I always say things like this when I'm comparing Dilla to Kanye. Dilla was the producer's producer. If you had a decent knowledge about making music, you appreciated the natural talent that Dilla had for crafting his beats in such a unique, yet soulful way. Kanye, on the other hand, is a music lover's producer. He's really good at making beats that just sound very good to the ear--hence all of the popularity. You don't necessarily have to know what it takes to create music to love Kanye, you just have to love music that sounds good. They just have different styles.

Common is the definition of a stand-up dude...he's always been the same guy and a staple of what a real hip-hop artist should be.

"he knew all these jazz artists and music but then throws on a chain and goes to the strip club" I love that, too many people get into the "I like this therefore i have to act like this and only like this" screw that like what ever you no matter what type of people like that too and no matter how they act. Like it to please yourself

So many of his peers lost perspective and creativity. I miss albums like Black on Both Sides, Phrenology, Reflection Eternal, and Like Water For Chocolate. There's very little in the way of consciousness from current rap and hip hop acts.

That Thelonius joint.... Common made his best music with Dilla & Preem (Like Water, Be) and NO ID (Resurrection). Ye's beats were always too poppy for my tastes. "Go" and "The Food" (the Chappelle version) are the only Ye and Com collabs I like.

mistahmst the grimiest beat ye gave Common is "The Game." The Corner... nah. Kicks and snares seems soft. Something about that track doesn't thump

tochiRTA The Game was great. I disagree about The Corner though. That was one of the more hard-hitting Kanye tracks. Drums have always been his Achilles heel, but on this song I thought it was just right and fit the sample and overall mood of the song.
