But is the deco chamber really necessary for 34 meters or were you actually much deeper than that?

We use US navy diving tables. Not only are they very safe, some might say conservative, but common practice in the industry is to go to the next table for the actual depth. A good company will always follow these norms and is the reason you have relatively few cases of DCI in offshore commercial divers compared to SCUBA divers
