner. People usually say Music Man is brighter than other basses, but this one was one of the bassiest options you played.
@bapt_andthebasses

Because of EQ. A MM should not sound like that by "default"
@rome8180
5 жыл бұрын
@@bapt_andthebasses Sure. But if they are all set "flat," as I assume these were, the Music Man would normally sound the brightest. If you roll back on the tone, of course the Music Man is going to sound darker. But I doubt he had the tone rolled back on only that specific instrument. It's true that a Music Man is more warm and versatile than it's given credit for, though.
@bapt_andthebasses

@@rome8180 I'm not sure if you can roll the tone of such a MM, because it's only active (if I'm not mistaken ?). The description says it's all flat, BUT, a Cab simulation was engaged! I agree that it should definitively sounds brighter! A Music Man to me has some versatility but not as much as the 2 other classics we know as P's and J's, right? :)

@@bapt_andthebasses My HH MM Stingray Special is really versatile. It has Bass, Middle and Treble controls, a setting that sounds like classic Ray, 1 that's similar to a J, 1 that's similar to a P and 2 positions I don't use too much.
@NamikazeKyuuga
5 жыл бұрын
@@bapt_andthebasses Huh, you can "roll the tone off" in an even more powerful way since it's active (bass up, treble down). And the Stingray is more versatile than the P for sure and it's about even with the J. There's a TON of sounds you can get from a single sweet position pick-up + active EQ, from scooped mids slapping to heavy mids picking and everything in-between. P only gets you 2 sounds (tone up or tone down) and Jazz gets you a few more but not too many.
Spector and Fodera were my personal favorites. Other brands just dont reach that sort of tone without Eq.

The other basses don’t meant to do by any means the same dry hifi fodera or cutting spector tone at all, each bass have it’s own personality, that’s why there many different bodies, scales, pickups, woods and builds on basses
First P Bass and the Mustang are my picks.

Excellent move; presenting basses in the mix, and then sole sounds of them. Love it!
Loved the demos, loved the groove. Thank you!

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!
None of these basses are bad sounding, just this song suits that vintage flatwoundy tone the best.
Cool demo. of all the basses on this clip, I like the jazz basses, the stingray, the danelectro, and the Ibanez the most.
To me the Spector and the Fender 55 P bass are the best there!

Have a few there but need to add a few as well to be rounded out!
The Stingray suprised me most. I'll always be a P guy, but that Stringray had some comparable low down girth I was not expecting with that pickup placement.
Ive been listening to so much King Gizzard that i adore the Mustangs sound. How is it so recognizeable to my ears?
No joke they all sound good.
Great test
'55 P is straight up ballin'
The Spector for me. Hands down.

I love that sound
Would have liked to hear this with a few riffs, or even just one that isn't almost entirely halfway up the neck, so we can hear what they sound like in that lower register most of us are going to use the majority of the time
Thunderbird fits this song the best. Also liked the Fodera, I'm a PJ guy
Nice comparison video, except for a minor concern: the bass at 0:53 is a Hofner Contemporary Violin Bass instead of Hofner Ignition Beatle Bass.
I own the strandberg boden prog and honestly they are amazing basses!!!!!!

Love that '55
Stingray always sound so good, but specially in this video Stingray was just PERFECT! The best tone i ever heard!
I'd say Warwick Thumb or Fodera sounded best overall, but the Fender Mustang fit the song the best
It would have been interesting to hear them below the ninth fret.
Music Man and Hofner. Would have liked to see a Yamaha BB in the mix!
75 jazz bass....good vibes!
I play Lead but boy do I love some good bass
Welp. I've said it before and I'll say it again...Fender Jazz fo lyfe
That Justang is a gut punch.
Make a video for the ibanez sr500e pleasee
Sounds like you have the toned rolled off on the Stingray and have some overdrive on the Mustang...
Something is wrong with that MM. Perhaps dieing preamp battery? They always have a high cut to the tone on top of the bottom end. Unless you have the eq off by accident
Did you roll the tone off on the Stingray? It sounds like it.
MusicMan love
How did the fodera feel? I'll probably never touch one. But I don't think they sound super special for the price. But there is obviously something to them.

The hofner sounded pretty boomy to me, normally it'd sound that way when the bridge pup's turned off, or maybe it's just me.
The player is playing too close to the bridge for me to get any real idea of how these basses would sound in my hands. My right hand position is a good 3" further toward the neck. On a Fender Jazz, the neck pickup is my thumb rest. That's how you get solid rock tone. Playing close to the bridge like that leads to anemic tone, too heavily weighted toward high partials and no *oomph* in the bass register.
@jamesl.

Agree. Was disappointed in how the thumb and spector sounded because of this.
My favorite basses, Warick Thumbs, Fender Precisions, Ibanez SRs, and Epiphone Thunderbirds (I do not like the gibson ones, the epi vintage pro has the same pickups for 1/3 of the price and sounds just as good to my ears), all in one video
