Community Voices: Mike DeCoursey

Mike DeCoursey lives with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS), after being diagnosed 5 years ago at 37 years old. He suffered a dissection event in 2021 and his knowledge of this condition, and preparation for such an event, helped to save his life. He talks about adapting to life after this event and recovering after life-saving surgery.
Mike shared his story for Community Voices as part of the EDS ECHO Summit Series: Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This two-day event was focused on vascular EDS, and covered:
- Genetic and molecular biology of vED
- Interpreting genetic testing
- Psychosocial issues in patients living with vEDS
- Exercise with vEDS

Sending prayers to you and your family! I have RDS but mine is the Classical subtype and it shares the same genetic mutation as Osteogenesis which is what my mother had and my sister has as well as many other people in my family. Praise the Lord you was able to pull a McGyver and stop that bomb by defusing it.
