Community College vs. University | What's the difference ? + Tips to transfer!

Ойын-сауық

In this video I talk about my transition from community college to a university! For a little bit of background, I attended community college for my first 2 years, now I am a junior and this is my first semester at my state school. I also share tips I've learned to help make the transition easier, for those who are on the same path!

If you’re in high school and want to go to community don’t think that you don’t need to try as hard in your classes. Still try to get good grades and do ap classes. Your grades still matter. Edit: also if you can take college courses in high school try it. It’s actually better than taking ap classes. I wish I did that. It’s cheaper and you could finish cc in less than two years. Double savings and saves time.

Yeah its good for prosepctive community college students to understand the work load and material is still going to challenge you. However I guess it may also depend on their major. Nonetheless they should try just as hard to get the best grades possible!

Community College is more affordable and easier. But not always. It depends on which community college you go to, which university you transfer to, and the major you are doing. But for me, I started out at a community college and almost my whole degree does not transfer and I had to retake them at my university. And the courses are harder. And for a fact, that happens to a lot of other people I know who transfer as well from other community colleges. This is something to really think about. Because I had to spend more than two years at my university.

Your amazing for sharing your process in transferring from a community college to a university because not everyone has the best high school advisor that guides a student to pick a community college program that automatically will allow a student to be accepted from a two year college to a four year. That was very smart to use a credit calculator in doing research prior to choosing an academic program with the best curriculum that promotes successful higher learning with a minimum 45 undergraduate credits that all transferred to the University of Maryland. You also mentioned that being at a university vs. community college was more intense. Please take advantage of professor's office hours & you will do great. Blessings👑 Zach🤴🏽🙌🏽 & Ashley👸🏾🙌🏾.

@@cloroxbleach6039 hell yes going to cc is worth it. U can always transfer to a university later. All im good at is school so i made mostly A’s. However that wasnt enough to help me afford to go to a big university. I didn’t wanna go in debt for some classes i could take anywhere, so i went to a cc. I wouldve been paying $20,000 a year to go to my desired university. Now im only paying $600 a year for cc. At my college u can go there tuition free if u have a 20+ on the act. Depending on what u wanna do, u might not even need to transfer to a cc. Another good thing about community colleges is they r smaller, that means smaller classes. Its basically like high school so if u need help u can just talk to the professor & they’ll actually know your name bc your in a class of 20 lol. Unlike the big universities where theirs 50+ ppl in 1 class. I also commute from my house to 1 of my community colleges satellite campuses so that also cut down the cost. While i might not get the big college experience it is definitely worth it. And u can still become just as successful. Most ppl say college is a scam & it is a lil more expensive than it should be but its really all about how u play your cards.

For me, the trade of is social events. Most community colleges don’t have dorms so u don’t live there. Whereas in university, you HAVE to live there for first two years. That’s their policy for safety or so they say lol. So u get a roommate, obviously parties, sports games, other stuff like that. Community college also has a larger age demographic so it’s not like the majority of ppl are your age. There will be a lot of ppl 30+ so it’s a different environment. A lot more serious. People commute from home, go to class, then leave. Like my mom and all the adults I know talk about college and all the friends and memories they made and it sounds so fun. But I wanna save money too so it’s hard

I would take around 5. Most classes have 3 credits each so 15 credits per semester. I did need a few extra courses with 2 credits that I took during the summer semester. My first CC semester I did 6 classes & only had 1-B and 5-A’s and 4 classes the next to give myself a break. From then on out I did 5 classes a semester plus those summer classes. I chose to be a full time student the whole time just to get through it quicker. I’m currently a Junior at University right now August,2021-May 2023 having acquired my associates degree from CC May 17, 2021. Focus on getting good grades. I do not have to pay for my bachelors and half of my masters due to getting no grades below a few B’s in CC. Edit: I had 64 credits that transferred over to certain Universities that followed my CC curriculum. Make sure you tell your advisor you plan on transferring so they may set you up a schedule that’ll transfer smoothly.
