Commercial Trawler as an AFFORDABLE Liveaboard Cruiser? [Full Tour] Learning the Lines

This is a Custom, Nova Scotia built commercial-style trawler meant to be used as a coastal cruiser. The builder, Deschamp and Jackson (now out of business due to owner age/health) based out of Lunenburg, typically built commercial vessels, and this boat is in a similar style to those fishing boats.

I love these boats. They are very good when the weather turns nasty. They have big rudders and a keel, so they handle well and track straight and true. They are very fuel efficient. They don't have much air draft, so you can fit under many places But there are some things that makes the skipper (and especially not the skipper's wife) the only one who appreciates them. They are more like camping on the water than modern pleasure boating. They are slow. Examples like this with dry stack exhaust are pretty loud. They are work boats, so the space on board is usually reserved for deckwork and cargo. The heads and gallies are an afterthought. Bunks are minimal, if there at all. I've never seen one wih air conditioning, I think the grates you saw were for a cabin heater from the heat exchanger on the engine, But for the simple joy of running a boat at sea, they are awsome.

I have a similar style vessel about the same size too. Always looking for another conversion trawler to sail west into lake Ontario from the East Coast. This one is tastefully done with work boat vibes. A shipwright carpenter could finish that up nicely. Details count when it comes to conversions. Personally, I'd take the head out from the v-berth area. Open the v-berth up. Extend tha cabin aft and closer to the lazarette. More space for a head and storage. You can then move the fridge over to the galley kitchen and have a nice setee on the portside that breaks down for a bed. Just my 2 cents

This type of repurposed workboat/ yacht is very common here in Maine, when things get wet and sloppy simplicity it king. So nice to steer under glass. The only downside, in my limited experience, is engine noise. After several hours the sound of the machinery will cause a type of stupidity to settle in wherein the only relief is the sound of the anchor splashing. The 32 footer we had was efficient, fuel cost was incidental.

It would make a great solo live aboard boat with the option to bring a woman or a couple of buddies for a weekend Bahama Beer run! Only thing someone should change is the mini fridge. Replace it with an apartment fridge with separate freezer and add a microwave and a kegerator and you're good to go!

Compared to the 1989 ROSBOROUGH also on brokers site this is rather more unloved. It also looks to have a lot of homedepot type fittings and fixtures inside. I know they say 'john Deere' engine but it looks a lot like a 'Ford Lehman' to me ( good engines that John Deere probably used in their tractor). Build looks very much owner built. Cheers Warren

Weekend warrior boat. But not a sailboat. If you want to shoot power boats and trawlers, consider starting a separate channel for that and keep the sailboat tours focused on sailing vessels. Just my opinion on the subject.

Pretty nice boat... but it's a shame you don't know more about the boat. How wide it is and some more. Which engine with engine data. Fuel tanks? How big? Water tank? Without seeing how big the space is under the stern canopy, you can't say anything about rebuilding it. Better that you get more information yourself before posting it online.
