That's exactly my main gripe with the tech test. 10 years of balancing just thrown away, demo charges can be hidden in walls, loiters OP as fuck, arty in base, just really stupid decisions that they should have learned from.

i had time for on match against the AI during the test and either the US or the British had an Airstrike ability that would follow my tanks around the whole map. had a Pz IV close to death and once the red flares popped up i instantly retreated it, it almost reached my base when the plane that somehow ignored two Wirbelwinds and a 88 just destroyed it with rockets.

That's the same for ALL plane abilities, they mentioned in the notes that the planes are targeting vehicles far outside of the intended zones. I mean, at least they know ONE problem with the strikes, just 99 more to fix with them, ha!

CoH1 is flawless without any comparisons - probably one of the best technically done complex games ever. CoH2 is flawless compared to this

first things first, they should decrease fire rate of the Ju-87G because realistically that 37mm cannon isn't a machine gun and it only has around 12 rounds, and decrease fire rate of the boys AT rifle, the recoil discourage the shooter to fire at such speed until getting to higher veterancy. also 4:20 nice ww2 javelin

You know it is arcade right? So it needs to be somewhat unrealustic to still be fun. For the javelin... It's not a bug, it's sticky mine. Point click. Same as in other games arrows act like target seaking missiles.

Ha, maybe so, I just remember selecting everything to move backwards but the engies standing still because the selection/movement mechanics are fiddly, then panicking expecting a super fast dive bomb and almost choking laughing at the speed of it.

Take the video with a pinch of salt buddy, I hated it at first but it grew on me. Stay well away from it if you want the game to be balanced and in a good state at launch though, at least until after reviews and impressions start to come in.

I was concerned about that not conveying properly, basically the way the announcer states squads have arrived is in the same tone that they have died, so it always gave me a heart attack and then relief to hear they weren't dead.

When the best CoH game was made 14 years ago but the Company still tries to replicate the success a dozen people did in their basement. I guess the glitches are fun to watch but I don't trust this game to look or feel like a finished product when it releases (in a month )

I don't think a game is tied to one person, new devs can be great if they have pasión and love for the game they are designing, but if you hire MOBA devs that don't like RTS (DOW3) then you can't expect good results

Don't quote me but I think they use unreal for COH, no sure what they use for AoE,. In their recent deep dive videos you can see that the graphics look a lot better for COH3 at least.

I think it's too early to make that claim, COH3 will most definitely be worse on release, that's a certainty but it could be something special if only they would learn from their mistakes in the past (which I'm doubtful of based on the balance of the test (OP skill planes again for example)).

I think the issue here is that AT rifles are good against infantry too as its basically just a bigger bullet, whereas zooks and piats etc are rockets so do splash damage. I could be wrong but that's my theory as to why AT rifle spam is so effective in COH2 and 3 (so far) compared to other AT spam.

It certainly lost the need for vehicles thanks to a lot of design faults. They patched the game recently to tone down AT rifles, did it work? Only time will tell.

I hate how static they look when they stand still and shoot in sync. It's so dull compared to CoH1 especially.

Did they add possibility to change the key bindings?

I honestly thought it was the AT nade that did it as it wasn't until seeing a video about it that I realised it was a thing!

I'm aware this is a joke vid but in literally every CoH game the devs have been unable to properly fathom what to do with anti-tank rifles because their damage modeling is oversimplistic and their opportunity cost is usually too low. They did not prove good alternatives to most anti-tank weapons during the war and in many cases were discarded entirely by troops who preferred to hide than give away their position. They weren't totally useless-as is often claimed-but they weren't very desirable either. They were bulky, heavy, and loud. They required proper ground-anchoring in order not to injure the operator (about the only one that mostly didn't was the Boys Rifle) and were mostly seen by troops as such a dangerous liability Officers usually did nothing to stop the men from "losing" them. The Boys rifle in every circumstance should face a heavy bounce-penalty from literally anything with an armor plate. It's viability should be mainly against light-tank or scout car spam and it should come at the same munition cost as any other anti-tank rocket. To retain late-game viability it can have a button ability that force blinds a tank's-field-of-view and of course-it remains a viable infantry rifle when in cover but suffers a heavy accuracy and rate-of-fire penalty when out of cover.

Joke or not, still a good point for discussion. In a real game, you wont get this many squads out, I used the man power glitch to spam them so fast and dominate the map stupidly early, but you could easily have 3 squads of them in a normal game. The issue with them as an in game weapon is that they are a rifle and treat as such, it fires a bullet and not a rocket so (I imagine) it does more damage to infantry than a rocket would, making them too useful in infantry engagements, without gimping the squad like PIAT's would... Speaking of, did they remove PIAT's from the game? I don't remember seeing them. I know very little about AT rifles in real life so I can't comment on their effectiveness, but in game provided that the button ability costs munitions and then pen chance is pretty low but still tickles I think would help with the balance, and defiantly only allow them to fire the boys when stationary.

@@SimplyInept In cover there shouldn't be much issue with an anti-tank rifle playing normal rifle. The assumption made by most video games is often that since the Boys fires a large round (.55 caliber) it should get a damage buff. But why? This is a poor abstraction and a bad understanding of ballistics. The practical effects of a bullet on the human body by either a .55 caliber round or a .30 caliber round will be the same. A .55 round is far more likely to have fatal effects than a .30 but either way-you're down and out of play. Thus there should be really no reason why some bullets in any game just receive arbitrary damage bonuses over others. All other variables are perfectly reasonable-especially the superior penetration capability of a half inch round over infantry ball-type .30 caliber rounds. But things like the Barrett and anti-tank rifles have always been a huge headache for developers in every game to balance from Battlefield to Company of Heroes-because they're abstracted poorly.

Im just going to wait for Wikinger to come into the game once they allow mod support.

I want to like this But I did the test also Flamers barely seem to work MG's have laughable supression Which allows the enemy to just wade through any conventional defense So basically spam your best infantry, ignore any sort of general defense save very slim attempts and shoot for whatever well armored big gunned tank you can but keep them on a tight leash

@DraconX3 Imagine that a enemy standard line infantey unit is able to kill a MG squad, which is stationed in a building. If I told you that, you would say it is a joke, but that is something what has happened to me in the tech test. The brithish rifle unit did not get surpressed behind a wall and proceeded to kill of my MG crew with their rifles without loosing a single trooper themself.

They've actually changed the shaders and lighting since this build and everything I've seen makes it look a lot better, but I'm still sceptical
