I'm Malaysian, watching a lot of US drama & movies. However I like British English the most. Idk why but to me, British English sounds beautiful.

"Shattered" is a UK phrase that comes to mind. It means very tired.

Isabel Grace I'm from Yorkshire and we sound OK. However if you have a Leeds or Bradford accent (like you sound to be unsure about what you're saying), you would sound like a drip.

I've recently seen your videos. You explain the expressions in a superb way. Thanks a lot for doing them. I am going to follow you.

Essentially, alright means “hey, how are you” and they just cut to the chase. Summing it up straightaway. Less talking, love it.

I was living in England for 6 months, where I learnt my English, and I use a lot the expression “I’m knackered”, and of course, British words and British pronunciation, and when I moved to Dubai they didn’t understand that expression 😅 or other words. And now after another 3 months between different accents, I get confused sometimes, mixing british, american, and another kind of english words in the same sentence 😅

OMG. We're really similar. I live in Egypt so my first language is Arabic. I learned English and I love talking the most in British because I really love it and my Idols are British but listening to music that have a random accent in it makes my tongue heavier.

You're not alone here. It's very confusing to learn British and listen to American songs at the same time. Sometimes I just forget and mix British & American words together. But I think I have time to fix it, because I've not been abroad yet and I've not met anyone from England yet who might notice that 😁

The first one confused me for such a long time when I first started working in UK. My seniors use it in the office and I used to think they were asking for a progress report.

As someone who has lived in the UK (England) and the USA, this is quite informative to those who may not be familiar with the vernacular of the country. Unlike other commenters, I agree that these are used quite often by both people with whom you are familiar and those that you aren't. For example, asking someone "you alright" is quite common. It's a way of saying "Hi, how are you." This is a brilliant channel for those who want to learn about common greetings and phrases in the UK. As for me, I'm quite knackered and am going to rest... ;)

I've always loved the brit accent...I really need this,spendin holidays in the UK soon...cheers!

My dear friend, avoid using abbreviations. I've learned from a mate, who's a native English speaker. Not something to worry about, but that's an informal gap, and may disturb your writing and general communication in English. :)

Trying to sound like a native is a mistake, it often sounds silly. Using "mate" for example like you just did is not natural, you often sound silly if you try and use slang unless you're incredibly fluent.

Try not to sound like British person because inevitably it sounds fake, but speaking English well, with your natural accent, is classy and sexy.
