I greatly appreciate you sharing your experience with these tools! Viewers can SEE from the wear on these tools and the bag that you actually USE them. Since this video is not sponsored or biased toward any single brand, that lends credence to your opinions. It's also clear that your narration is un-scripted. When we hear normal guys speaking normally, it makes their words much easier to trust. The background environment is a normal messy shop, not an idealized "neat" environment of commercial videos. There is no music to help maintain interest or sway emotional response. There is no editing. Close-up views are simply made by showing the tool closer to the stationary camera. This is a stark contrast to the energetic "salesmen" and phony trades-people we see in branded or sponsored videos. Your choices are also practical, unlike the "pretty boys" with nice clothes and clean tools in clean shops with good lighting. You make clear choices for expensive tools when they are crucial, yet include some of the cheap tools that are generally OK for most work. This is one of the BEST videos of its type I have seen so far. So, THANK YOU!

Really interesting to see what a commercial electricians toolbag looks like across the pond. I used to be one here in Scotland and most of the tools are similar. Only tools you didn't have that I used the hell out of were a step drill, knipex VDE pliers, fluke non contact tester and hollow pass nut drivers.

Gotta ditch those channelocks and craftsman evolve groove pliers and get Knipex cobras or alligators. You will not be disappointed and won't have a problem giving the old ones away. I carry the 10" auto adjust Knipex, and the 7" alligators. I have several others just to have some in my truck and at home. I chose the alligators to carry because sometimes the button gets in the way and the alligators open up further. The auto adjusting ones are amazing and only come in 10" I own 2 of those. Btw- you gotta try Knipex! Lol. Love the videos man

The difference between an apprentice and spoiled journeymen is apprentices pay for all their tools including power tools and small non-mentioned expected material such as phasing tape, and journeymen get power tools and such provided to them by their company as if after they get their J card they feel obligated to have their tools and such given to them or they will not deal with a company otherwise. But I guess after 4 or 5 years you've "earned" those perks.

Nope, west coast non affiliated (non union) you buy your hand, cordless tools plus the stuff you like to keep control of, KO set, tracers and the like. Now most shops will replace cutting tools (give one to get one) and supply power tools but lets face it you will end up with your own stuff eventually, hammer drill, hole hawg, porta band etc....It's easier to roll up on a job and have exactly what you need as opposed to hoping the shet works from the shop or was even requested. .

As long as you use oil and know how to drill stainless there’s no reason you can’t use a normal hole saw for more than one hole. Saying that, I’ve dulled more bits then I’d like learning how to.

+Joshua Cree even with oil and low rpm, I was getting 3 holes from a regular bit. No matter how careful you are. The stainless is harder than the teeth on your bit. The carbide is absolutely necessary if you need to drill more than 10 holes. I needed to drill like 200.

A tiny part of me has always wanted a good quality one and because of this comment I'm going to order one right now, a quality, metal one. Any suggestions in brands?

  • @siriusgray3579

Definitely get a metal one. Even basic cheap ones are ok like these one www.uni-max.co.uk/metal-reinforced-metal-snap-off-knife-18-mm/d don't get any with screw locking kinda thing like this www.uni-max.co.uk/metal-reinforced-snap-off-knife-with-knob/d that thing is never secure and falls off and you don't really need that much of adjustment ^__^ 18mm blade ones are nice medium size and strong enough not to break like smaller sized 9mm ones. Irwin blades are really good not to brittle and not soft like many cheap ones that bent even when you try to snap them :P P.S. I'm Electrician myself. From Poland ^__^ we have a joke about what kind of tools an electrician needs. All of them :P

No 9/16 nut driver?! I'm shocked?! We use ALOT of 3/8 hardware and that's all 9/16 size heads and bolts! Also, I find mini-pump pliers or channel locks are FUCKING AMAZING - I end up using them everyday! like a 6" or 7" pair...The Milwaukee or Channellock brand ones are great! Good bag you got going there dude! A fellow brother!

Ok, Hole saw tip of the year. Make a paste with water and baking soda and use your normal hole saws for cutting stainless the grit will help cut and the water will help cool. I have had heated words with foreman who will buy $100 worth of hole saws before buying $3 box of baking soda.

Least he has some nice Wera Screw drivers. And them Greenlee 600 Carbide Hole saw will cut Stainless Steel cabinets like butter. As I do lots of Motor controls and PLC system builds. You can also use double wall. Adhesive heat shrink to make any tool insulated. It's cheap insurance. I put that shit on the ends on my Channel locks. As the insulation can get damaged in the ends.

Just Donovan I'd say 95% of the companies, you need to be 18. Only for the fact it's illegal for a minor to operate power tools. It's a good trade. Just don't get stuck wiring houses forever, you can go way farther than that and make a lot more money. Doing homes is a perfect place to start. Learn the basics and speed before getting into motors, controls and 3 phase systems

But a bare driver still has its uses, like removing knockouts in enclosures. @Dan : Pretty much all trouble shooting is done on live conductors. Only electricians who work with mostly dead equip is installers.
