Great vid. Some corrections: The Euro LX is still in production and it also has the battery compartment (these were added to the Euros in 2016), the LT is just an additional model. Depending on color the LX has Bartolini, EMG or Aguilar pickups. The main difference with the LT is the body is chambered for weight reduction (LT I imagine is for Lightweight) and it has a proprietary DG Tone Capsule preamp. Those are the main differences. Another difference is the Ebony board (though some Euro Special Editions have had the Ebony board as well); and of course, the LX has different finishes than the LT.

So a neck-through bass with PJ single coils that costs nearly $3k has a more strident midrange and more clarity than one with a bolt on neck and dual humbuckers that costs a little less than $2k? Right. Who would've thought. You honestly could've done this whole video with that Warwick and a Warwick Streamer NT with PJs, or that Spector against a Spector Eurobolt with dual humbuckers and seen just as much difference. In any case, both Warwick and Spector make amazing instruments, so just find one you love and play it! If you find the instrument that truly speaks to you, you'll never be looking over your shoulder worrying whether you bought the wrong one. If you buy it because someone else said it was good, you'll always be left wondering what if.

I've had three Spectors since the 1980s. Haven't kept any of them. Great looks but never could get a sound I was comfortable with. Big and meaty for sure but couldn't get a useable top end that I liked. The last one I had for a day and took it back in exchange for an equivalent priced Ibanez. Absolutely no comparison in any department. I have however bought a Warwick Fortress Masterman 5 new in '97. I still have it and always will. The balance is perfect, despite the weight. Easy to play and the sounds - perfection. You name it, it can do it with class. But I'm hopeful that I'll find a Spector that works for me one day. We all have different tastes.

The Warwick sounds more thin it's still a fantastic bass but I'm also a MM stingray owner and a Spector as well. Nothing beats a MM true oil neck it's like butter but the specter neck is more glossy but The specter is louder than my music man now granite my music man stingray is from 2007 it does not have the 18 volt preamp. Just a standard 9 volt. but in my opinion the specter crushes the Warwick

Somewhere in the middle it's flat. If you don't have the internal trim-pot, just roll off the Tonepump because all it is is a Treble/Bass boost.

Absolutely love the Spector Euro rst, as well as the streamer stage one's. Loved the video simply because as a lefty, all the demos one can hear are helpful to determine a baseline, no pun intended, to help with buying the right bass. Not a lot of euro LX basses in my local shops to fiddle with.🤣 Or Warwicks at all. So thank you.👍🤘

I’ve never owned a Warwick, but I’ve played a few, and IMHO, Warwick makes really nice basses. I REALLY like the sound of the Thumb Bass, because that’s what my hero, Jack Bruce used to play. (He also played an early Spector NS2, FWIW) I own 2 Czech made Spectors. One is a 2000 or 2001 NS4CRFM, and the other is a Euro 6LT, that I bought last Summer. Both basses came stock with EMG P/Js, and EMG BTS EQs. My NS4CRFM has “Standard” EMGs, my 6LT has EMG X-Series pickups. I absolutely LOVE my Spector Euros! Their tones are surprisingly versatile. I’m planning a couple more. I want a Euro 5LX, a Euro 5LT and a Euro 6LX. I’m hooked on Spectors. BTW, I prefer the sound of Nicki’s Euro 4LT. And, yes: I’m biased.

  • @Raro404
    @Raro404 Жыл бұрын

Playability is so much more important to me than inherent tone. You can always tweak inherent tone with pedals and EQ to get a sound and output that you like but if a bass isn’t comfortable to play then it’s almost impossible to change that. I’ve loved the sound of just about every Spector Euro I’ve played but I could never get used to that gloss neck. Conversely, my Warwick isn’t the best sounding bass I’ve ever played out of the box but it just feels so comfortable in my hands that it practically plays itself. Chuck in some effects and processing and it’s an absolute tone beast.

I own both a '94 Spector NSCRFM and a '99 Warwick Streamer LX. Love the punchiness of the Spector, and it has one of my favorite slap tones too. I had 2 Warwicks previously, a bolt on and a neck thru Thumb. and tried to like them, but I never warmed up to them. I particularly hated the neck profile (The neck thru was slightly better/slimmer). They were incredibly responsive instruments though, and took some getting used to (If you're used to playing a P bass, for example, you'll immediately notice just how latent they feel/sound comparatively to a Thumb, where the note you pluck is instantaneous). If you're a tapper (I'm not), they're a perfect weapon. Anyway, I prefer the Spector in this demo.

I'd look at the blend might be able to flip it without even soldering on the warwick much like my emg system in my old Rebop the abc (active balance control felt the same put the bridge pickup in the neck position and neck in the bridge position so turning it to the bridge singles out the bridge pickups and to the neck for the neck.

So weird thing about the battery doors, opening and closing them enough times can pull the wires off the solder on the contacts within the door housing. This happened with my old stingray. The Warwick battery connector doesn’t have any tension and If you handle it with care, it’ll never let you down

Warwick owns all bass companies imho. Not only do they have a sick sick sickass growl for all types of music. But They are the only bass I’ve found that has this almost harmonic overtone, to every note....especially the Warwick thumb basses. It’s so hard to put into words what it is that I hear that every Warwick has, it’s almost a droned note that every attacked note has. If ya want to hear it, Ryan Martinie really pulls that tone out of his thumb bass when he plays.

Nothing beats the tone and growl of a Spector. I've owned several basses, Warwick, Fender, Ibanez, Jackson, etc, I even had a Pevey and Gibson. (two big pieces of crap) I was having problems with the electronics with my Jackson bass and had to borrow a bandmates Spector for a gig. That night between sets I got a lot of compliments on my playing from not only the audience but my bandmates as well. The next day I hit the music store and sold all old my basses and bought three Spectors. I've been playing Spector ever since, that was in 02. That growl and tone there's no other sound like it. This is coming from a drummer, the bass is my second preferred instrument, I play it from time to time at some gigs. Spector is the only way to go.

The Spector just sounds fuller with a broader spectrum of highs and lows! At least to my ears. The Warwick is wolly and dull! And the necks on the Warwicks I've tried were uncomfortable to me. I remember playing a Spector Rebop bass with EMGhz pickups at Guitar Center in the used section. I was blown away! I don't know how to explain it. I've played many basses sense with the EMGhz pickups and they don't have what that Spector had! Unfortunately even used it was out of my price range.

I had a Spector Rebop (2008 or something), but sold it at some point. The Tone Pump just didn't work for me and the neck profile around the first three frets wasn't my thing. I tried to play it in a Post Hardcore band and always gravitated back to my AM Standard Jazz for some reason... The Spectors are certainly great quality instruments and I would love to get my hands on the Euro with the PJ configuration, but I'm still sceptical about the neck profile and electronics. 😅

My old spector q4 pro was my first venture with a Spector found it at a guitar center labeled as a legend for 299 lol original pickups are in it still but the g bts has been swapped to a 18 volt darkglass tone capsule. With a gotoh battery box.

I own over 40 basses and I currently only own 2 basses that have an active on-board circuit !!! I am an old school rock player and passive pick up's are perfect for me with a high power tube amp then I am happy !! I'll just use a bass preamp pedal on my pedal board and that works for me !! Remember that it is ALL in the FINGERS !!!

I've never owned either brand instrument, but I can tell that these companies (probably) put more into their instruments than most. They both have excellent tone and unlike some of my instruments, they will likely hold their value over time. I especially love Warwick's designs and choices of woods, but there is a growl to the Spector that I didn't hear on the Warwick.

Awesome video and great comparison. \m/ Both basses are pretty good. especially for metal. \m/ it's a kinda hard to choose which one I like the most. I like the spector euro for it's incredibly punchy sounds. especially since nicki has a set of bartolini pickups(which I'm a huge fan of) and a darkglass tone capsule on her spector bass. this combination I think sounds incredible. and I like the warwick corvette $$ for it's simply unique design and it's growly metal tone. If I were to purchase a warwick bass, I would definitely go with the warwick rockbass corvette $$ 5-string bass. plus they sound killer with darkglass pedals. I like their vintage series(especially since I own the vmt) and I was thinking of getting either the alpha omnicron or the microtubes x sometime soon to go with my vmt. anywho, once again, their both good basses. it's kinda tough to choose which one I consider the best. all I can say is that they're both excellent for metal.

I do play a Warwick Thumb Bo 5 2010 full black special edition, one of the best bass I have ever played, with an awesome tone BUT, also one of the most uncomfortable bass ever, there is a noticeable neck stretch(due to the position, the first fret is like 2-3 frets to the left for the hand compared to a jazz bass) and the neck dive, it always wants to go vertically.

  • @TheOldmandaddio

I like both Basses, the Spector seems to have more fret buzz than the Warwick, also from what ive seen of the Warwicks they don't have fret markers on the neck which would be a nice option for me personally, I do love that Spector sound & looks though same for Warwicks, horses for courses I suppose. With Darkglass being involved with the Spector just out of interest what's anyone's opinion on the Dingwalls? Great vidio very informative 🤙🤘🤙

In the intro, the Spector and the Warwick both have a good sound in the 4th string, but the Warwick sounded a lot less clear. than the Spector on the 3rd string. The difference in the sound between the Warwick 4th and 3rd string are substantial. The Spector is much clearer.
