Common remembers J Dilla, calls him greatest producer ever

Common shares his memories of James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla aka Jay Dee. Common tells Nick Huff of Hard Knock TV that J Dilla is his, Pharrells, Kanyes and Questloves favorite producer. Common also talks about how Dilla and himself worked on Like Water For Chocolate almost 10 years ago and how he thinks Music would be different if Jay Dee was still alive.
"I never seen a producer sit there and have so much revere for music and so much respect for it. I've seen everybody from Pharrell to Kanye, to Questlove ... and I'm like, 'Man, that's my favorite producer.' I think music would be in a different place if he was here. He provided so much inspiration."
"He made sounds that would be anything from the rawest of hip-hop to something like sounds Pink Floyd mixed with some Radiohead, and he would play some of the instruments."
R.I.P James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla aka Jay Dee (February 7, 1974 February 10, 2006)
R.I.P Titus Glover aka Baatin (March 8, 1974July 31, 2009)

@hafaskater i can second that... the first tune i realised late that he was the man behind the music was "got til its gone" - i rinsed that so much when I was younger, and when i found out it was dilla it gave it a whole different meaning and gave me the chills all over again. and then slowly through more research did i realise all the beats i kept playing over and over were always dilla tunes... there's no other way to say it without being cliche, but quite simply the best who ever did it

J Dilla and nujabes were both white coats (white coats meaning they mastered the art of something. in this case, they mastered music producing)

@hafaskater Honestly I dont think a lot of people did. He purposedly let his music speak for itself rather than have his name plastered everywhere. I feel like people dont fully understand how genius he was until they spend the time to get deep into his technique. His beats were nice at first, but then you get into his music deeper, especilally from a producer standpoint, then you're like, "Whoa. Genius at work." RIP Dilla

I love MF Doom ever since KMD and their affiliation with 3rd Base back in the late 80's early 90's. A top tier producer, for sure. But Doom will always be known more for his his heavyweight rhyme writing. Madvillainy is his biggest album, mainly because of Madlib's production. 100% beats, 100% rhymes. though I will admit "One Beer" is a better beat than "No Games"
